Honestly though, a good steak pretty easy to do on your own. Just go to a good butcher to get a good cut. I normally go to Swiss Butchery at Bt Timah or the Espirito Santo at Thompson Rd.

i think there's one in the East oso~ siglap area.... but at some ulu road~~~~ :confused:

agreed with steppenwolf say, reli get a good cut from the butcher, e.g tenderloin, it got this buttery texture (wif nice marble of fats spreading across) wont be stiff and tough~ and without the need to add those artificate meat tenderiser :smile:

There's this place thats not quite what n00b has in mind but they serve fantastic steak.

Far East Shopping Centre (the one next to Liat Towers, not Far East Plaza)

Interior a bit dingy, lousy service but great steak. I recommend that you guys try the Shaslik steak.

Don't worry, I understand. I miss the steaks in Brisbane too.

 

Over there, best one I've tried is Caxton. Located at Caxton Hotel, Paddington. This restaurant won numerous awards for it's steak. Price is of course expensive. Go on tuesday. Price is 2 for 1. The price is charged to the expensive one. Very nice. Good thing my friend told me about it. I went there and had 2 plates. 1 500 gm rib eye (A$26 something) the other a 300 g t-bone (A$23- something)

 

The other place is Siesta. Used to called Fireworx. Ironically, their restaurant got burnt, so renamed to Siesta. Their steak also not bad. Located at Hotel Morrison, near South Bank.

rib eye is good as it got alot of buttery fat, spreading across the meat, so the meat is tender and do not need much marinate or spices~

 

as long as the tempt is right and wif the right wine sauce to highlight out its tenderness is good enough already :thumb: the pan temperature need to be real hot as it will reli locked its juice inside...

i love medium rare~

 

together with nice sweet baked potatoes of course~ :hungry:

I actually tried something like that 3 years ago. Cooked 2 pieces of steak with red wine. Cooked it medium-well. Very nice.

 

I didn't have potatoes though. The steaks already came close to 1 kg.....

 

After that, had to open the doors and windows. The smell didn't go away 'til the next morning...

I'm not too worry about it being tough and hard. I had some very good steak knives that sadly I didn't bring back. Wooden handle with serrated blade.

 

I think I had salad and vegetables to balance. I didn't get ill from eating too much meat. After all, there's always room for steak! :cheer: :hungry:

i will prefer the chinese style instead : stir fry beef stripes with vegetable (Kailan) cut the beef thin thin, marinate wif some cornstarch powder for tenderising and stir fry...

else geylang beef horfun also good! tender tender nice nice :thumb:

btw, bro johan, for you personally, any good place to recommend in sg for good steak yet affordable? :hungry:

Not at the moment. I have heard of one place though. That is Tanglin Club. Pity it's only for members. I heard that the steak there is a big generous serving. I haven't tried it yet. I can go in only with other members such as my mum and my sister. I'll apply for membership if I get my $20,000. :sian:

I'm only hungry for steak and fries. Yeah, I probably sound like a glutton, but only for steak and fries. Other than that, I eat the same serving size like everyone else.

 

Yeah, Tanglin Club is indeed high class. Don't worry about the cost. The cost for one of those generous serving steak is not too bad mainly due to subsidy from the club.

 

ok back to topic...

 

I still don't know about any other places that serve good, affordable steak.

my personal preference:

i wld prefer fish&chips or chicken in teriyaki sauce rather than whole chunk of beef....

I thought so... that would be suitable for you. Steak is an acquired taste. Not everyone would like it.
