Quite recent. close to 2 months ago. did servicing such as changing of spark plug, engine oil, valve clearance etc. so far i've experienced around 2 clutch slips.

emm. other symptoms such as?

symptoms like jumping of gears after u have engaged gear. e.g. gear jumps from 2nd gear to 1st gear after u have engaged and clutched out.

another so called test of worn out clutch plates is when u engage gear 1 from neutral gear, whether does the bike jerk forward. but note that this test may produce wrong result as having improperly adjusted clutch biting point will also result in bike jerking forward.

in a very bad case of worn clutch plates, the bike needs to rev higher in order to achieve a certain speed. e.g. before, 90kmph at 6k RPM. after, 90kmph at 8k RPM.

based on what u have described abt sudden drop in RPM while maintaining throttle, it seems to me there is a possibility that it could be due to fuel or electrical issues as well. just dont want u to spend money for nothing.

:cheeky:

thanx.

Spark is firing so next logical step is to find out whether fuel is entering carb n cylinder or not.

Hmm but never opened 4stroke carb before.

Is it similar to 2stroke or is there any difference to take note of?

if i were u, i will just try out change of spark plug. if this fails to correct e problem, will tow to bikeshop. main reason is that i feel spark plug is one of the more likely culprits and it's cheap to replace anyways. if it still doesnt solve the problem, at least i know i can safely eliminate it as the cause of engine not starting.

im not gd with meddling w/ carb components. but i do know that unless the carb has been tempered with, if not, it probably wont have gone as haywire as to render a A/F mixture bad enough to not get the engine started one bit.

fuel flow wise, quite unlikely as well unless the bike has been parked for super long time when all the rust, dirt, water, etc could have caused major blocakge in fuel delivery. rocking the entire bike (along with the fuel tank) can probably stir the contaminants abit letting more fuel into the system. but if the engine cant start one bit, then maybe it's due to other causes.

let's not rule out xbfish's suggestion abt spoilt CDI also~ :p

hmm if the magnet coil spoil, can the spark plug still fire?

because i've check the spark plug and it fires.

if coil totally conked out, then spark plug wont fire. but if coil is faulty, as in it produces insufficient or inconsistent current, then thats when it's hard to detect. same applies for the spark plug. it may give a few sparks when u test it. but sekali u put back into the cylinder the thing gives a weak spark.

:cheeky:

so far i kena a few stunts from my cbr150 after abt 4yrs of ownership.

1. choke cable kena stucked open, so engine cannot idle properly after warmed up.

2. fuel pump faulty, so i see the rpm reading rollercoaster up and down when i maintained throttle. no amount of idling adjustment done can produce consistent results.

3. spark plug foul/fouling. engine cannot start most of the time. but after repeated cranking for 5min, it decides to work again. but i need to maintain 5k rpm and above to prevent engine from dying off. replaced e plug and all is fine again without having to even re-tune a/f. case of kena malfunctioning spark plug?

4. water contaminated fuel. have to rock the bike/fuel tank + open choke + full throttle then managed to get the engine fired up.

5. contact points at ignition key switch broke and short circuited. totally no power supply to bike (no neutral light) unless i turn the handlebars at certain angle.

try this shop called de xing.

i recently heard from a fren that they quoted him $6k for cbr150. maybe u wan to call & check w/ the shop. price may vary cause of age, affecting insurance premium, etc.

i have no experience buying from de xing. so no reviews from me on them.

according to manual book

1st gear = 10.5k rpm

2nd gear = 10.5k rpm

con'd until 6th gear

but mine, this is what i did to my bike, as THE DOHC system are build to sustain high rpm without error, compare to SOHC bike system

1st gear = 11k rpm

2nd gear = 12.5k rpm

3rd gear = 13k rpm

4th gear = 13k rpm

5th gear 13.5k rpm

6th gear = maintain redline

i tested with these rpm, i was able to clock at 170kmh on tangkak highway, my sprocket adjustment was 14-42

Hi bro that is really for racer and fuel consumption will be very high. not wise to maintain redline all the way in 6th gear. further more dont forget the power cut that we have in singapore.

since u r taking engine apart enough to access con-rod, why not check for the rest of the components and replace one shot? saves u the hassle of opening up the engine again next time.

i did my for about $450. opened engine to replace tensioner guides and got others like piston replaced too.

:goodluck:

hi bros, may i ask what is roughly the ideal rpm u guys shift gears up? i scare i might rev too high for my riding style. (for normal travelling.)

IMHO, 9-10k rpm is too high for normal riding.

different pple got different standards for normal riding i guess? hehe

if u r going to whack the bike, just standby more $$ for wear and tear replacement. that's all.

oh my haha ok will reduce to around 6-9k then. i nv really see the rpm la i just listen to the sound but usually i shift up quite early i think, on highway i maintain around 7-8k on 90-110km/h its fine right?

forget something *

only when i was in jb haha...ill speed up a lil bit...

im into track anyway with this little cbr....

is this correct bro? becoz i read through the manual and it doesnt say to shift gear with this RPM. It just read there when you attain the speed you want then you shift gear.... just askin bros...

yes i do this also... its like punishing your bike when you hit it to 10-11K rpm...
