hi all, please advise me on this. i've just got a katana125.

Stock sprocket is 14T/37T 2.64 ratio. When i got the bike already on 15T/37 2.46 ratio.

Pickup is still decent, 3rd gear can go 100kph,BUT 4th gear, engine dun have power to pull any more, the most 110,or downslope 120kph max.

If i go back to higher ratio, can 4th gear pull alittle more speed since engine may still in its power range b4 power drops off at higher rpm?

i do not need more pickup as i know if i use higher ratio, i have to change gear more faster, which i do not want.

Another question is the bike's speed sensor is at the sprocket area, if i change sprocket will it affect speed accuracy?

Bike always backfire when close throttle at high speed.Whats wrong? mech say stock sliencer broken inside is the cause.Jetting checked(plug is brown)

I'm a DIY person, so i can do it myself, but new to cubs, need some advise from lau jiaos here.

Thanks for reading, please advise.

then change the front back to original size and drop 1 teeth to 36 for the rear.. back fire usually happens because the setting of air fuel ratio not balanced.. you can go to your trusted mech and let him tune it for you..

My 125Z used to have the opposite problem - gear change every 2 seconds and super quick acceleration but if I want to cruise at highway speeds, I had to run at 7000+ RPM.

So against the good advice of my mototiam I ordered them to change the sprockets to 19 (front) /37 (rear). A good speed of 120kph (indicated) could now be attained at an economical 6000RPM!

Great for flying downhill up to 160 (with pillion!!!) but having to drop gear every uphill stretch of highway was a chore so we changed the back sprocket up to 39 which was optimal for the rest of the bike's life. Indeed, going uphill on the BKE was more efficient on 6th gear because the engine was producing max power.

You can do a similar inexpensive sprocket change as suggested above to attain your preferred performance range.

However, your current low gearing is great for economy because you can always use the first 3 gears to accelerate fast then cruise at stupendously low RPMs on the highways for better FC. It's like my 125Z using the "no power" 19/37 config.

What gear ratio should I put for my big bore spark??

What big bore??? size? try playing with ur sprock ratio, final gear ratio or internal ratio should just leave it as it is... Unless you planning to go Pasir Gudang...

gear ratio meaning size of your spocket ???

Hmmm, gear ratio as i know is the gearing teeths inside... Sprock ratio is the teeths outside...

Sprock ratio compared to a car set up can also be called the final ratio..... hehehe... hope that helps...

Shoya, on the track and beyond,

we will always follow your lines.

I'm using a 63mm bore. Still thinking of what spocket size to use for the front n back :(

depends individual like the rider/pillion weight, tire size, what kind of track ect.

basically refer back your stock sprocket size.

most important thing is find the best sprocket size for individual, not one time job.......have to try and error..

:)
