Since you paid and signed....

Ride it like you stole it!!!

Well, have fun riding a Version R. Fuel consumption is the best for Super 4. Be prepared to spend some money for certain replacement of wear and tear parts as the bike shop or previous owner might not have done it.

Hi Brothers,

1. I'm new to this forum. Hope to get my Class 2A licence soon. I have a few questions hoping those experienced brothers in this forum can help me with my decision:

a. Can any brothers here recommend a few reliable motor tiams for good deals on new Super 4, or should I go to Boon Siew directly?

b. Are there any Parallel Import's Super 4? Which is better, from the agent or PI models?

c. What's the difference between Spec 3 and Version S?

2. Actually, I've been considering between the Super 4 and GSR400, but I think I'll go for the Super 4, for reliability, good resale value (in case I want to upgrade to Class 2 next year) and easy spare parts availability. However, I must admit that the GSR400 is more modernistic in appearance.

3. Thanks for any good replies. Have a good weekend ahead.

Sorry, but I think you misunderstood me. I want to buy a new bike, not second-hand one. :thumb:

if you intend to upgrade, our suggestion is not to buy either spec3 or gsr4 which will be a total waste of your $$$

you spend $14,000 buy a new one, then after one year, sell it for $9,000, WTF rite?

got $$$ to burn also not like that mah, can do some charity, donate to SBF or to us :cheeky:

there is no new verS anyway.

Looi's, Mah Pte Ltd, maybe ASP.... try to go for the big names and you should be quite safe. But if you walk into the shop wearing carrot suit, no one can help you also... =P

b. Are there any Parallel Import's Super 4? Which is better, from the agent or PI models?

I personally think that whether PI or Agent, its the same. Its a super 4 and its a honda. How bad can it be?

c. What's the difference between Spec 3 and Version S?

Vtec and Non-Vtec. Newer and Older.

If you wanna upgrade, don't buy first hand. Will lugi alot of money. might as well save the money for your class 2 (based on personal experience). But then again, if you print money one, that's a different story... :cheeky:

Hi brothers,

No lah, not print money lah. Just say say only. Most probably I'll hold on to the S4 for a few years, unless it's giving problems. I usually don't change bike so often. My present SUZUKI RG150 had been riding since 1996 with extended COE until 2013. Prior to that, I bought a HONDA CM125 and regretted it fully, because of no power. I used it for only 6 months before giving up and changed to the RG150. Still, 4-strokes for small bikes cannot lah. If not for the lack of Class 2B (sports) models nowadays, I would still remain as Class 2B now. 4-stroke Class 2B models like the TA 200 and CBR150 are all no power lah. Aprilla I won't buy because European makes are definitely more leh cheh and more costly in maintenance.

Buying a second-hand bike is quite a risk because you never know how's the condition, even with a short test ride. Last time when I bought a SUBARU VICKI (6 years old), the engine was good, but after a few months, I get problems with under-carriage: loose steering, bad ball joints, faulty fuel pump, etc. All these repairs cost me thousand over $.

Anyway, thanks for the recommendation. Will check out those motor diams mentioned soon. Hmm...... since COEs are on the rise, I wonder if I can pre-register a bike first without having the Class 2A yet? Will check out with the shops when I go visit them. By the way, how about Unique Motorsports? Seems that this shop has very good reviews on their service package in this forum.

That's exactly what I think so, brother.

Yesterday, went to Looi and that Mr Lee quoted me S$12.2k for the S4 Spec 3 and S$13.5k for the GSR4 (all OTR prices).

He kept promoting the GSR4, saying better FC, aluminium alloy frame, monoshock, EFI, more advanced technology, because the S4 is already a 4 to 5 years old technology/design.

sh*t, now I'm in a dilemma again to decide which: GSR4 or S4?

Later, went over to Unique Motorsports. There, they told me that the reviews for the GSR4 are not as good as they originally claimed to be. One big setback is the underseat exhaust, which they claim will cause discomfort for the pillion rider. Logically, I seem to agree on this.

Anyway, I still think most likely I'll settle for the S4 over the GSR4. Although slightly older in design, but with better practicalities, in terms of maintenance (carburettor versus EFI), better resale value, availability of spare parts and most important of all, no complaints from my wife (from the excessive exhaust heat), who will ride as pillion most of the time.

I am enjoying my brand new Spec III and I have not made the wrong choice.

I wanted to take GSR but it was so big and ugly headlight.

Only problem I find is that you must not be too tall else long ride can leg cramp  I am 1.8m tall and I found it is a bit low, wish it could be made a bit higher

Yea, tried sitting on both the GSR4 and S4 at Looi. I find the S4 is more suitable for me in height because I'm only about 1.78m. The GSR4 is a little slightly higher for me. By the way, x9hopeful, mind saying which motordiam did you buy your S4 from and for how much?

the underseat exhaust for GSR4 will not cause discomfort to pillion... i got no complains from my pillion when taking the ride. the exhaust at the side is not burning hot. its just warm... n it will not burn ur pillion's backside.

the only concern is spare parts availability. cos its relative new in the market therefore parts is not available anywhere. unlike S4, parts is available everywhere n oso easily stolen.

both got their pros n cons...

S4 is reliable but no latest technology. parts available everywhere but oso will go for a walk anytime.

GSR got the latest ttechnology but reliability, too soon to tell. parts not easily available thus u can rest assure parts wun go for a walk so easily... if u got queries on GSR, do visit the thread n ask. all will b happy to tell u wat u asked...

lastly, which one u like n choose wisely...

X9hopeful,

Mind if I ask what extra accessories you got for your purchase?

skateboy,

Thanks for your update. My wife is very "cat" (neow) person and she will complain at the slightest discomfort, even if it's a little warm. You know when we ride on the road during daytime, she will always put on the arm sleeves. Otherwise, she complains about sunburn. I told her it's only a 30-minute ride, what sunburn? Sigh.....

Another of my worry is as what you said: spare parts for the GSR4. Guan Hoe does not bring in the 400cc model, but only the 600cc model. So, in terms of engine parts (eg: gasket, piston rings, seals, etc) and its peripherals (eg: clutch plates, gear transmission, etc), I'm quite concern, although most of the other accessories (eg: lights, mirrors, covers, etc) may be compatible with the 600cc model. Just like my present SUZUKI RG150. It's difficult to get spare parts for this model since the first day.

Won't really say accessories but on top of usual freebies, I also got 46L givi box and the belly pan ...which I told him I want as I saw it on a second hand bike:smile:
