actually i find the current IU unit and cashcard system very prone to theft.

They should do it like the season parking system, the amount will not be stored in a cashcard but instead in an "account" which is tied to your IU unit/vehicle registration no., so theres nothing to steal. Payment by GIRO or whatever.

If you could post your survey findings, maybe we can send it to LTA or whoever and see if something can be done about this.

Cannot lah... they invested so much money on producing the money eating gadget that we call the IU unit. They must have millions of these money eating gadgets lying around in a warehouse somewhere. a letter is not going to stop them cos they simply have too many IUs to stop the system.. Wasting out taxpayer's money also..

From past experiences, using something (eg. sticker) to cover the IU unit actually will help abit.

Last time always forgot to take, then kenna stolen.

Now got sticker, forgot to take but most of the time I go back take still there..

:cheeky:

If today was perfect there would not be a need for tomorrow.

No use, ppl can still see your cashcard from top :sian:

unless u paste the top as well :sweat:

i saw a few IU with their cover in paint :smile:

this probably may help as ppl can't see at all but not very nice

its no use...

cashcard is jus like normal cash...once lost is lost...

i went thru the same process also...called NETS and was told the card cannot be refunded...

anyway after tinking about it i boh pian gotta agree with NETS...if one monkey jus quote ur cashcard number n imagine ur card value jus disappear go into the monkey account...

Thx so much for all your replys....

Ya i agree that the current design of the IU is very much prone to theft.

I very often forget to take my cash card from the iu and ended up losing it though there are times where i am lucky and the card is still there when i am back.

Wondering if its possible to have a reminder where everytime when we off the engine and if the cash card is still in IU, there could be a tune or watever to remind us. Might be a great help.:cheer:

The IU for bike is really a bad idea, besides the goverment say that IU is there so that u pay when u need to enter the restricted zone so as to control heavy traffic. But on my part i dun see how a bike can make any difference as( be frank lar ) we also squeese thru traffic. Only cause more theft by putting IU for bikes besides make bikes looks ugly especially on sports bikes :mad:

Got money, who dun want...

One bike $1 for entering CBD or ERP one time. Imagine let say 1000 bikes/times per day... one month 20 days x $1000 per day...

I had lost my cash card once in the CBD. During that time,I parked my bike in the carpark forgot to remove my cash card and cover it with a bike cover and went for an interview. Thought the bike was covered, and it would be safe. But.......in the end it gone.... the thief had opened up the cover, take the card and cover the bike back.

So now I had a pratised, check the IU before I leave. Just spend less than 2 seconds check it, better than spend 15mins and $12 get a new one

When I drove in Aust Melb..

Their vehicles have this little device for electronic TOLL payment also.

The size is about L=60mm, H=50mm T+20mm. Which is much smaller than ours. This device is link to the owner bank acc. So the payment will directly from bank acc..

One disadvantage is, if someone stole the device... He/she can use for TOLL payment also... The owner of the device got to make a police report, inform the bank cancel the payment, inform Road Authority etc. Which is more troublesome than lossing a cash card.

after i did this little mod to my card n keychain holder i've not lost a single card for the past 8 mths n it will never be lost or stolen again..... here's how it goes...

things u needs

1) a large needle(sewing )

2) a short length of fishing lines(10-12lb lines thickness will do)

3) a small swivel clip (get frm thoese who goes fishing)

instruction for installation:

1) use a plier hold the needle over the fire ffrom your kitchen stove heat it up till it's red hot quickly burn a hole at the top right hand corner of your cash card(the part that is facing top right when it's in the IU)

2) Next secure 1 end of the fishing line to the eye of the swivel clip n attach the swivel clip to the hole made in the cash card.

3) slot the cashcard into the IU, slot in your bike key with the keychain holder,measure the length of lines from the cashcard(in the IU) to your keychain holder with some slack n cut it off.

4) Tie the other end to your keychain holder

n voila!!!! there u have it.... when u remove your keys it is link to your card n u'll never 4get your card coz it's kept in your keychain holder. and if u ever 4got to slot it in no prob manzzzzzz.............. it's there all u have to do is just stop your bike remove it your holder linked by the lines n just slot it into your IU no fumbling in your wallet n etc.....

topping up is no prob just unclip it that's all

no harm will be done to the card coz the hole is just a pinprick n exposed

been like this for me for the past 8mths 100% wun be stolen anymore if it dun work come look me up

if not sure how to do it i can show u mine n tell u how to do it over kopi

if u need lines n clip n dun know where to get it i can give it to u for free just blanja me kopi lolz.....

basically, it's where you left your cashcard..

i left my cashcard inside my IU, with leather cover, for a while at PS.. after realising i forgot my cashcard, i return to my bike, cashcard gone.. less than 5 mins.. i lost most of my cashcard in PS..

at other places, i returned after a couple of hours, still there.. even if i didnt close my leather cover properly, my cashcard still there..

it's just about whether the itchy hands are around or not.. for me, if i see a cashcard in a IU, either slot it under the seat or safekeep and hide somewhere in his bike and fold a note in his IU..

I've yet to lost mine hehe. I always make it a habit to do a last check on my bike for anything before I leave it. I, however, do wish that since we aren't gonna be doing away with iu units soon, get a much smaller-sized iu unit.

Current Rides:

FEB 07 -> NOV 08 [CBR 150]

AUG 08 -> AUG 12 [XJR400]

AUG 12 -> ??? [DUCATI MONSTER 696]

One cashcard of mine got stolen few years back due to forgetfulness. After that always remind myself to check the IU before leaving the bike.
