My encounter:

I travelled against traffic flow but not on purpose... I'm looking for a bike shop so didnt realize i was against traffic flow.. But i was travelling very slowly and by the side of the road.. When i saw an oncoming car den i realise...

I turn into a one way street as soon as i can and den a TP followed me in... I tried explaining but he wont give chance.

I'm trying to say when a killer is convicted.. There is 1st degree , 2nd degree, man-slaughter and even self-defence... But he simply condemn me... A-hole...

Biting on the fray of my hair, I muse upon the way to find the oasis of evermore beyond the vertical horizon, I shall join the windupdeads in owl city, neither my safetysuit nor my red jumpsuit apparatus can save me, cuz I mistook a death cab for cutie in plain white T's...

juz to add,

my experiences:

when i was 16, juz passd my license there was once when somehow, i did beat a red light at about 3am along Robinson Rd. Imagine my surprise when i heard a booming voice next to me : " HOI!!! YOU THINK THIS IS YOUR FATHER'S ROAD AHH !!!! CAN ANYHOW BEAT RED LITE!!!! " ... being new, i apologised profusely but as he let me off without a summons .. i really dun think much of the shouting that i got.

when i joined the traffic police after a few years doing normal policing, i can really feel the dislike among the driving/riding community againts tp. true, we issued summons and prosecute offenders in court but that is our primary duties, apart from attending to accident casses, managing heavy traffic in the event of faulty traffic lights ( imagine doing that on a heavy rainy day ..sux ! ), escorting VIPs , etc. so far for all my time there ... i can only say, sometimes, the way how the driver/rider reacts to being stopped ,matters also. try to figure the situation below ...

saw a car beat red light ... pulled him over

me: excuse me sir, could you please switch off ur engine and may i have ur driving license and nric pls?

driver ( a 50 yrs old man ) : i'm sorry sir, i was distracted just as i was about to turn and thought i was driving thru the amber light. i'm really sorry for what i did. wuold you be able to give me a chance in this instance?

my first instinct was to issue a summons for a straight cut offence but his courtesy and politeness at least convinced me to just issue a written and verbal warning.

comparing that to this:

saw a bike switching lane without signaliing, a car behind him had to brake to avoid colliding with him.

as i was on my way back to base, i had wanted to stop him and gave him only a verbal warning, not even a written one. but;

me: excuse me sir, could you please switch off ur engine and may i have ur driving license and nric pls?

rider: what i do wrong?

me: sir, i am stopping you for failing to signal while changing lane.

rider: i was changing lane what! wah lau, the car beside me was driving so fast and you also din not stop him. stop me only. see bike only you all summon. cars u dun want to summon! ( he was literally shouting at me )

peeved that i am, i took out the machine and issued him a summon for careless driving. said thanks and rode off.

i guess it cuts both ways also . there are those TP that are really rude but there are also some who are very courteous and polite.

but currently, from what i observed, the new ones now are very much arrogant and downright rude. those from my time, the old and experienced ones, were mostly into investigation now and i am seeing lots of new faces on the road everytime. and from all the time that i was stopped by these new officers, i find them plainly lacking in their customer service skills. :nono:

so it all boils down to ur luck on whom u get stopped by.

:goodluck:

TP sucks! Cos they dun smile at ppl. They treat all road users as traffic offenders or potential offender. Try smiling at them? The moment you do it, you will feel they sucks!!

and why does they have to smile at everyone?

do you smile at people you don't know when u ride? i think you have other things in mind to look out for and do during ur ride than to keep reminding yourself to smile at everyone and be seen like a goon on wheels.

:faint:

lemme ask u , what would u think if a TP smile at you while riding? if u say it will gives u an impression that TPs are friendly, well... bullshit.

even when TP approached traffic offenders by smiling, they are faulted as to being happy in summoning them but when they dun smile when they approached you , they are being blamed for being arrogant. so how?

Beating a Honda is like banging a fat chick. Everyone can do it but who wants to brag about it....

That is very immature behavior. Can you imagine how chaotic our roads will be without TP? I know they summon you, but they are not cold-blooded mindless summoning machines. They can be reasonable if you are polite and reasonable in the first place. If you get caught for blatantly breaking a law (like speeding more than 30kph above limit) then serve you right.

Do not make unsolicit presumption. The 29.96% voters does not attribute to 100% traffic offenders. As such, base on consensus, TP still sucks!! :puke:

I like to have TPs on our SG roads.

My encounters with them had so far been pleasant.

Just like us they are human beings except that they have their duty.

Their duty is traffic enforcement.

Maybe some of us got punished in some kind of a way.

If I am a bad roaduser. I rather accept punishment or rather a lesson learnt instead of getting arrogant and perish on the road.

If one day I get a ticket for traffic offence, I'll be most happy as long as the TP explains to me wat did I do wrong.

I'm not from TP but I do my share to summon roadusers for beating red light, careless driving even failing to signal intention to change lane.

:offtopic:

The only bike I summoned before was when I was off duty and wat made me do that was the idiot rider corner at a pedestrian crossing nearly hitting an old lady together with her grandchild, scaringly them. Exhibit ur skills without risking others.

TPs are doing a fine job...We need them to control our roads casuse some riders/drivers think they got license and pay road tax means they are entitled to ride/drive to their personal sastification without caring about other road users or the speed limits..speeding like there is no tomorrow and endangering others..so overall i think TP are doing a good job in maintaining order on the road
