me dont usually let engine running at idling speed for a few minutes.ard 1 minute at most cost my exhuast pipe is wrap with a piece of metal.so easily warm up lor.tat what my frenz told me.

normally me start engine n wear helmet n then move off liao lor. :cheeky:

It does not matter on the absolute weight. It depends on how long you

hold it.

If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, we will not be able to carry on as the burden becoming increasingly heavier.

I guess move immedaitly is ok and engine do warm up faster when riding. Of course for the first 5 mins or so keep below 3000rpm. Unless the expressway is very near ur house if not, riding below 3000rpm should be just fine, high enough to warm up but low enough to prevent u from a speeding ticket.

But ususlly I dont really care, Just ride as normal. So far so good and I dont think anyone here develop any engine problems by not warming, do u?

If really true pls share with us. And oil do warm up faster as well as not wasting petrol, do u all think so?

The more I ride my SV, the less I care about going to the annual bike show and looking at new,

or expensive, or exotic machinery. I'm continuing to mod my bike into exactly what I want it,

and enjoying every mile I put on it.

personal, I will only warm up my bike when not in use for a couple of days. other that then, most of the time just wear helmet and glove then move off already..

i was told that it is alright to just start and move off...

many thanks in advance!

Moving it initially not smooth cos oil havent warm up.

And our thermostate wont cut in till high temp cos engine need temp to perform. Only by riding immediatly is the best way to warm up. And now engine refinement are good and dont think have problems.

Till now havent seen one or heard of anyone have a damage engine by not warming up.

Why so funny one this forum?

Many myths about biking?

Like white light more bright when u is tinted glass that change the colour only?

My light using 4000k brightness so very bright?

I also riding a super 4 with 2Ghz engine...(joke) They use the wrong unit for light which is lumen.

Install a switch to cut headlight, when most bikes have cut headlight when u

start the bike, that y u see light flicker when u start. Then no one can u how much the batt live longer than normal bike without switch.....

I hope more can understannd their bikes and I just more than willing to share.

warming up is supposed to let the engine oil circulate thru ur whole bike 1st b4 the moving parts in ur engine starts to be in motion as it needs lubrication. 4 strokers have their engine oil in a slump in the bottom when the engine is off, so by warming up, all the engine oil will go thru ur engine lubing it 1st b4 its in motion. u'll enhance the lifespan of ur engine's wear & tear items

Yes you are right!

But I think I saw this comment somewhere in the net before.

Anyway, good posting. :thumb:

THe engine knows nothing other than its rpm, so when you are driving down the street and not accelerating hard it is possible you will never go above 3000rpm and never exceed say 4000-6000rpm . this is not going to hurt your engine, its only going to increase the rate at which it warms up, not matter how fast the engine is turning the oil will always move relative to it.

I guess engine manufactring had reached a point of almost bullet proof.

So anyonw here did a major overhaul on the engine cos of not warming up?

Enhance engine life? I guess using good oil and maintain good service interval do enhance engine life. And if u live in really cool countires then warming up enhanced ur engine life.

The other only way to enhance engine life is not to use it...hee hee.

just did a Google search on "warming up bike ". The first three sites I looked at all had the following information in some way or another:

"Belief: Your vehicle's engine should be "warmed up" before driving in cold weather.

Reality: False. Warming your engine up, or idling, is not the best route to take. In fact, excessive idling can be damaging to your vehicle. You should, instead, drive the vehicle to get the engine warm during the cold weather."

And singapore dont have cold weather so no need to warm up. JSut ride gently for first few minutes.

Just a habit.. When i just start my bike in the morning...Can hear tapet clicking, timeing chain sound and all other sound. Idling speed also quite low. After about 3 minutes, exhaust air is warm, sounds disappear, then i ride of. Riding slow to warm up is ok. But just prefer to let it warm up a while before moving. Habit.

Anyway, who bothers to keep below 3k rpm for the first 3 minutes on the road...

y take the gamble then? just to proof u r correct? i do find it a bit silly but of cus its to each his own lah

I do produce facts and to prove correct or so is another issue and u say I am silly. Thanks, but u dont think I am correct, can u produce proof that I am wrong.

Or rather u believe in those myth of some biking theory? Like white ligth(unless HID)brighter or using headlight switch to prolong batt life.

If I can produce fact or professional explainations on that issue, will u choose to believe mi?

I do have an article that li4 send mi so I will put up here. Unless u can shows something that overturn the theory if not by saying someone produce facts and trying to clear the misundertanding, u comment on the facts is silly, Dont u think it reflect badly on urself?

For 4 strokes

Idling induces high torque loadings at the bottom end which drop dramatically at about 2000rpm. All sorts of clearences are bigger when cold, so a gradually changing rpm will help to keep bits pressed together and not rattling to and fro and therefore wearing. Too many rpm when cold can cause bigger problems than all of these, so I say: "warm up between 2-4000rpm, and keep varying the speed.

Standing still or Ride away?

I always ride away, I keep the revs down to 3500 until the temp gague starts to move (which means that the thermostat has started to open), this is because clearences are still big and whereas I want to keep things loaded up I don't want things getting up any momentum at 11000rpm, and valves can find it a bit difficult to close quickly when cold. Never ever let the engine labour (bog down) as each rev is like a hammer-blow through the system, I stay above 2000. Riding along means that you CAN keep a constant rpm, the drivetrain will load the engine up and keep it from rattling

ALternatives?

The alternative is to do like they warm the racebikes on telly (which I used to think was showing-off) which is to blip 2-5k until the temp starts to rise, then blip 5-8k until it reaches normal. Do this every morning and you'll never have to go to a neigbor's Booze and Uefa Cup Session:giddy:

So i say, Ride away ASAP

That is the acticle he send mi....
