This is where i scratch my also. even though i dont know your car , but my China mad car is still good because its OPC. even though it has travel 110k km, i feel its still strong. even the private mecahnic i go to say , the engine is very good. i am not sure what will happen in 2017 when its coe will expire, hopefully the coe drops to say 40k. then i will probably renew it for 5years and then scrap it. why??? because many parts are not easily availlable and with the way coe is increasing, i think china cars company may fold because many people are not buying them anymore.

from the parf value, i would say your car is koreaa or malaysia made. most cars after travelling 70k km and above start to create problems. its difficult to say , depend on your budget.

70k km is peanuts. I doubt many cars start creating problems after 70k km. Except maybe china car I dunno. U see australia and america, people drive 20-30 year old cars no problem at all. Malaysia also got 1980s Datsuns and 1990s Protons in running condition.

Both my cars, one Kimchi, one sushi both more than 200,000kms still running strong. Keeping my fingers crossed for 2016 when both the COEs expire.

Hahaha....scrap both get parf,buy a 2yr left car better.

I Expected coe to drop at early 2010 period to around $45-60k.

Because 2010 onward is 50k and climbing.

It make no sense for them to bring down to 20k frame because of the 2011-2014 coe is 70-100k.

Imagine majority of 2011-2014 all scrap at the same time to get back coe balance. ..

Another thing is the 50% downpayment/5yrs loan period.

Its good to filter those who cant afford a car yet die die want face, must have car.

Worst hit personal

1-salesman with pity car allowance.

2-ppl with disable family mbrs/hospital treatment.

No point. Both these cars expired in first quarter 2016. And my kimchi car annual depreciation is only $3.5k! Perfect timing for me to replace both in 2016.

my assumption is based on many excolleagues who always change cars after driving 5 years or more than 70k+ km. myself . i didnt really care about their habit until i bought myself a first hand car and really wonder my friends's expericneces. now while i ride china car which start gave problems (maybe small such as alternator spoil) in the first 35k km, my ex colleaguie drive cars like Honda , Toyota , Nissan.

i used to own a datsun which i kept for 5 years and gave me very few problems. i drove many times to malacca and genting .

i think now adays car manufacturer have tweeak their machine NOT to last like cars of olden days. another good example old crt tv. anyways its just my opinion. back to the main question please :Will you renew COE for your 10yo car in good condition or buy a 2nd hand parf car

I will choose to renew the coe.

Because

Example as below

Brand new altis-$134k with $80k coe

Machine cost $54K!

I already got a good reliable working car.. unless i upgrade to 7 seater mvp.

Will be renewing COE for my cat B car later this year.

mileage now 91,000

condition tiptop

and i know the car inside out so why not?

of course tempted to get a newer one but best to just take it easy as cars are an expense at the end of the day.

Pay full is better right? Own it rather than loan it.

i understand, you can finance with some dealers but why bother renewing COE unless its a good car with value? Better just to get a secondhand car with PARF if you wanna take a loan
