I am not hurt, I have lost faith in the system a long time ago.

Hi fellow SG riders, we all know about the recent awful jumps in motorbike COE and I've written the following blog post and hope to get it published in the press soon.

comparison btwn 2-wheels vs >4-wheels:

>4-wheels have cat A, B, C (commercial) n E (Open), total population increase per annual r 0.5+0.5+0.5+0.5=2%.

whereas 2-wheels cat D population increase per annual = 0.5% - 15% of total annual scrapped bikes transferred to cat E.

completely unfair practice from papaya, fairness across the board????

even exclude buses n heavy vehicles (commercial), it still >1.5% (not excluding taxi).

why only cut cat D (dun contribute to traffic congestion)?

fairness across the board, papaya should cut every categories and increase cat D population to equivalent of cat A+B+E (cars).

People tend to see cars as a way to show off their status and quality of life. People tend to see bikes as death machines. Sadly not many people see the real benefit of bikes and how they can cut down on traffic and pollution. Change the mindset and we might have a better chance surviving

Hey, thank you for writing this.

Wondering if you could also forward it to your MP, so at least they know that us bikers are not happy with how LTA took the bike COE to give to cars. End result is horrible, bike COE prices tripled and car COE prices still sky-high. I hope that they can pressure transport minister to do something about this.

They know bloody well what they are doing will reduce motorcycle population. They're just trying to force people into their packed and unreliable public transport. The problems that were associated with motorcycles in the 1980s are long gone now, with the rapidly diminishing numbers of two-strokes.

Hey xavw, forwarding anything to MPs usually ends in no result :) But sharing it and getting it published in the mainstream press will definitely get their attention. I've sent the letter to Today newspaper, hopefully they will publish it.

so right about we do not have a strong voice.. but then again, so what if we have? will the gov listen? i doubt so.

however if dont try will never know.

here we are at the busiest motorcycle forum in singapore. i believe if anything has to happen it starts here. like a petition, or a strong voice.

speed and be home 5 mins early or 7 days late.

The gov won't listen even if its a strong voice. The one in charge of vehicle related matters has his own agenda, ego and ambition. Doesn't matter what works, he'll just do what he thinks works.

I wish the policy maker would walk the ground more and come face us bikers and tell us why squeeze the supply of motorcycle COEs. Does not make sense to anyone that the bike supply is reduced.

MRT stations are popping up everywhere. How much does it cost to maintain a station? We may be able to obtain an estimate based on the figures provided by the Shitty Times when they refused to open Buangkok station some years back, citing operational costs of doing so. Today, we have stations all over the island, which attracts a rather significant increase in running costs. Ridership is generally inelastic. If we now have a population of 5m, a percentage depends on public transportation. This is a fixed revenue base. More stations equates to higher operating costs equals lower profits. When it comes to a time where even riding a motorcycle is too expensive, people will grudgingly move to public transportation. Revenue goes up, so do profits. If you ask me if the COE escalation of motorcycles could be intended, I would say it is not far fetched. At some point, we would all have to cry uncle collectively before the entire system turns us into slaves.

well we are all helpless when it comes to gov money making games

use ur brain lah, who voted this gov in in the first place? People. so we can vote them out in 2016 since we are not happy, how does transferring coe quota from car to motorcycle cut down congestion on the road? Idiots!!!

Truth:

The COE system was put in place to hurt ALL private motorists.

You seriously can't really call a system designed to levy rent-seeking charges on vehicle ownership beneficial to motorists, right?

It's only beneficiary is the Govt, and its goal of "keeping productivity and GDP up" via their self-imagined relationship between congestion and the economy.
