How about going behind the sliver short barrier that we will sit on it while waiting for the rain to get lighter? Is there any use to prevent this kind of bowling strike ?

There was once a rider parked at shoulder under a bridge and seeking shelter from the rain and got mowed down by a car. It was on the newspapers. The driver still think he did not do anything wrong. Crazy world we live in.

 

i remember that case.

the rider died.

the law says the driver did no wrong even though he drove onto road shoulder to bang the bike and rider.

BTW, the stretch of ECP e-way under the MSB - GBTB bridge has no road shoulder. Just a plain white line similar to normal roads.

I guess that's the reason why those bikes got crashed by the bus this morning. (park too close to the road)

I would not be surprised if a pedestrian would seek shelter at a bus stop and a crazy driver goes off road and bang the person and they will still say driver not wrong. Crazy world we live in. :screwy:

Before we get to those shelters most likely we will be drenched.

@NL27. Basically on e physics of how a car will impact those at road shoulder, basically e car wont head in, rather it will more likely side swipe, thus staying behind e barrier will likely save e person but of coz not e bikes.

@duo. Now a days i change my pattern slightly. Will look at sky and internet weather first. If risk of rain I'll wear full rain gear already so no need to stop. Of coz tat still dun save me from any accidents on e road itself. :/

If the impact of the sideswipe not so great then behind barrier still got chance to be safe. If the impact is so great then behind barrier or not very low chance to stay safe as the bikes and debris will be flying all over. Again this happens because the driver does not know the characteristics of the vehicle and speeding hence lose control.

i dun think those yellow/black plastic barriers at authorised shelter will reduce much of the impact from any crashing vehicle. ever seen the same type of plastic barriers on some chevron markings to deter motorists from making last min exit, the barriers got crush till i dun see anymore more left

Second that. Why can't they just build

Shelters with something like 1km apart. I don think that will cost a

Bomb. No electricity wire no lights etc. with a shelter is good

and there are tell-tale signs of rain.. strong cooling winds, dark clouds..

no computer to check and using non camera old handphone also cannot check leh .. bike also no box to carry rain coat ..

while i do not know exactly what happened, the photo implies its the bikes that were parked indiscriminately. they look like they were hit while stationary on the right of the shoulder line instead of left. granted, it looks like the shoulder itself in the photo is narrower than usual, but as a biker i'd rather press on slowly get wet until a more suitable spot rather than stop at an extra-narrow shoulder.

Pity goes to them but not a very smart move from the riders. Quite common where this riders just stop anywhere, be it on chevrons or right underneath a pedestrian bridge. Just nt worth the risk. I rather be a little wet n find d next proper shelter.

sometimes, the rain are very heavy til u cant see or its even painful to carry on the journey. if this happens no matter wat stopping is the better choice... if the shoulder is narrow, park ur bike and get away from the roads and keep an eye on the traffic
