So riding within speed limit causes accidents? Riding faster doesn't prevent them either, there's always an idiot somewhere ahead. I believe you just have poor anticipation of traffic flow and unable to read driver behavior.

You see junction, you slow down, don't expect the driver to somehow give way, he might be an idiot, you never know. A driver decides to change lane while you're in it? Drop gear, give the throttle some love and swerve away from the dumbass.

The only time I have to break the speed limit is when drivers are harassing me or when its better to just overtake.

For me speed isn't the issue, its how you read their behavior and how you react, sometimes **** happens, nothing you can do to prevent it. Not saying I pro or what, its just what I've observed and what I observed from my friend's style of riding, he gets into more close shaves than I do because he swerves in and out, speeding for no good reason, tailgates etc. So far all my accidents were minor and because I rode beyond the bike's and the rider's limit.

I glance at my meter, analog or digital still can see, can even glance at tacho to see your RPM, hell I have to glance at odometer cuz that's how I know how much petrol left, like that how you look at your meter? Stare long long confirm you rear end.

+1 ... I likeeeeeeee :)

Like I said, my accidents which were more serious and when I was riding bike happened in 2008. When I was p-plate and very safe. Now, 2013 I'm not so safe anymore, because I feel that being safe is in fact not safe for me. I don't feel safe following TP anymore. Because my bike is not white, it's not class 2, it doesn't have sirens and it doesn't have blinkers like the TP. So of course following the TP is not advisable. Because TP bikes are big, can't really lane split, cars can see them more clearly. My bike too small, never lane split cars never see me, change lane and bang me. My most recent accident happened in June 2012. Blind driver hit me from behind at 10:30AM and said he can't see me. Why I got hit? Because I did not lane split and I was behind a car when it happened. Why I never lane split? Traffic congested, too lazy to lane split and no opportunity to lane split. So I stop behind a car, and he hit me from behind. This wouldn't have happened if I was lane splitting. But TP doesn't allow lane splitting. So like that how? Lanesplit better or don't Lanesplit better? Follow TP better or don't follow TP better? Answer la. Lanesplit is not following TP. Don't Lanesplit is following TP. Very short and simple way to know what kind of person u are.

You say no opportunity to LS, then you stop behind car, then he bang you from behind, then suddenly you say it wouldn't have happened if you LS. Make up your mind can? Well I don't have to answer much la, to each his own. Nobody ask you to follow TP, like I said, its a matter of how you read the situation and some things can't be avoided, only prevented.

Want to break my needle? Gangster hor? Like that remove your meter better, become lacer, dun see meter one, see corner just drop 2 gears, brake, knee out and knee down. You assume I can't ride with the meter, the meter is there for you to see your speed, RPM, oil level, petrol, mileage etc and not just speed. Wah if glancing at the meter so difficult. Confirm cannot go north south highway one like that. Confirm see you push the bike for another 5km to the next petrol station.

Yeah, agreed. And don't forget that if really he bang into u, you're at fault for braking for no reason and get claimed. In front no car, why u brake for? Driver bang u, u get hospitalized, u get claimed, and u got no bike. Seriously not fun. Anyway, I was going at 60-70 when the BMW started tailgating me. When I wanted to change left lane, this lorry was speeding up on that lane. I think the lorry playing with the BMW la. Then the BMW come play with me. Wtf. So of course, maintaining at 70 only closes the gap between me and the BMW, the next obvious thing to do is to speed up and make distance between me and the BMW. So I accelerated and kept right, because I was going to u-turn at the junction. And the TP was hiding on the overhead bridge about 50-100 meters before the junction. Lamp post 9, before the junction to Republic Polytechnic. I think the TP thought I was one of the schools racers, that's why summon me. If he stop me and ask me, he would've understood why I would go so fast. Seriously la. All hide here and there, instead of making the roads safer, they're making it worse. Must look out for heavy vehicles, pedestrians running across the road, foreign objects on the road, cars bikes other country lorry, now still have to look at speedometer and overhead bridge ah? Seriously? If I look at my speedometer, how am I supposed to look at other vehicles brake lights? Imagine u look at your speedometer and the car in front suddenly e brake... Boom! Hospital here I come... That's what they want ah? Seriously la. U see ah, all their laws made up without using their brains. Can't speed. How the hell do I know that I'm speeding when I don't look at my speedometer? I'm just riding at my comfortable speed. Comfortable enough to brake, stop and whatever it takes to avoid an accident. Why the hell would I wanna look at my speedometer and increase the chances for me to get involved in an accident? Get what I mean? Most of the accidents occur when drivers/ riders eyes are not on the road, preoccupied by something else like talking to other passengers in the vehicle. Talking on the phone, hands free. Seriously, so what if I'm speeding? The whole freaking road was clear up to the junction. Did I endanger any pedestrians life or cause inconvenience to other road users? No I did not. Why I speed? To prevent the tailgater from hitting me from behind. Anyway, how the hell am I supposed to know I'm speeding when my eyes were on the side mirrors and the road ahead all the way up to the junction? I'm getting played by a car on the road and u expect me to take my eyes off the road to look at my speedometer speed?

