alike motor riders, cyclists who cycle for passion are willing to spend on their machines....who doesnt want the best piece of equipment and gear on them...as an avid cyclist, although i still believe in technology gears, i still think that its the cyclist that matters..expensive gears and lightweight body frames aren't worth the buy if the human engine cant produce and sufficient long lasting energy and stamina...just like motorbikes where a superbike with zero skilled riders are just plain commuters....

anyways TS, if you have yet to decide on a MTB discipline, try getting a GT Avalanche 1.0 first, and slowly upgrade from there. Its a good starter bike. :)

Its one of those exclusive bikes after all...

 

Ellsworth is one of them exclusives too... but i personally find their price tags a little TOO exclusive.

 

I suppose you perfer DJ rather than XC huh?

 

Before NS i liked going XC at bukit timah. At times i get so lazy i just whack with road tires, pushing up my bike each and every slope if inertia didnt permit me to just glide up. :p

 

After i got into my unit my bike turned into a sort of road/mtb hybrid, to tranport me to and fro my camp. Cycling from taman jurong to pioneer sector 2 every day really helped. the smoke and whatnots didnt.

 

Ever since i got my motorcycle ive been really slacking off. really want to hit the trail again sometime soon though. And i dont feel like changing my current bike format.

 

TS, a nice community for you to look around in might be http://www.togoparts.com though you might find some of them a little eletist for those who got sub 1k bikes.

Well... not DJ specifically .. more to BSX n street ... but slackened alot now ... real2 alot ... now 3 of my 5 bikes r ups for sale .... or maybe 4 out of my 5 are up for sale ...

I ride offroad, a little only. More of road biking :D

Reviving an old thread?

 

I just went Pulau Ubin first time on Friday with my friends. First time cycling in a long time and went to trails already. Was really fun, but tough, leg cramp and stuff, still managed to get through some blue squares and one black diamond. A lot pushing instead of riding =S. Was digging to see if anyone else did MTB :D Don't know if I can commit to that but gonna try to go another time before I go to the neighbouring island in few months time.

 

Any tips from the more experienced?

My ass has been hurting literally, after the ride. The two bones directly under, I think I never really stand when I go over the bumps end up the seat hit my ass. :B

$10 rental bike from Ubin good enough right? I think it only has front suspension but seemed to work not bad, though the chain fell out of the gear and had to put it back onto the sprocket... No idea why too.

just some tips from newbie , actually u can use bicycle pants as it has a padding gel for protecting the bones and to make it more comfortable. enjoy !

The tights keeps the balls out of the way. Then you start investing in a jar of vaseline. Then you start shaving off your leg hair. And so forth.

 

My 2c, before the tights, please get a helmet. Them helmets are affordable nowadays.

True, I'll try but I guess I'll rent anyways, not gonna commit yet, going army soon. Just recreational :D haha

my last mtb cost me like 6k. used to ride wif togoparts.

 

I always tell my friends who own expensive MTB that my motorbike costs less than half their bicycles but can go at least 10 times faster. :angel:

i know. i had an ex colleague who sold his motorbike for only 150? sigh its like an obsession wif mtb.
