JUST TO SHARE, PLS NO FLAME!!!

i noticed this with alot of R6 06/07 riders especially, but this myth has been going on for a long time.

Alot of us, the moment we encounter head shake or tank slapper, the first thing we do is install a damper.

IS THE DAMPER THE SOLUTION?

does this mean that factory produced R1, K7 1000, CBR 1000, ZX10 with Ohlins damper will all encounter headshake if the damper was removed?

ARE YOU GUYS AWARE THAT IF YOUR SUSPENSIONS ARE NOT DIALLED IN PROPERLY, YOU CAN ENCOUNTER ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS, especially with a light bike?

search the net to find out how to do basic preload adjustments.

and before you do any, use that method to measure your stock settings. and see how far off you go. remember, readings go in mm

my advice is go for the race fairing first

Amba.. not re-flaming back, actually to add on to your advise.

I agree to your alternative reason in terms of suspension setup. I believe I did mention some backdated post, on ZERO suspension setup and did a stupid trial n the second day of R6 ownership. Big mistake. After proper setting up, (ride sag, fcompression n rebound etcetc) yes... headshakes were much reduced but not adequate for constant top speed riding (sorry amba... But I have less track experience to you..I am more into NS-highway n B-roads where road condition differs quite a bit)

Like I mentioned, track wobbles differs greatly from road wobbles especially on b-roads, so I am geared towards aggressive street riding comments. Pardon me for not mentioning earlier.

A race fairing was also my priority list within bike ownership. But there are some whose bikes are mainly for transport also, which getting into the law is not cheap either.

So its good that we both brought out our experiences in aid of new riders in both bike settings & components decision.

PS:by the way i just saw MJ'z bike on the latest issue of motor culture... I'd say.... the paintwork stands out man! Kudoz! :thumb:

Thank You.

but why the race fairing first ?

any reasons behind it ?

Blackdot, prior to the previous post, a race fairing does a fair bit in $$ saving if you keep crashing.

Some race fairing are of pretty good quality that withstands a fair bit of crashes much better than the OEMs(they are never cheap... not to mention the waiting on orders). Note that the new R6 is a whopping 13 pieces excluding the front fender n rear mudguards. Of course the resale value might be slightly better on OEM fairings.

Another main reason is the probability of "killing" your OEM lamps/mounting in a crash, and that would probably set you a few hundred buckeroos easily. OUCH.

So if your main use of the R6 is track, or if you frequent track often... yes... the race fairing would be a good choice in becoming priority. Else its gonna be a BIG magnet for ROV as a commuter bike.

Thank You.

Hope I get tour drift correctly Chubb. The red looking coolant is Cool-aide by Maxima. I have seen it at many bikes shop. It might help if you drop by the advertisers board under MAXIMA RACING OILS, where a list of dealers availability is indicated. you should able to find a nearest dealer near you maybe.

I have personally tried that coolant on VFR (V4 engine with 2 radiators) and an 06R6. i had pretty good results from it. On average, the equilibrium running temperature is cooler by almost 2degress. note that you will not see the results on a start stop traffic in any coolant as rate of heat exchange is not at "stable state". i find the cooling effect most apparent when moving off to a steady speed, it cools much faster.

Hope the above helps...

Cheers in your 07R6.. and welcome to the R6 family!

thank u AR2.. i juz found out e coolant brand.. its redline water wetter..

my friend, crashing is inevitable.....either on your own or somebody superfly into u.

the cost to repair your stock isnt worth. futhermore, its easier for servicing as well.

when u start pushing urself harder, ur lean angle gets lower, ur tyre starts to spin(not skid or slide), anything can happen.

Don't just break your laptimes, SHATTER them!!

I second this..no point get damper if u don even not familiar with ur suspension..(i'm not too familiar with mine either..heheheh)Cause ur damper oso need to be set/click to ur prefered riding..

if u don know that too..that its juz to make ur bike look nice accesories only..

Cause the R6 is a brilliant bike to go on highways corners, small winding roads & not to forget the all READY TRACK!!!

a few sg riders, myself, rein, and wayne were not using dampers. we were still on stock suspensions. having said that, i also ride up to sepang without a single wobble.

but when i ride my GF r6, suspension not adjusted at all....i find it very difficult to ride......the bike doesnt want to counter steer at low speeds.

ya man....i was so rushing that i didnt had time to set the damper. 5th rider rode my bike for 2 laps and said the damper very hard, and set it to 0 click which was the softest. and i was pretty much on that the whole day.

why i put damper,.........i dunno..........i thought that would give the extra edge........apparently not

to me.. the steerin damper is a safety device.. and not a performance item.. but its ability in preventin the tankslapper alone is enuff reason for me to get one..

A damper not only acts as a safety device, it provides a higher confidence to ride better, hence faster. (provided the suspensions are settled.)

Thank You.
