011012 PIE Exit to Lornie Bike Accident.jpg

Saw the aftermath of this bike at PIE Exit to Lornie Road. Not so clear in the picture but the front left head of the bike is gone. Just in front is a Bendy bus. Not sure wat happened though. Riders pls ride with care, it is unfair to us but it is to our advantage to take care of ourselves.

ouch!!

That would definitely hurt. Looks like bike wanted to overtake the car with the recorder but the suv decided to change lane as the car in front of it stopped. Doubt there was any chance for the rider to stop safely. If he did managed to the lorry would probably hit him from the rear. The helmet that was flung was a spare helmet the rider sling on his back. I am quite disappointed that the driver did not have a sense of urgency to help the fallen rider be it his or anybody's fault. It took awhile before the driver got out of the vehicle to access the situation. From what I know in an accident vehicles involved are not to be moved but seems the driver decide to move back into the centre of the lane. I could be wrong though.Guess the rider was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Hope the rider is not too badly injured.

I agree with what you guys just mentioned.

It's sad, but I even I felt that riding in Malaysia seemed so much safer as compared to Singapore (Excluding issues of road theft crimes).

It is a hard truth, but as a Singaporean, I am disgraced to say that Singaporeans are one hell lot of an unconsiderate road users. It's always "the bigger bullys".

How many times have you encountered CARS and LORRIES filtering into our lane without giving a hoohaa about motorcyclists? For me, countless times.

Talk about us swerving in between lanes. I rather swerve around inbetween lane rather than get crushed by all these idiotic road users.

It seemed that the more expensive your ride, the more "priviliege" you should have mentality is so prominent in Singapore road users.

Reckless tailgating

Impatient Over-taking (How many times when I had the courtesy to move to the left when I saw speeding vehicles and before I do so, they cut me on the left)

Permanent HIGH BEAM (Always having this "GET OUT OF MY WAY!!" attitude, usually on luxury cars like BMWs, Audis, Merc. Not excluding all time racer boy - Honda Civics)

It is clearly a disadvantage for alot of motorcyclists, due to our size, and regardless of the situation, we are the ones going down.

Just before someone assumes that it has become a "Rider vs Driver" rant, I do possess a Class 3 License, though I seldom drive (My brother damn niao with his car, so I rather use my own bike)

Alot of drivers in Singapore do not possess any motorcycle license, nor they have ridden one before. So they naturally won't understand our feelings.

Needless to say, there are blacksheeps that tarnish our image as well. Not racist or anything, but do all these "groups" sound familiar ?

- MAT rampits (Famous with RXZs .. pppeeeeehhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

-Typical chinese ah bengs (With their usual CBRs, RVFs, and SPs)

-Super 4 racers (See small bike? Blow at traffic like and take off like a rocket to prove that they have class 2A. God. Not like I don't have)

Again, sorry if any stereotypes or such offended anyone. I am just trying to reilliterate that there are also people at fault on our side that creates certain prejudence against us motorcyclists.

Big bikes look down on small bikes, challenging each other on the road etc.

Just to mention that everyone is using the road for one same purpose, to get from one place to another conviniently and in one piece.

So don't take the road as a track please? It doesn't matter how "satki" you are on the road with all your speed, your lights or your HKS/GPR/SBK exhaust. When you crash, the only thing that people identify of you is not your handsome/pretty face, not your wonderful german/italian engineered machines, but your number plate.

Sorry that this post got this long. Just sharing my 2 cents on our road issues. Once again, I apologized if there is any offensive statement within my post, and mods feel free to adjust my post is there is of such issues.

i agree with the above,

as i travel daily on sg roads & go johor frequently, i got the same experience.

1) many sg drivers like to hog the centre of 2 lanes round every curve, no matter how gentle the curve or how slow they are going, sometimes hogging way before the curve.

