Gen2 is a nice looking car, and it's performance is reasonable. Practically, it is of a nice size, boy racer image yet can take 4 passengers comfortably with a generous boot.

The worry part is that Proton is losing alot of money, and their latest talk with VW has collapsed, and there are no other suitors. Even in Malaysia, Proton market share has been reduced to less than 30% despite imported brands, such as Toyota which are heavily taxed.

Their production capacity is not optimised so to contain their losses, they will be forced to cut some corners, and morale in Proton can't be high at this moment. Inevitably, this will affect the quality.

My question to you is that are you comfortable to buy a car from a maufacturer who is on the blink of collapsing financially.

Demon: True, I've also heard stories regarding the company and the financial issues they're facing. However, am just wondering. Will it affect me in any ways, after I've purchased the vehicle? Perhaps just a lower resale value?

I find it ok. But very sticky gear shift. Noisy ride. But pretty stable. Drove a 1.6Auto from KL to Penang some time ago. And my neighbor has a 1.6Manual.

oomg bro, civic lancer altis are all much much better than gen2..

We're talking about that cat not car quality. You compare a 2L turbo car with the Gen2 no link right? If ppl ask about comfort level of say a Cefiro, den I tell him RR Phantom better.. Stupid right? Quality aside, Civic, Altis, Lancer, Avante etc are close comparison to Gen2 size and displacement wise..

Hi bro, I am a GEN2 Owner. Currently driving a 1.6 Auto.

Yes the car looks nice BUT, the fuel consumption is high, at least for me. FYI, my car's engine is stock. Nothing is done to the engine etc. Just sharing, from full tank mark to the 3/4 mark on the fuel gauge, the max I can clock is only about 110 to 120 km. So not worth it if you intend to fuel up it JB. From full tank to reserve (light comes on), I can only clock about 350km max. This is for my normal daily driving. To me, this is crazy, comparing to an Altis etc. Only once when I was travelling along the high way, all the way, I managed to get around 450km. I believe the main reason for the high fuel consumption is because the car is damn heavy. This also causes the car to have quite a slow pick up.

The good thing about the car is, as it is very heavy and low, it feels very steady on the NS Highway, at high speed. You also drive with more confidence.

The noisy engine sounds as if you have an open pod air filter installed. Some of you may like the sound, some may not. After I changed the stock tyres (15" SIME Tyres) to a 16" low profile Yokohama 'A' Drive, my drive seems more quiet, except for the 'open pod filter' like sound. I tried cornering at the Bukit Panjang exit from BKE at about 110km/hr using the tyres and I must say it is very stable.

You may want to do a read up at our GEN2club forum before you decide to buy one. Weigh the pros and cons before you decide. Don't forget bro, the price of petrol is rising steadily. Are you ready to fork out the extra dollar for your petrol?

My neighbor's Gen2 1.6 Manual getting 12km/l.. Normal driving 50% city 50% highway, max 95km/h on highway.. So it's considered quite high for a manual 1.6L car.. I agree that stability is pretty good.. oh ya, Auto verison doesn't come with OD button too(the one I drove to penang doesn't have) . But it come with steering wheel controls which is great.. Strangly Malaysian models need Ron 95 or above.. local I think 92 and above

no offence for those owning GEN2, i drove one before the sports version auto, the pick up is so damn slow that even a hyundai getz or wira can smoke it. hahaha

but my fren told me he drove the car back to KL wif a constant speed of 160kmph, the car is stable.

hi bro i currently driving a gen2 M.

jus to give u some advice before u decide to buy the car.

firstly,gen2 is nice in the outlook,to add on,if u wan to modifed(both interior and exterior) i can sae it can save u lots of money as u jus nid to prepare ur passport to croos the broder to jb.

it has high fc yes because the car is heavy, pick up is slow, but the car is stable, mani of my friends are surpised to feel the "stableness" wen i did a corner at high speed.regarding the fc,it really depends on how u floor ur accerlerator, for my ride i am able to clock 420km until the fuel light is on,plus my ride is with an open pod set up.some of my friends are able to even clock up to 500km.because mine is an opc car so i normally drive only in the night and mayb that is one of the reason y it never makan more petrol as its more cooling.

although gen2 has a low pick up but its high range is quite surprising,i am able to reach 190km on my way to kulai via second link with 3 more passengers in my ride.the passengers didnt noe i was at 190km.hr until they sae the speedometer and thus u can see how stable it is.normally for car u cant get the power completely meaning if u wan to have low range den ur high range have to suffer unless ur driving a lambo den it will b a diff story.

these are jus my 2cents its still up to u to decide ^^.
