Mac users form the popular niche of computer users around the world.

Over here however, seems to me most the threads are perpetually Windows related.

Yeah, I know...team up a computer from a major brand (the likes of Dell, Compaq, Acer, etc..) with an informidable operating system known as "Windows" to man, and you've got a computer that pretty much does anything, including running pirated products :D

Mac users like us are humble though. We sit back on our chair, sip some English tea and bask in admiration on the beauty of our sleek hardware, our beautiful Mac OS X operating system, and everything else in between.

So sign in, have a cuppa, and let's discuss how to further enjoy/tweak/troubleshoot it to our liking.

Yes, that's a Microsoft keyboard/mouse combo used with the MacMini. MacMini's slogan is: BYODKM -- Bring (buy) your own display, keyboard, and mouse

What do you have? Intel, or G5 iMac?

Hope it's not constantly sick, as with other Intel iMacs that were released last year.

Gotta try your suggestion for the palmrest discolouration problem. Anyways, a lot of MacBook accessory dealers have an advantage: they sell a lot of palmrest skins catered for this problem

Btw, won't turtle wax scrape the surface of the MacBook?

The new Mac OS X Leopard (version 10.5)

See? Doesn't Windows Vista look so diminutive already?

http://i9.tinypic.com/54ar03s.jpg

The all new interface, with its new suite of programs.

[1] Finder windows now act like iTunes' "Coverflow", letting you "flip" between programs, just like you physically would with your CD collection on your shelf.

[2] New 3-dimensional looking dock

From left (click pix to enlarge):

[1] Network file sharing in a few clicks, between Windows to/from Mac computers.

[2] The sleek new iCal calendar application.

[3] "Spaces" feature brings not 1, but four desktops for you to play around with. It's Linux-style multi-desktop management on OS X Leopard, but only prettier.

Well, at least you're not one of the unlucky masses that kena the faulty logic board and/or fuzzy display issue. Lots of unhappy iMac users held mini riots on the internet and also at Apple Stores worldwide.

For white Macbook user whos hand rest has start to turn to yellowish, get a soft eraser to rub them off. It works magically... and i use turtle wax to wax the exterior casing.. :cheeky:

I'm using a iBook G4 White laptop. I use window cleaner to keep it very white in condition!

By the way, ever since I purchased a Mac 3 years ago, I never look back. Looking at the latest Mac OS X Leopard, ah... I'm drooling man! I think I'm gonna change my system to a MacBook Pro 17"!!! :lovestruck: And... never gonna touch a Windows!

(PS: Of course, at work, I'm still using Windows XP... :faint: no choice)

Biking is something that everyone can learn and enjoy! :goodluck:

Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update - now with 'popping' sounds

News reports

Apple's has released their newest update of OS X Tiger via Software Update that updates the whole of it to version 10.4.10.

However, users have discovered that it appears to cause their Apple computers and notebooks to emit a strange 'popping' sound. Afflicted users who experience pops at various intervals as well as just prior to sounds playing have flocked to Apple's own support forums seeking answers to the annoying issue, which has thus far affected Intel-based Mac minis as well as Intel-based iMacs and Apple's Intel-based laptops. Several users even report problems with older G5 systems, although these reports are far less frequent.

Experienced forum posters surmise that the popping, which is usually noticeable when affected Macs are connected to external speaker systems, could be caused by a behaviour on Macintosh computers that put its sound system to sleep when no sound is emitted. One workaround discovered by forum-goers is to leave iTunes running at minimum volume in the background, thus preventing the Mac from putting its audio to sleep.

heh~ I do design for a living and MAC is an essential to me in my work and interest. But the fact of me being much into gaming.. cause me to have two different system on my desk (MAC AND PC)

MAC i would say wont be much of an entertainment purpose , more of a work purpose, whereby PC gives me more kind of reasonable pricing of entertainment. :) I simply love both..

Hope my stay here could help all of us the MAC users AND PC users n our common troubleshooting problem.. :)

for those who likes the interface and features of MAC OS and cant afford to abandon the workage of PC can try to google around to download "Visual Styles" or Flysokite, objectdock program.

What they do is actually converts windows into a MAC interface. :)

My MacBook Pro giving me problem, always asking me to shut down.

