dont know, see how.

I dont think parts are the issue. Can get on internet.

but since Mah is the agent, i probably go back there.

The engine is actually very simple straight 3.

And the carbs are Mikuni.

Many mechs can do it.

Besides Yellow, the angmoh and now me, who else owns a thunderbird in Singapore?

Not trying to form any club here, but good to share info.

Actually Thunderbird should not come under cruisers becos it is more a roadster-style like CB750, GSX1100, Zephyr750,

My thunderbird not done up yet.

I havent even collected it .....

i usually dont buy from shop becos, dealers blow a lot of hot air.

this time, it's becos someone from the forum is doing the deal and it's not a lot of money involved so I said OK.

hope I dont get disappointed.

For the Mikuni carbs, you can approach an old uncle (there are 2) at Yamaha Hong Leong who is well versed with according to a source from my friend.

Four wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul.

Quick Review

=========

Ride comfort - fair for short distance city riding but on long hauls maybe a fuller seat is better. riding position has been altered using short handlebar to give a sportier feel.

Handling - acceptable considering the forks and rear sus are a little soft due to age. no wobbling and quite well balanced although can feel some weight in front

dur to after market rims with sports tyre. lowered sports handlebar improved handling a great deal compared to original. cornering tested at 70 - 90 km/hr

Acceleration - cruiser like and pretty torquey, with wide gear range.

100km/hr with 4500 rpm. excellent for city and expressway riding.

Sound and feel - throbs at low rpm and smoothens out at higher rpm. very unique exhaust note but clearly roadster sounding. medium bass with slight whine when revved hard. Engine cound is loud and clutch plates are even louder.

Fuel Consumption - 10km/liter for city riding and about 14km/liter for half city half highway. Good enuff for me.

So far so good and very enjoyable riding experience. Iconic with cult status and nostalgic looks

Looks like I'll be keeping this for a long time...

1.5 hours! :giddy:

Bro, get some fresh tyres man! And seriously, I'd consider getting the clutch line replaced.

Your front caliper is droolz material though... :lovestruck:

Yes I did get the front tyre replaced....

probably go down soon for an all round oil change and check. the engine is really loud, I cant tell if it is from the clutch plates....

They all sound this loud don't they? Wait till you hear my bike with its dry clutch and vented clutch cover!

Posted

of course for Duc is different. becos dry clutch. but for thunderbird wet clutch multi plate should not be that loud.

anyway, tomorrow i will have to bring it down for carb retuning.... black smoke coming out of my left exhaust, man....:giddy:

want to do a proper service.

spark plug change

oil filter change

oil change

carb tuning

and yes, it is leaking. looks like the gasket seal is old and dried out.

do you have the replacement parts?

http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/4128/demimoore2fi.jpg

Carb tuned up and oil leak stopped by changing o-ring.

bike is smoother and does not have any flat spots now and power delivery is better

black smoke signalling over rich mixture is corrected

however, idling is not perfect and throttle response not as sharp it seems.

mech explains that it is due to the rubber hoses leading to the carbs being old.

will ride it a little more and see how it goes.
