yesterday while riding.

stopped at junction due to red light. from my perpendicular direction, light turned green and a gilera rider rode past my front and made a turn. right hand on throttle.... and left hand grasping an iphone plugged to earphones trailing into his helmet.

i already dun think its a good idea to listen to earphones while riding, but i can grudgingly admit in theory doing so is not any more dangerous than in a car windows up radio on.

but with the iphone in your left hand and controlling/steering your gilera with only your right hand, you clearly have intention to control the iphone while on the move. it is dangerous enough pulling such stunts when you're driving a car, but you're doing it while piloting a bike?!

2 questions for you, rider:

1) ride bike without using iphone will die meh?

2) ride bike and use iphone can die or not?

death.... I've got an iPhone mount and I already find it difficult to use the GPS with that mount already...

that Gilera rider's insanity level max...

These kind of riders sadly will only learn things through the hard way. Even when the traffic lights are red and coincidentally my phone would ring I will not answer it till I reach my destination safely. I could only say that for myself though.

last night while riding. was fetching wife back after her lessons at CPA house at geylang. reached the geylang lor 24 - guilmard road junction. saw a kips lanesplitting then suddenly ebraked for pesdestrian, almost knocking into a monster 400 who is in front of me. then he proceed to ride pass the pedestrian at very near distance but slowed down to talk to the pillion, effectively blocking the entire lane. the m4 rider overtook the kips on the double yellow line and the kips rider took offence, dropped gears and chased the m4. peeh peeeeeehhhhh peeeeeeeehhhhhhhh but still smelling smoke

LOL.. Kips rider.. Most of the time, 2 strokers are easily offended.. *including myself.. haha..

so I have the practice of slowly "crawling" up and after a certain distance before I clear my way.. Else, I'll stick to your backside all the way. (if I can pace the one infront).. =)

Will only get pek chey if they suddenly cut into my lane without checking or keep braking and hog the "0.5" lane when they can't go faster..

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...

Please proceed to this website/web link if you guys have any technical issues on Kawasaki Kips/KR150, I'll update the 1st POST as and when there's a new question. Newbies questions on the top as well. :)

Until now, I still don't understand why these bikes lane split if they are travelling at the same speed (or slower) as the vehicles beside them. :nono:

What I don't understand is this.

If these bikes are travelling at the same speed as the vehicles beside them,

why can't they travel on the proper lane instead of lane splitting?

What they are doing is block the bikes that are lane splitting behind.

May not be very "interesting" or "exciting". But the bicycle surprised me slightly. Just hope this scenario doesnt happen when a throttle happy rider is around. =X

Cyclists are the kings.

They are everywhere. On the roads, pavements, parks and sometimes expressways.

@zac. Maybe they scare of e car in front might anyhow stop and they cant brake in time?

@lycan. I saw e bicycle before e van turn. I assumed tat e bicycle will behave like normal road users and stop there wait for e van to finish turning before proceed. Thankfully i am slow. :/ encounter before very similar scenarios in carparks while making a turn, tat would be more scary. :(

imagine my situation was car was in front of me and the msia kup was just right beside me hogging the lane splitting lane. car had no choice to speed up as there was another car in front and msia kup choose to maintain right beside me. had no choice but to signal, slow down and go right behind him to lane change. luckily another msia kup behind saw me signalling and gave way

Ya bro..i agree..its like riding at the blindspots of the vehicles in lane 1 and 2..

Yup wen lanesplit better to be faster than same speed. At least moving u can evade any dangers. Same speed, u in their blindspot n nowhere to go except brake (if ur brakes are gd enuf)

exactly.. i literally had nowhere to run if the car in front was to jam brake

What I don't understand is this.

If these bikes are travelling at the same speed as the vehicles beside them,

why can't they travel on the proper lane instead of lane splitting?

What they are doing is block the bikes that are lane splitting behind.

even if they travel properly in the lane, they like to keep as close to the dotted lines as possible which allows vehicles to overtake them very closely and in some situations forcing them to go into the lane split lane

@xueling. Which is y some of my past comments was made in regards to overtaking during LS. LS by itself is already a risky action but most pf us do it including myself. Overtaking during LS increases e risk by so much more. U urself has just encountered a possible outcome. Not sure whether u were already behind e car in e first place or u tried to overtake e slow LS bike and got stuck. But it is a risk. Would suggest thinking through e overtake during LS and plan ur move carefully. If u were in fact overtaking during LS, just consider wat if e car had to brake just as u were accelerating to overtake?

Of coz it is just a "wat if", of coz it would be great if in e first place e slow bike could ve give way or went faster or dun be there in e first but i guess external factors we cant control. Thus do be more careful and also situation awareness. Riding is always a battle which is y it is so fun too i guess. :/

Did not ride today but took a double decked bus. Sat on top. At one junction saw a driver in a car kept touching the thighs if a female passenger. Female passenger was pushin driver's hand away. What a show. Now drivers got more distraction off the roads. Did not get a clip of it as the car was travelling straight and the bus I am in was making a right turn.

now the newest trend, ok.. maybe not that new, drivers watching videos on their ipad while driving. few of my frens spotted drivers putting the ipad against the steering wheel watching videos while driving.. even taxi drivers with passengers also do that

One way is to slow down using intermittent braking and create some space for you and the car in front. When its safe to change lane do so to get away from the situation you were in. Hope these 'multi taskers' get caught so the roads will be less dangerous.
