just my thought...

speed limits... especially on the normal roads. almost all areas have speed limits of 50 or 60 kmh or even less.

but everybody practically do not drive with that speed.

on expressways although 90 seems to be abit slow, it is still reasonable for safety and difficuity to control, so dun want to say a thing.

maybe 30 or 50 so years ago, the roads were nerrower, with holes, and people corssing anywhere, and the vehicles are not that advanced. that might be a danger if they drive more than that speed.

since now all the things changed, with wider roads, better curbs and traffic lights, overhead crossings, good road surfaces, and obviously vehicles have been much advanced in control and braking, these speed limits are not realistic anymore.

shouldn't authorities revise the rules to match with the changing of generations, convenience and being practicle. even the traffic police, LTA, and other authorities do drive more than 50/60 kmh on lots of good straight wide roads.

Hi.

I've posted my opinions on another post, anyway just to repaet my proposal:-

1) normal rd = 70kph unless otherwise stated,

2) ex way, left most lane = 70 kph, middle lane = 90kph and rightmost lane = 110kph, except at very curvy portion,

3) goods veh speed limit, light goods vehicle = 70kph, heavy goods vehicle = 60kph, very heavy goods vehicle = 50kph.

But most important of all, this is the max speed, do not ride/drive at these speeds if u do not have the confidence to do so or thk it is unsafe to do so.

People ask me, "Why ride bike?" I ask them back :"Why drive car?"

Posted

i believe on a 3 lane normal road, 70km/h is fine..

but on a 2 lane or a single lane road, 70km/h may be a little too fast..

i foresee a problem. any speed that requires confidence and skill cannot be set as the limit, because the limits exist to prevent ppl wif no confidence/skill from trying ti hit such speeds in the first place.

so at what skill level are we to draw the line? ppl who go PG and such sure got more skill sure can hit higher speeds; so we set it at theirs?

we have to draw the line at the skill level that applies to 99% of the traffic population. that 1% are the freaks who no skill but still somehow pass....... no comments.....

but anyway ah i think the speeds u suggest i think ok, except that i dont wanna agree to a limit of 110 on e-way even if its right most. our e-ways arent exactly autobahns or NS highways.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

the worst is in the middle of the night especially at 3 am imagine u riding on ecp whole long stretch u the onli car or bike moving at 90 or even 100 is way way too slow.... juz wat i think...

Posted

its always 'slow' until something bad happens. then everybody says too fast. especially the fella hit by the 110kmh vehicle.

i think travelling 100kmh true speed on clear e-way is quite alright. i wouldn call it 'too slow' because like i said, once u hit 100kmh it only feels 'slow' as long as u haven crash.......

we have to consider wat happens when if they raise e-way limit to 110, then ppl will adopt this speed no matter the condition. would setting the limit on e-way to 110kmh be good for daytime traffic conditions, especially for us invisible bikers? would 110 kmh be good for night speeds; would there be enuff time to siam fallen branches and stuff with less light?

see, we all wanna go 110. but we haven imagine how the experience on the road for us when everybody goes at 110.

oh btw, i think the idea of increasing limit by say 10kmh at night, and only night, on e-way and other suitable roads is good idea, i brought it up donno which thread.

eh... u increase the speed to 70km/h, those BUEY STEADY DRIVERS all scared scared, they dare to drive at 50 on normal road.. and 80km/h on expressway onli... den they see so many cars zoom past them...

Imagine they are FORCED to keep at 70km/h n 100km/h at expressway... they will see alot of car and bike zoom past them leh...

if they change the law to 110 for expressway.. will u stay at 110?? i wun... but i do hope they increaes the speed limit too...

we must think for the lousier riders or drivers also mah... everybody got different skill levels mah... rite?

I think 60 for normal roads, 75 for major wide roads (like West Coast HW or Pasir Panjang viaduct) and 100 for expressways is fine. That is the standard used by Hong Kong (with even higher traffic volume than Singapore) for more than a decade now.

even at the current speed limits, accidents are still around, think they should educate the mass first before upping the speed limit.

Nothing to lose.

