if you did see how TPs operate on the road, they usually operate alone. but sometimes you do see 2 of them together on the road, why so?

it will always be the case of a senior TP officer(usually a SSGT or SSSGT) guiding a new TP officer. why do they do that? if you can't answer that question, i think our discussion ends here.

in-service bikes used for training purposes, wow! government is wasting money if that's really the case.

oh, crashing is normal part and parcel of riding. unless you didn't crash before. but the figures of newer TP riders who crashed, are much higher than those old-birds..

if you get to see the way a seasoned TP officer chase down a traffic offender, and compare it to a newbie TP officer, you will either see the traffic offender get away, OR the officer crashed.

it is definately much harder than the riding course at driving centres or even the driving centres' advanced riding courses ..coz some of them dun even noe how to ride a bicycle also :faint: , but generally most of them do :cheeky:

and a few 'extras' training being thrown in as well ... if ur trainer is good enuff (or u pester him till he gives in) to pass his knowledge and is willing to train u ..

even driving center's defensive riding course can't be compared to what they TPs are learning..

Someone mentioned in the other similar thread that the TP have lousy skills. Please, just because they skipped class 2B and 2A does not mean they do not have the skills. Those guys are well trained, much better than what the driving centres teach.

And the long hours they spent on the roads means that their riding experience easily surpassed many of us.

Show the cops some respect please...

BTW, I'm not a cop. I just happen to know some 'undercover' cops who are riders too.

I agree with u.. TP rocks =)

And it is my dream to become a TP one day.. Im half way there aredi.. Anyway.. if there r no rules. .the road will become haywire.. and why i love tp is coz they make sure we follow rules.. In d first place why do ppl wanna break traffic rules?? Is it that fun to risk our lives?

I think you are right. If I'm not mistaken, these beauties are usually employed for VIP escort or something along there.

I wonder why Honda's STX 1300 are not used like in Britain. Both bikes seems similar in handling and cost of maintenance.

Anyone got in inside story?

On the issue of the road competence of our local traffic police, I have no idea. But there was a cheeky article written in Bike! magazine (UK version) some time back. When they pit the riding skills between a track enthusiast, a retired GP racer and a senior traffic police officer.

If I remember correctly, the retired GP racer beat the traffic police just marginally (as compared to the scores from the track goer). My impression from the article is that there appears to be a lot of respect towards the police riding competency over there in UK.

Perhaps it is like they say, "chicks have a soft spot for the uniform" (as the impression that Ladyrider is giving me... ha ha ha!)

In any case I believe that it is some kind of policy to discriminate against...er ahem...I mean only men can qualify to apply for mobile traffic police position.

Police bike riders cannot ride the bikes the moment they get their license. After they get their license, they have to go for Police Driving School license conversion course, which gives them the guidelines of when we are allowed to chase, appropriate procedures and stuff. Even that is not enough for them to go out on the big bikes. After the conversion, they still have to go through a Class 2 Intermediate course for advanced skills. Mind you, even if they have a Class 2 license, they can still be charged with riding without a license if they ride the big bikes without the Class 2I license. I've heard about Class 3I courses, requiring them to reverse slalom at high speed, handbrake turns, etc.. If the intensity of Class 2I is equivalent to that of 3I, it is little wonder that bikes used for training are sent for repairs and that TP riders are skilled.

If the government does not spend money to ensure the quality of our TP riders, we wouldn't have skilled traffic enforcers on the road. Mind you, accident rates are high enough as it is. Without them, God knows what can happen.

It doesn't really matter what bike or any form of machine the TP have...

Abide the LAW... all the love ones will be safe...

They(TP) don't need special vehicles to intimidate us(motorist),they just need to relax one chill corner to SNAP a pic of you....

Our boys in white will received the Class 2 (I) upon completion of the 2 months course. Anything less than that; eg. withdrawn from the course due to injuries or any other reason, will result in the Class 2(I) be held back and yes, you need to have the Class 2 (I) to ride TP bikes.

The key word is "quantify".

Slow down a bit and read my queries again please. Take also the opportunity to go over to the other thread which has been closed and read what you posted there. You said 'lousy TP', and the rest of your posts seemed to point towards your stand that the general(in other words, majority, if not all) population of TPs are lousy. A few can be any number more than one. And no, I do not know every TP.

I've said previously that the damaged bikes you see might have been the result of training damages. I was told that their riding course is much harder than those at driving centres. Maybe my friends were pulling my leg, maybe they are telling the truth, I will not be able to find out unless someone else who has been through the course tell me otherwise.

Hmmm... going back to your reasoning that they are lousy because they did not go through 2B/2A/2, then based on this firmly held logic of yours, all class 2 riders who got their license their normal way (2B/2A/2) should never have crashed.

But why do I still see so many class 2 bikes suffering from crash damages at every motorcycle shop that services class 2 bikes?

I guess we are just going round and round with these questions. So unless you are able to quantify and state your sources, there is no way we can continue this discussion.

If that is the case, then lets agree to disagree.

wow ... akk you also in here....

As someone mentioned before, the bike is probably for the STAR unit.

There are civilian bikes owned by SPF with just your ordinary civilian number plate. Found out about this accidentally when I visited HL when I brought in my bike for servicing. Forgot the number plate & type of bike but one of them is certainly a Yamaha. So beware :p

Not too sure whether STAR unit uses it, but I know Security Command aka SecCom does. They're called Counter-Assault bikes. Btw, most unmarked police vehicles (those that don't have blinkers and the word "Police") have at least two licence plates. One QX (or TP plates for bikes) and one or two normal civilian plates. So, sometimes you can never tell between normal road user and police.
