jb: K, frm my pic, see the red slab abv the round Givi logo? that's the number lock assembly for the quick access panel. It gives u an alternative way to open the box, to put in/take out items easily w/o opening the box as per usual.

 

However, when it comes to storing helmet or bigger items, still have to use the keys to open up the box.
