dunt know if this thread has been posted b4 ....but because its damn difficult to register an account in arofanatics i decided to open up one thread here to ask for info .

i got some questions to ask

i have a 2ft planted tank and some cardinal and cherry shrimps ...temperature hits a constant 30 ...how do i bring the temperature down w/o resorting to chillers ? ( 2 out of 5 of my shrimps are already dead )

how to know if oxygen level if enough ? im currently using a ehiem cannister filter with rain bar which is under the water level ...was told that its ok to put rain bar under the water ..still will have oxygen

what level of PH should i be aiming for ?

i think u can check out aqua quotient if i remember correctly.. u can cool down by install 2-3 fans on the surface of the water.. but it will increase the evaporation rate meaning u need to top up water more often..

those 12vdc computer fans will do the job with abit of DIY..

rain bar under the water its because u want to keep co2 that u have injected into the tank to stay for a longer time.. if ur not injecting co2, its good to put the bar above water.. temp will lower as well..

but i think oxygen level ermm.. still will have.. if your fishes are not dying means its should be quite okie.. depends on the bio load of ur tank as well.. if its super crowded with fishes the oxygen might not be enough... but if ur cardinal tetras are eating and living well.. u should be quite safe for now..

ph level i cant really help , so sorry...

those 12vdc computer fans will do the job :)

Always wanted to do a planted tank but really do not have the expertise and time. Only have 2 4ft tanks and a FGT housing 3 aros in each of the tanks.

Its always a dream to have a 6x2x2 planted tank. But I guess I'll never have the time and chance to do it. :(

Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Another option of lowering the temperature is freezing a sealed test-tube with ice and place it in the tank. Change the test tube every 12 hrs, if the tank is not in direct sunlight, it can lower the temp slightly. (No, of tubes used depends on size of tank)

If your tank hits a constant 30 deg, maybe you would consider a differnt type of shrimp as cherry shrimps need a rather cold enviroment to trive.

Chillers are not recommened in most homes as it consumes a lot of electricity, and as it is a temperature device it can raise the temperature in your surrounding very significantly.

same here....i also had a 2ft planted tank.....can say the cardinal and shrips can be sensitive to changes....mine the 2ft and another 4ft arowana tank had auto feeders....so when i msia for 2 days, came back just to see all the fishes floating....den seems that the house fridge had some short circuit, causing the main switch board to off....so all the airiation system and filter system offed also:giddy:

den restarted recently about 3mths ago...2ft planted tank but with 8 lionhead goldfishes,so much so,that usually i off the filter for their makan time ,so that the food will not get sucked to the filter....so while rushing off, forget to on,came back to see all the 8 gone -_-

so the lesson learnt...changes even for short term can be fatal to the fishes....:cheeky:

There is nothing more beautiful than a serene underwater landscape, with the flora and fauna in perfect harmony.

I take my ideas from Takashi Amano. But it is almost impossible to copy the master.

Here's a few shots of my old aquascapes.

p.s. If Arofanatics sucks, try AquaticQuotient.

i choose not to agree.. chillers are very effective in lowering the temperature.. and from wat i gathered from my uncles who are still into planted tanks..

you can get them at $300 +/-

they used to be selling at above 1k... so i guess its a good time to invest in one..

they are the best long term solution imho...

regarding electricity, its normal.. same with lights... usually used with timers.. to cut in/out when needed.. but yeah it does consume quite abit of power..

Chillers are indeed very efective in lowering the temperature in your tank. However, to get 1 at $300++.... "Made in China" one right?
