first you gotta decide if you want a dual purpose bike or a tourer.

besides the functionality of these bikes, my concern here is the maintenance for these bikes ....

Initially i was considering between these 3 bikes, plus FJR13.

Gave up FJR13 as i prefer something not 'inline' haha

Finally settled with buying the reliable ST11. Maintenance wise, its similar to the STX.

Actually the expensive part of maintenance is its 'man hour' costing.

For example, changing of a clutch cable is $100 for Japanese bike, for beemers, would cost $100 + $xx (manhours) :giddy:

I am the owner of a STX. My profile is I ride the STX daily in Singapore; rides to Malaysia average once a month; besides northsouth riding, I like riding twisty trunk roads. Below are some of my reviews of STX to help you make a more informed decision:

Getting a Beemer bike is like Driving a Beemer,,,

It depends on how U wanna ride a bike,,if u prefer adventure touring ,,,get a GS. A GS road handling is superb compared to St or STX when it comes to twisty roads but on a highway, some 400cc bike might overtake u easily.

For my case,,i've gt 2 GS til now cos I'm already sianz of speeding along the highway.

Spare parts for a Beemer are quite ex here but maintenance wise,I feel that its the same as any other bike. A GS does not need a high grade engine oil,,it prefers minerals. I did my own maintenace for my GS & I find that its the easiest and cheapest compare to my previous Japanese bikes. Maintenace for a Beemer is much cheaper when compared to a Ducati,,I'm note sure hw the maintenace for a ST / STX.

Try riding on one before U decide.......:) :) :)

I think a new STX OTR now is around 27-28K, much cheaper than a couple of yrs ago. If u think of getting new STX, know that there is a face-lift version coming out. Looks the same to me, except with LED tail lights.

For preowned ones, for STX bikes yr 2 and onwards, based on my shopping experience, we are looking at 2.5K-3K per year cost depreciation and it is pretty linear.

08 STX got LED tail light and face lift? May I know where do you get the news, interested to know more.

I am looking for a new STX, but the news release recently in Hondanews never mention that there is a face lift and LED tail light, the only thing change is the side covers below the rider are changed to one whole piece instead of half.

I read it from one of the earlier posts on STX1300 in this forum and I also replied back. Someone posted the link to the site where there was even photos of the bike (not concept bike picture).

On my 3-yr old STX, if you are referring to the side pockets in the front fairing, are already one whole piece.

Bro endlessloop, I'm riding a blackbird now and very gian the STX. But just wondering, is the STX hot when sitting still in traffic?

Another thing, my BB doesn't like to idle in stuck traffic, the temperature will go up very fast, even with the fan blowing. How's the STX like in this regard? If you were stuck in traffic for 20 - 30 mins, will the radiator fan be able to take care of keeping engine temperature down?

Thanks!

I don't have a problem with my STX on heat. The STX is a performance-touring-luxury-comfort bike. Coming from a BB, you will feel a high level of comfort riding on a STX. Heat should be the last of your concern to buy a STX or not.

The STX's touring-oriented lower fairing helps to deflect the stream of hot air vented out of the side pockets. Most other fully faired bikes lower fairings in front of your legs have gaps to the engine bay. The STX's thick leg fairings are fully blocked, like those of BMW1200GS. Means the hot air does not vent to your legs.

Having said that, you will not totally feel no heat from the STX engine. But unless you are reminded of it, you will not notice it.

I don't recall feeling any discomfort in any slow traffic 30 min ride during peak hours. So should not be a problem.