Read ur post and in my mind already thinking. Y u "look" at ur speedo will need so long and fail to see front? Anyway u say u were 70 i assume it was not a eway. Since e lorry u think was playing with e bmw, i assume before e bmw come, 2nd lane was clear.

My practice is always never be on lane 1 unless lane 2 not clear. If i ve to be on lane 1 i will be slightly above legal spd already.

Next, remember e traffic law is, give way under safe conditions. This applies even for emergency vehicles. Thus in ur case, there wasnt a need to try too hard to give way. But i agree if u didnt, there may be danger from behind.

So did u appeal? Then wat can u do in e future? Becoz ur case may happen again and ur agreesive method of spd up = charge for speeding. So doesnt solve anything.

Thus u can apply even more defensive by improving ur observation skills. Upfront i can think of 2 positives. 1 is u can safely glance at ur speedo and not worry about ur front. 2 is u will ve seen e bmw come from far. Then u will also ve seen e lorry in lane 2 playing with e bmw so u will change to lane 3. Then they both kanna for speeding. And u can also summit a complain to TP stating this 2 vehicle were racing. The TP evidence of them speeding is a fair evidence of them racing.

So yea do consider training ur defensive skills too.

U go see psychiatrist yourself. U need more help than me. U think every bike is the same as yours? U think everyone ride like u? ICU ride so good, why u never join TP? Failed your iq test ah? Too bad la...

Alot of ften ask me same thing. Y no join TP. Coz i lazy.

Ps: if ur bike speedo really need u to take ur eyes off e road, maybr consider extra light for ur display or change bike? This is adding to ur high risk life. :(

All bikes r same in functionality, its e rider dat makes e difference.. Yup not everyone rides like me thus im not part of e accident statistics unlike u ? :) ...

This part i disgree lei. Different bike ve to ride differently. Simple example is cruiser, street, sport, scooter ride differently.

Capacity also ride differently. New and old parts bike also. So not just rider, bike also play big part. But rider is still huge component la

People with the mentality of , "Aiya, I ride speed limit so safe, sure won't get into accident one. Anyway I also riding for so many years, never get accident before, sure won't get into accident one." sooner or later it'll happen, don't be too cocky. I had the same mentality when I followed the speed limit. "Aiya, got p-plate sure won't get into accident one. I ride so slow sure won't bang one." end up accident twice in the same year I got my license. So u wanna continue your cocky mentality then so be it, don't say I didn't warn u. U feel happy being a nuisance to others it's also up to u. Sooner or later you'll get what's coming... GOD is watching...

I think none of us here who prefers defensive riding is saying to always keep to spd limit. :) maybe u need to take a step back and learn how i ride?

My needle broke off when I tried 230... Vibrate too much till it break can? -.-

Still cocky I see. Save the warning for myself? Hmm. Let me think. Nah. I still believe going at my speed is safer for me. Prevented lots of accidents for me. Anyway, I think 3 accidents with other vehicles is enough warning for me. It warns me and reminds me not to follow TP speed limit all the time. Sometimes u just have to trust your instinct and I trust my instinct with my life. Do u?

Just tp clarify. After u change to ur agreesove way, no more accident is it?

Well if yes then good for u ba. Guess u should stick to it. But should consider lvl up some of ur defensive skills like observation, glance at speedo skill, etc.