Went back to change the logic board, same thing again!:(

"Asking you to shut down" as in the notebook will suddenly come up with a dialog box with (power off) (restart), etc buttons...?

One of my Mac gurus in my previous job in a Mac store (kudos to him, he rides an R1 and is a Mac "God"...) had diagnosed this problem before. Unfortunately, I forgot what he did and can only remember his diagnosis vaguely. It *could* be the power button itself that's causing the problem, else, it's the Mac's power unit.

Microsoft Office 2008 (Mac Version)

Microsoft pushes version 2008's release date...

to early 2008, instead of late 2007

(click each images below to expand them. From left to right: Word, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Entourage (only the widget is shown) )

http://i16.tinypic.com/65zx6yq_th.jpg http://i15.tinypic.com/6azklnc_th.jpg http://i15.tinypic.com/5xddpg9_th.jpg http://i9.tinypic.com/68cpp34_th.jpg http://i19.tinypic.com/4lf5k7t_th.jpg

Microsoft's Mac Business Unit on Thursday announced that the next Mac version of its industry-standard Microsoft Office suite will be delayed, saying the decision was purely "quality driven." The company told us that the release of the highly anticipated Office 2008 for Mac suite has been pushed back from its originally projected late 2007 release date to early 2008 -- "hopefully" in time for the annual Macworld Expo Conference, which takes place in early January. The Mac BU said that Office 2008 had a publicised "on track" release plan that would take place in the second half of 2007, but has been pushed backward.

Developing a Universal Office suite means coding for two separate platforms. The move from CodeWarrior to Xcode was a significant milestone and meant that the development team at the Mac BU had to learn new tools to continue development of Office 2008 for Mac," company representatives explained.

What about Mac OS 10.5 "Leopard" compatibility?

Addressing compatibility concerns with Apple's upcoming Mac OS X Leopard release, Eisler said that the company is "working closely with Apple to deliver the best possible experience for our mutual customers." However, the Microsoft employee also said that the Redmond-based company does not have any Leopard-specific features to announce at this time.

While the Mac BU is working with Apple to deliver the Office 2008 release, it would not comment on whether the productivity suite would be 100 percent compatible with Apple's Leopard operating system.**

We're predicting that this is so is because Apple reallocated development resources to focus on the timely release of the iPhone instead, henceforth delaying the release of its Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" operating system, probably setting aside the the work on Microsoft Office 2008 for a while.

** I'm thinking "Non-binary" versions of MS Office 2008 for Mac. It'll still work alright, but slower.

A pro-Windows dude and a desktop support personnel like me had thought the same way as well as ya.

From learning where the Control Panel ("System Preferences" in OSX) is, to the lack of an Alt key -- everything is by mouse clicks -- Those were definitely difficult times...but I got over it admist its glitzy interface.

I also found out that whatever I could do in 10 clicks in Windows, can be accomplished on a Mac with one-third of that...OS X is so darn "clear-cut" and sometimes, simple to use.

If I could describe it, it's like lying flat amongst the meadows staring at the sky...that's how exhilarating Macs are.

And yeah, the sleek hardware is to-die for :hungry:

The all new Aluminium (and glass) iMac desktop computer:

7 August 2007

http://i16.tinypic.com/6f76lqp.jpg

Apple surprised no one this morning with brand new iMacs. It just got shipped quietly.

Built from aluminum and glass, the new all-in-one desktops feature a complete, slimmer redesign and will come in two sizes: 20-inch and 24-inch. There's the usual compliment of ports like USB 2.0, Firewire 400 / 800, a slot loading SuperDrive, iSight camera and so forth.

The new look features a glossy display to match the majority of Apple's consumer lineup, and new keyboards are indeed coming along for the ride -- in an extended wired version as well as a mini wire free model, running the Bluetooth 2.0 spec.

Under the hood Apple has up to:

  • 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme processor - The very same processor targeted to hard-core Windows and PC based gamers.
  • ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics
  • Up to 1TB (1024GB) of storage
  • 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0
  • 8x SuperDrive - does everything from CD-RW to DVD-Dual Layer
  • 1GB of RAM standard across the board.

Prices start at USD1,199 for the 20-inch, USD$1,499 for a processor and graphics bump, USD$1,799 for the 24-incher and USD$2,299 for Core 2 Extreme. The full rundown of Apple's stock models is after the break.
