Heyos, all.

Am thinking of sending my GSR600 for a proper PC3 mapping and dyno-run.

Total mileage on the odometer is 36000km (its my daily transport / touring/ weekend posing bike in one).

Should I send it for a valve clearance / servicing checkup first or is it ok to ignore it and do the dyno / mapping straight up?

Everything else is done: sparks, filter, oil + filter, TB synchronization and TPS calibration, etc.

Only left chain & sprocket replacement the month after next.

I'm asking coz I'm getting mixed opinions here. Some say I need to do due to mileage as recommended by Suzuki.

Some say no need coz its only 36000km.

Opinions?

Typically, valve clearance inspection is to be done every 12000km or every 24 months which ever comes first. Checking the valve clearance is easy, correcting the valve clearance is not, especially for those using shims, and for sportsbike, more things to remove.

Logically, the bike has to be in tip-top condition prior to dyno, otherwise the dyno will be useless. Of course, unless you want to measure the performance gained before and after valve correction.

Suzuki's are known to have naturally noisy clicking sounds.

Something to do with the Denso injectors.

Out of curiousity, I tried calling up Guan Hoe (agent) and asking for their opinion. They gave me the same figure several mechanics also tell me : 70000km.

While I know some are avoiding them like the plague, they are still the agent for Suzuki and I'll be somewhat covered should they screw up something.

So I requested to come down and ask them to give my bike an evaluation if it needs a valve job.

Maybe go down at lunch time...

You will need to check your valve clearances at the recommended intervals, especially the first couple of times. This is when your valves have properly seated themselves.

Noisy valves are actually not so bad. It's those valves with too tight clearances that you should be worried about. Too little clearance may lead to burnt valves. And too tight valves gives NO noise.

well, just to share, my vtec is 8yr old done 138 000km before i do valve clearance. to have a peace of mind, i did at a reputable shop and the mechanic told me only one valve is off clearance. it's not that expensive and it took 3 days..

imo, if u ride normally, if ur mileage is not more than 100 000km, you dun have to do it. if u own a sportbike and everytime whack at track, then at 40 000km, u might consider. every bike tend to be a little bit noisy at 35 000km

138,000km!!! Did you check your valve seats? Maybe they got so tight for so long that they grinded themselves back to spec...

I did a valve clearance checking and adjustment 2 weeks ago, my bike has 11,000km on the odometer and 7 out of 8 valves need a thicker shim. A quick check on the clearance to confirm that they are within the specs can save a lot of guess work :thumb:

Neways, Guan Hoe said said it would be better to just do one.

They quoted me a very reasonable price.

So I'll think I'll just go have it done mid-October after I'm back from my ICT. After Hari Raya that is.

How much they charge? I need to do mine too.

i think you should do it bro. Short maintainance is better than major repairs.

Unfortunately, bro, I lost Ah Lai's contact.

Try asking Roy. He had his bike done there also. He may still have Ah Lai's number.

wads is the price for doing valve clearance?

Depends.

You have to go around to ask.

Different model of bikes have varying level of difficulty depending on their design.

I got mine done at the Suzuki agent for less than $100 but had to wait for an extra day as they didn't have the correct shim sizes and had to special-order some.