But keep to ur way if it keeps u alive. Just dun make e roads worse with ur hit side mirror mentality can?

Imagine u think u not in e wrong and i think u in e wrong then i come break ur side mirror. How u feel?

I was going to do a u turn at the junction ahead about 100-300 meters away. I was keeping right.

Nvm la. I never go book defensive riding with driving centre. All learnt the hard way, through bloodshed and pain and agony and suffering. Hell, I've even learnt to predict drivers next move. So I think shouldn't be a problem la. Unless got racer from behind coming at 240 when I'm going at 90. Then that's a problem. Too fast can't see anything. Boom. Hospital again. Lol.

I never break ah. Just close the mirror only. Only the lorry with china driver broken mirror in 2009. And the most recent taxi in 2012 closed mirror for him. Never break. Trying to change that mentality la. But seriously got some drivers really testing my patience. I think u all see the way they drive also want to do something. Bloody hell, drive less than a quarter length car from the car in front, waiting for an accident to happen. And I following behind also don't dare to go so close in case really bang and got bumper fly out from nowhere. 5-6 car lengths distance from me to him. Really very f up sia. It's this kind of drivers that I do something. Those normal once in awhile near miss I won't bother de. It normal. But those tailgaters with hid lights and high beam all the way, won't u do anything about them?

So far, up to date, accidents involving other vehicles all riding at speed limit or according to TP test. Haven't clocked a single accident while speeding or lane splitting or all those illegal stuff for TP to summon. Unless self skid is an accident, I've got 1 self skid while lane splitting thanks to two Malay drz riders overtaking me while lanesplitting and jamming their brakes in front of me. Just 1-2 months after I got my first bike. Cornering about 4 skids, one white line damn high like a hump corner skid when I p plate third accident, another one p plate kena stone while cornering second accident. Another one p plate kena kerb first accident. Fourth one happened when I was on my way to bike shop to tighten chain. Corner left and the chain dropped out, rear wheel locked, skid. That should be all la. I don't know why, I still prefer to self skid than to get hit by other vehicles. So what if there's a claim to get? Its not fun. Self skid is more fun than hitting a car.

Dats y its e rider dat makes e difference... Rider got to "learn n study" his bike characteristic - tis applies to both big n small cc; new n old bikes... Rider plays e biggest part bro coz rider got to choose his ride n not otherwise :) ... For example ; If bike old oreidi but rider big ego "aka cannot lose attitude" when kena disturb by other rider, he will juz twist e throttle n hoot e bugger without thinking e condition of e poor bike.. In e end bike fall sick, rider curse n swear gotta repair tis n dat n eventually blame e bike for giving so much problem :) ... Even for big cc bike oso same... Rider juz got class 2, saw a bike he like n buy it... Juž came out of bikeshop, str8 away hoot e bike then when lost control got into accident go n blame e bike for being to powerful but in e 1st place e bike juz "sit" quietly in e bikeshop n didnt ask e rider to buy him ma, so who's to b blamed ? Isnt it e rider ? :) ... N it applies to all e types of bikes u had mentioned above bro ....

C lah i gotta type so long to explain hehe...

I dunno what to say bro... Only thing i can say is, if it's not the way you ride, then must be your tyre cui or the road cui for you to self skid so many times. I ever self skid once. 2nd week i riding my bike, want to impress some chio bu at SIM, took the left turn into SIM from clementi road at gear 4. The left turn is uphill somemore. That time i havent change my tyres yet, then rear slide out. Heng i manage to catch back my balance. After this incident, guai guai liao, all turns never higher than gear 3. Never skidded ever since.

I also love to do gradual braking now. Always challenge myself that when i stop at the stop line, there will be no braking jerk. And if i have pillion, i challenge myself to be able to break without pillion sliding forward at all.

RIDE.

I have more peace of mind riding in KL with their ****in potholes than I do in Singapore.

Yup. The tyre problem at the time. Just bought the bike from my friend rear tyre IRC brand on my Kawasaki kr 150. Not a good tyre. But didn't know at that time because I just passed my license.

Good. Sadly for me all the drivers I went up to either act blur or just could not be bothered. And none admits making the mistake.
