ok. got your question.

if you're refering to the general public in singapore, i would say they do not consider unarmed combat skills as martial arts. over here in singapore, martial arts are meant for non-combat purposes. there are no (or very few) martial arts here in singapore that will teach you to fight people. when people talk about martial arts, names like TKD, judo, karate will come up. do correct me if i'm wrong.

think u r rite. dont c any where in sg got teach u to kock out(kill) ppl in the shortest posible way ie within 2-3secs.

jujitsu or aiki jitsu (grappling), they are more effective and deadly.. watched some ultimate fighting championship vidz and had seen most fighters uses grappling as part of their techniques..

agree with u that grappling techniques r very effective but u must also must first commit urself to the other party. especially difficult to execute if the other party is equally train. 'cos u'll be putting urself into equal risk. it takes alot of confidence to commit urself especially if the guys is equally train n bigger in size

jiujitsu & muay thai is indeed aggreesive n effective but for the general public...think too agreesive n painful to practice. think most ppl dont even 1 2 talk abt it :sian:

any1 here heard of Krav Maga? it is very popular in the Israel. seen it in action n ...pew! u need lots of balls to execute it. it practice the fastest way of knocking one's target down. it believes in just delivery 1 or 2 or at most 3 blows n it's all in the matter of a sec :lovestruck:

but again it's too agreesive n lots of pain to practice. for the public i doubt it will ever be allow to be taught here in SG :sian:

the JKD group in singapore is quite exclusive. they do not open for enrolment just like that. or at least enrolment is over.

Actually there is no official Jeet Kune Do group in singapore....if u want to learn Jeet Kune Do u can try contacting the Bruce Lee fan club and they will direct you to this Wing Chun Instructor who's trained in Jeet Kune Do....

Anyway nowadays its commonly agreed upon that no 1 martial arts is good enuff thus the prevalence of Mixed Martial Arts which i am a fan of. I started out learning Tae Kwon Do at the local community club but found out later that its fairly inneffective in real life situations or against other martial arts. Next was capoeira which i trained in for about a year but decided to quit coz its more of a dance plus by that time i was already past the "flashy moves" stage...i then took aikido and is now currently studying Submission Grappling and Muay Thai.....Jeet Kune Do really looks appealing so i might try that in the future.

As for Brazilian Jiujitsu n Muay Thai too aggresive...not really. If u have a good instructor he will make sure u learn within your limits. For me at the very most its extremely tiring....as in "cant walk up stairs for 2 days after training" kinda tired :giddy: BTW....gracie jiujitsu haven't won a match since dunnoe how long so its not really the king in MMA :thumb:

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

i know of a group in singapore that does JKD. official or not, i don't know. But they do have a master of JKD that teaches them.

I'm hoping to take up muay thai soon. Currently doing ninjado (taking it more as a CCA and not really training seriously as a martial art)

I guess we're talking about the same group then :cheeky: ITs funny how i met one of them....go thru the martial arts section at borders then this guy suddenly came to me n say "Grappling fan eh?"....LOL

Anyway i hope ur not offended but i feel ninjado is crap.....children's version of ninjutsu, they basically filtered most of what makes ninjutsu unique....

no worries dude, not offended. also have plenty of things to say about ninjado. :bouncefire:

to correct some of the things you said, ninjado is NOT related to ninjutsu in any way. it's not even a children's version. compared to ninjutsu, ninjado is considered relatively new (i think probably only 30+ years) i believe ninjado was created by a non-japanese however it was given the name to create an illusion that it was related to ninjutsu.

beruk & comic, wat martial arts are ya guys learning now??

can i join in??

i'd been wanting to pick back some self defense skills after so many years of inactive TKD..

i want something like street fighting.. be it unorthodox or not..

when both parties are struggling and rolling on the ground.. how shud one react in this kind of situation..

for JKD, i felt one need to execute each move very accurately, as the name suggest.. it means the art of interception.. kinda fun when i used subconciously during tkd sparring..

just as the opponent lifts his leg to execute a kick, it can be intercepted

with just a short throw of the leg..

anyone heard of intercepting hapkido? it's some sort of a combination of

tkd & aikido.. for mid range, they'll use kick and for short range, they will use lock..

anyway here are 2 website about hapkido

I'm currently learning Mixed Martial Arts at the MMA Academy at north canal road....

It's essentially Muay Thai + Submission wrestling.....Submission Wrestling consists of Brazilian Jiujitsu, Russian Sambo, Greco-roman wrestling, Vale Tudo and my instructor also adds techniques n strategies from Hapkido, Aikido n kali/escrima

:sorry: ok ok...

taekwondo till junior black - it's like fast draw with legs

silat i get to qualify for the national team - loved the sweeping and leg catching action.

aikido during NS - the hand techniques is good.

now my favourite sport is BEDminton hehehe :faint:

someone was mentioning bout jujitsu... i think they teach it at tanglin cc or something... lots of other martial art practioners are learning it.

It's looks quite deadly but if used in real life situation easpecially in sg

i tink hmmm the kick and run method really works :faint:
