[Archived - 2009] PK Official- Questions for Newbie

Hi PKs.. got a question regarding de-greasing.

When I wash my bike and clean the chain, I will degrease the chain with a degreaser. So I was just wondering

1) how did the grease get on in the first place>?

2) issit we must grease the chain every now n then OR chain lube is enough?

3) is it okay to wash off all the grease off the chain n sprocket??

Thankew!

The did O-ring chain comes with grease which is retained by the rubber rings. Further more when we lube with EO, it will collect dust and thickens, thus it becomes like grease. The chain can be washed with diesel ( though a bit messy), and then lubed again at least every 1000 km or 5-600 if rainy, fast acceleration and so on. It must be washed off to remove the dirt that sticks to the oil and then oil again. In this way we prolong the lifespan of the chain and sprockets.

I just love the looks, feel and sound of an old good Guzzi, though it has been around since the time of my Grandfather. I guess "they" don't do things like that anymore! Well it's not true.

"They" still do URALS

oh yes, i got that prob too. it's very hard to kick up even to gear 2 at times. i tried to blip the throttle, but to no avail. finally i switched off engine and viola!.

it was so easy to engage to neutral.

but then, it got away after chnging engine oil. i used fully syn castrol when that happened. maybe too slippery?. changed to maxima semi-syn ever since. doing good.

For every 7 pounds you lose, you gain one horsepower.

Dear PKs.. got a question on 'tyre friction'

I am using metz tyres front n rear. I got this bike 2nd hand and from the tyre manufacture date, it's 2004. The tyre threads look fine to me.. at least 2mm deep.

But when I ride over 'road paintings' such as the arrows or double yellow line, the wheels seem to lose grip.. have to control bike to prevent it from 'slipping' from side to side. This is more so when I pillion. I feel as if the bike is 'slipping' and if I dun steady my steering and brake, the bike sure slip on its side.

Is it a common occurence for all bikes?

check the condition of the tyre whether the rubber has harden or not ..

but i think its safer to change to new sets of tyre :thumb:

Drink coffee always :p

eh metal, say about how much distance btw? long journeys huh..fair enough to check in the day when sun is hot and night when the weather is chilly?

Posted

i read somewhere that tire threads are to be at least 4mm deep, correct me if i'm wrong.

so top abt 120 is ok? im not wanting to be a speeder but wanna find out if my ride is ok. cos my bike like 110-120 top max. usually i ride abt 60-80 on normal road and 100 on expressways

why dun use Wd40???

WD40 will so called destroy your chain and it doesn't last long .. use castrol lub .. choose wet lub instead of wax lub .. its better ..

anyway .. about speed stuck at 110km/h .. few things to ask ..

-How old is your bike?

-what petrol u pumping?

-what EO u using?

-any signs or symptoms or clutch wear?

-Original spockets?

my phantom always hit at least 130km/h on my way to work (my poor bike)

but always treat my bike Esso 8000 petrol, Good EO and lastly m21 friction

reducer .. hee :p

Drink coffee always :p

mine can go up to 135 which I rarely do, once in a while you speed is fine..clear some carbon, but make sure you can handle the bike at such speed in case you see anything ahead, eg. sharp corners, pot holes, gravel, your uncle

smile and ride relaxed instead :]

Hey bros.. wanna ask if I should change my chain n sprocket..

For my ta200, my chain tension does not seem to be 'uniform' throughout. Meaning if I park bike, the chain tension might seem slightly slack. But if i push my bike forward abt half a bike length, the chain becomes tight. The difference I would put it as a 1-2 index finger diameter difference. Not too bad.

So far, I have been riding this bike for 2 mths + and no visible problems. Should I change my chain n sprocket?? Where is good to change?

Thanks!!