2) if you obediently follow what you are taught about safety, not tailgating, giving ample space, not lane splitting, not speeding ( like what "goody" riders do in their videos ) i personally will guarantee that a vehicle will cut into your path EVERYTIME unless there are no vehicles around or traffic is extremely light. unlike riding / driving school, the law of the real world is " i will get in front of you because i CAN ! :p.

this could be due to our open secret that the guy in front is always in the "right", personal experience from authorities.:(

3) i have also driven company vans & lorries, so i also know how to drive. many sg drivers have the attitude that they are very a-sai just because they got driving licence, even though they have no bike licence. they think we are too dumb to pass class 3, or too poor to buy cars. as far as i can tell i owe no debt on my bike where they still have many installments left to pay.

riding kups is very common in malaysia, so many malaysian drivers have both licences & riding experience , thus more understanding & less arrogrance. i am saying generally of course there are stupid malaysian drivers also.

One way to deter cats from using seats as scratching posts is to spray some cheap axe oil. :p

It is possible. Years ago there were similar thunderstorms which uprooted trees swinged the old type of HDB windows causing it to break and a few bikes at the bikelots fell mainly due to the domino effect. Big branches of the trees also fell on cars.

the vehicle has already stopped before the bike banged into it.

but seriously, why is the bike lane splitting when the traffic is pretty smooth from the footage?

pardon me, but he seriously is asking for it, mat rempit style.

True but the suv swerved out abit before coming to a standstill. But who are we to judge what the rider deserves? We are only human. And being human we are susceptible to make errors. Just hope that the rider is not too badly injured. Guess its quite true what an old friend used to tell me. Its not really speeding that kills but being in a sudden stationary state does.

what i can deduce is that, the incident is totally avoidable IF he keeps to his lane behind the lorry, and not trying to squeeze thru that small gap. the vehicle who is doing the recording shows that IF he can avoid, why not the biker?

the gap while L/S is more consistent when the both vehicles on both lanes are moving, but not when 1 side has stopped or slowed down considerably.

True. However do keep in mind bikes and cars have different safe braking distances. The rider might be rushing to meet someone hence the LS. The rider probably tried to LS to overtake the lorry as its visible in the vid even cars on the most left lane are moving much faster than the lorry but the rider did not anticipate the vehicles on his right to suddenly come to a standstill much less the gap being closed by the suv and was taken by surprise. I feel everyone have a part to play.

either that or he's riding without his brains.

in this kind of traffic conditions, there is no need to L/S.

do a proper overtaking instead.

Yesterday while riding, there was an inconsiderate driver parked in the carpark's lane with his hazard lights on, playing HP! :faint:

Made everyone who needed to use the lane go around him, when he could have just parked properly and save everyone else the inconvience. :(

Motorcyclist are the nicest people on the road, try not to kill us.

You keep on talking about "the gap being closed by the SUV" and the SUV "swerved out" - let's be clear, the SUV is still 100% in his lane and he has to hit the brakes because of traffic ahead. The SUV is 0% at fault. Sure, if he was driving to the right of the lane instead of the left, an accident would perhaps have been avoided, but it's not his obligation to leave a gap for lane splitting riders who either don't pay attention to traffic or do not know their own safe stopping distance.

yes, correct. the SUV did saw the lorry approaching from his/her left, that's why he/she didn't inch out of the lane, but rather stop behind the car in front before making a lane change to the left when traffic is clear.

the SUV did not cause the accident by any case as the SUV didn't squeeze it's head out to the next lane at all.

Sadly i agree with this post. Which is y i always argue strongly against actions tat will increase e risk while LS since LS by itself is already extremely risky.

Things like tailgating, overtaking while LS, etc. Sry to bring these up but again, sadly, this is a example of e dangers of LS regardless of clear or not traffic conditions.

Ps: i noe i always upset over cars crossing e line. But in this case, even if e suv did cross e line, i still blame myself partly for not paying more attention, for too fast and for LSing.
