Its pinging, and yes it can be due to running too lean.... don't ride fast till you've either a) figured out how to look at your jetting... (tools needed are two screwdrivers... one is + type the other - type) or B) wait until the meetup for indepth explanation....

Don't go fast, you may seize!!!!

Hey sharpey, this pinging sound is it like whistling-like sound? cos mine seems to have it. When is the outing? Can i join u guys so tt i can learn a thing or two? i am a freaking newbie.. please help..

-=fire gives life but to also take them away=-

a faulty cdi is a likely cause of engine troubles like you describe.... no idea how much they cost though. Have heard that they sometimes last ages, sometimes break fast... its your luck .... you'll be able to get a second hand one, but to be sure of quality get a new one...

pinging is best described like this...

it sounds like the noise when you rattle a spraypaint can...

It sounds like there's a ballbearing in your engine that is dancing around....

If this is what you're hearing, then its the dreaded ping!

If left untreated it can lead to seizure, or, over time, a holed piston...

Ping exists in two forms on our scoots...

1St is that which is caused by incorrect ignition timing or too high compression... this ping occurs when accelerating or going uphills... it's the deadly one...

2nd is the ping that occurs at low revs, like when cruising along and not putting the engine under load... The cause of this I'm still not crystal clear on, most people haven't experienced it, and thus most don't know how to remedy it.... Things that have worked for me include richening the air corrector (top part of the main jet stack) .. lower number here= richer.

Also, it might help if you richen your idle circuit (done by turning the brass screw that protrudes out of the back of the carb airbox) Turing clockwise leans, turning anticlockwise richens.

Am still learning with regards to the above... after putting on my pinasco i'm once again having to deal with it!!! ARGHHHH...

thanx sharpey for your help...

mine is using a NGK b8es sparkplug (like what you stated)

took the sparkplug out just now..

it was the 2 time in 2 days for me..

but 4 times since i've first touched the scoot.

also had to change my front brake lever just now..

$2 for 2nd hand..

fell in the IKEA tamp motorcycle lot just now..

so if you guys happened to see a guy wearing a pink polo with a black scoot just now, it was me....

i think it may not be pinging but more of the exhaust rattling....

& i don't think i'll be touching my carb just yet....

waiting for someone to testride my scoot n see if there really is a problem first.

oh and sharpey, i think you may need to bring the watchamakallits to the meetup...

i'll pay for anything i use....

Sounds like you're making progress... glad that you've got the right plug in there too....

Carparks are notoriously slippy... watch out for them... as well as metal drain covers! Avoid these like the plague!!!

As for you paying for stuff.....My labour is free

We can have a look at your jetting at the meetup... if you need a richer main jet, it'll only cost you $6 or so.

No worries, I'll bring my whatchamacallits

itsonfire, yeah i think the CDI may be the problem to what you have desricbe....go get it checked....your mechanic may also check on the coil....

Dont noe the price though....

For the meetup, just check the previous post....it's on 12th Jan at this prata place opposite former NIE....

cephelix, the rattling sound may seem harmless now but if it's pinging, you gotta be real careful cos it may lead to piston seizure.....

if it is not pinging, the rattling noise may be due to your pinasco block outlet that connects to your exhaust....

this kit is made from alloy and is light and the metal slightly soft....due to vibration of our scoots, the outlet connecting to the exhaust may become smaller after sometime hence it will cause a ratlling sound.....

this is a common problem faced when we use pinasco alloy block....

I once faced this problem on the road and the exhaust almost drop out....phew!!!

luckily i was riding slow and manage to tighten before i head to the bikeshop....

What the bike shop does is that they will use a metal ring (don't know how to describe but it is those that we use to tighten water tap and hose but a much bigger version) that secures the exhaust and block together.....

Hoping to find a scootershop up here one day, prices are sure to be low

Oh, and incidently, exhaust falling off is more of an issue on 150 engines than on 200s... this is because the 200cc exhaust attaches at an angle, unlike the vertical 150... Just something to bear in mind.

how much would that cost?

and where to get piaggio clutch cables?

n price?

bought R2 2T for $13 is it the correct price?

thinking that i may have bought a wrong one...

2% 2T is needed right?

R2 is fully synthetic?

oh really? didnt know that cos i tot the logic works the same way since the material used in the alloy kit is the same...

hmmm...different angle...haiz...so it's the problem only for 150s.....

another thing learned...

cephelix,

rear light casing? i know which one you are talking about but there are quite a number of design....which one are you referring to?

Clutch cable can be brought at any scooter shop...i think it cost only a few bucks...

just get the castrol R2, on the bottle it states fully synthetic..the price is around there...

yes....2% for pre-mix is correct...