90KM/H Limit

"Aiya exceed only 10KM/H ma" --> 100KM/H

110KM/H Limit

"Aiya exceed only 10KM/H ma" --> 120KM/H

u see the case? there must be room for this kind of thing.

the road system is not biased against anyone. live in here, obey the rules here. so far, i think the road users are still not mature enough to observe the safe distance and other misc rules that may cause accident, now, at 90km/hr, people are dying everywhere on the road, if its at 100, wouldn't the fatalities increase? (PS: if got one stretch road of road like Germany, no speed limit, best) LOL!

Nothing to lose.

Realistic = (highest top speed of offender - Legal Speed)/2 + Legal Speed

therefore, as many ppl like to go 90km/h on a 60km/h road,

Realistic Speed Limit = (90-60)/2 + 60 = 75km/h.

however, if those tiong chia kena caught 150km/h on the expressway,

Realistic Speed Limit = (150-90)/2 + 90 = 120km/h

:D

aint tt bad right?

my proposed is to have

LESS TRAFFIC LIGHTS( no point having speed increase if there is traffic light every 100 m or 200 m from each lights) more left turn on red....

Better traffic light sensor and shorter timing..

Cameras at all junction to assist in accident.

Speed camera to be place at prone areas speeding is expected..

100km/h for all expressway cept CTE from AMK to Orchard exit.

Normal Roads 3 lanes 70km/h

Normal road 2 lanes near residential or school areas to remain at 50km/h

Heavy vehicle for class 3,4,5 to remain at 70km/h

Bikes have no SPEED LIMIT best...hahahah

110km/h is abit too much for me coz m bike have a hard time to hit 110km/h hahahaha

since the speed increase the DIPS should also be increase

exceed by 10km/h should be 6 pts $200

exceed by 20km/h should be 8 pts $300

exceed by 30km/h should be 12 pts $700

exceed by 40km/h should be 14 pts $1000

exceed by 50km/h should be 20 pts Court case Suspension min 3 mths

exceed by 60km/h should be 24 pts Court case plus Suspension Or revoked

Careless Driving should be 12 pts $500/Suspension min 1 mth

Inconsiderate Driving should be 18pts Court Case/Suspension min 6ths

Dangerous Driving should be 24pts Court Case/Suspension min 1yr

Failing to confront to Red light signal should be 18 pts $400

Handphone Driving should be 18pts $1000/ Suspension min 3 mths

Drink Driving should be 24pts $2000/Suspension min 3mths/ Jail

once points get accumalated will only be erased after 2 yrs of the maturity of the first offence. if 2nd offence accumalated during the first yr it will be strecth to the new offence date.

To pass TP TEST for cars and bikes.

Should be not more than 16pts 2B and 3,3A or 12 for class 2A and 2 demerit point in order to pass

What you think of my idea??

110km/h is abit too fast for our SMALL and heavily congested expressway. Northsouth Expressway in malaysia should be increase to 120km/h

I read an article that proved (With real life implementation) that uncontrolled junctions are safer than controlled ones.

Because you don't know whether its "safe" to cross or not, you'll be more alert. Traffic lights give a false sense of security, and long waiting times just encourage trafficlight drag races.

i cant agree more on the traffic light false sense of judgement. let say ur waitin to right turn at a traffic light junction, green-amber-red and right turn arrow come out, there are always people who try to beat red light at the opposite junction and if ur not alert, things can happen :giddy: ... i saw 2 vans beating red light in front of me even though the red light came up... another case is when right arrow flickering and u stil c cars dashing for it... maybe they should implement timing system? more ready to stop?

Speed Limit???????

I THINK FOR ANYONE WHEN THEY ARE SPEEDING THAT IS THEIR SPEED LIMIT!

Since everyone always confident to test top speed...

It's on the rider/driver mentality. Road speed limit are just law to follow.

Nah I try to avoid speeding...my limit is very low.

Remember no bike is the fastest, no place is that far and no road is that tough.

Gd one bro, GST go up, we complain. for speed limits right, we let our views being heard then they will review and try. they at least took the effort to increase the speed of those 3 - 4 lanes straight roads from 60km/h to 70km/H.
