possibly because being right hand drives, drivers can see more from their right side than they do on the left. field of vision. and also habit.

Yea agreed... says it all

There was a statics that reveal the safest riding position for bikes is to the right of center a bit. cos u will be in the view of the driver.

im sorry but i find it bullsh!t im really sorry but this is really.... shouldnt every driver or rider check the direction they want to change lane to? Then they should not drive or ride at the centre lane but kept to the left. unless you telling me overtaking at shoulder then ya mabbe dangerous. cos of debris.

yes, every driver should check the direction they want to change lane to. but tht's the same as saying everyone should not litter, everyone should not eat in MRT train etc.... :p

I just watched Crimewatch and there was a segment on motorcycles.

It was mentioned that motorcyclist should avoid overtaking on the left. e.g. i am on lane 2, then move to lane 3 to overtake a vehicle in front.

Actually what are the reasons this is discouraged?

I overtake on the left myself, and quite often too. Especially if there are fast moving vehicles on lane 1 and the vehicle in front is too slow.

LEFT lanes are known as SLOW lane ... hence, slower vehicles and huge commercial vehicles with 60km/hr speed limits are advised to keep left at all times.

So to take a left overtaking approach can sometimes be very dangerous and hazardous....

Often we need to pick up speeds to overtake ...... and that is where serious consequences could result ...., especially moving left...

Never never overtake from the left , as u may be lucky once, twice but never always .... especially on wet days and night fall ....

Once u have that habit of doing left overtakings .... accidents are juz a matter of time !!!

Exercise patience , regulate yr speeds according to traffic condition, maintain safe riding distances ( especially for bikes to avoid sudden braking/avoidance actions ) .

Besides , it could be rather insulting to drivers , when one overtalkes from the left side , often provoking unnecessary retaliations ......

BIKERS are MOST VULNERABLE and often took the heaviest punishments whenever an accident involving BIKES ....

SO REMEMBER : EXERCISE DEFENSIVE RIDING , including equipping yourself with the correct attire and riding gear ....

Take care .......... be alert at all times !! Never risk yr life and yr Family's and cause hazards to others .... be a responsible RIDER and a good road user .

the left lane is where cars exit or enter ur road, u will see fast car slowing, slow car accelerating, so its rather more dangerous to overtaking by the left.

theres a reason for everything, lane 1 generally u only have fast car going straight, for overtaking there is rather more straight forward.

very dangerous to overtake on the left. cuz only fast vehicles will normally over take on the right, it makes u not check the left. cuz u might think that u are tavelling faster. so you have the tendency of not checking on the left before changing lane to the left.

Ya everyone have to be a good road user. Not only riders, drivers cyclist and pedestrian all should do the same. But for drivers they have to be extra careful than the others cos they are handling a bigger machine wish can cause death to others like cyclist rider and pedestrian. And most of the accident that are fatal all involve cars killing the rest. As why bike has the highest fatality rate is due to the nature that bikes are more exposed to cars than cyclist and pedestrian.

Hmmm kana before. horn me and shake head somemore. but well LLST i take it as my fault i didnt notice him. But sighz.... why they wanna do this cannot wait meh they dunno they endangering themselves. But overtaking in turn in the inner lane is an advantage in race. :p

LOL I prefer the heavier bike/car so I take the outside line LOL

Anyways, yes, I share the same view on filter lane X-treme Queue Cutters. Being able to enjoy 2-wheeled agility is one thing, but squeezing forward under the most idiotic of circumstances "just because I can save 5 seconds" leads to risk of personal harm.

So just ride your own way and don't care lol.

cannot wait meh

It's interesting that bikes don't give safety distance to other bikes. I had to show some giant Steed rider some nasty gestures the other night because he went up alongside me, started staring and became a huge traffic obstruction (imagine this - he was technically, no longer looking at the road).

very dangerous..cos most of time drivers will notice them very last minute as most of the attention will be on the oncoming traffic..really don't understand why they want to do this kinda things...if really die die wan pang sai cannot stand liao overtake from the right la.

I think you meant taking the outside line and dive in kinna turn. Which is using the whole width of the lane. i usually stay in the line of turn. haha..

Well you must be damn stunning or hot for him to stare at you. Hahaha...

Stop at the traffic light look at him, scold him Na Bei and adjust your breast la. Hahahahaha.

It makes perfect sense now. Intrigued by my Magical Fuel Penguinsâ„¢, her pillow fortresses and office of desperate housewives, kaylan MUST be a lady!

I was kinda confused about her sexuality at first. A lady with superb technical knowledge on mechanics? I must be dreaming!!!

Got one encounter this Merc Taxi overtake me from the left on a three way lanes. After he change lane to centre which is just infront me he slow down where my meter show from 100 to 80 so i check theres oncoming car on my right so i overtook him from the left but the bugger not happy he accelerate faster and dun let me overtake him.So lan lan have to change back centre lane and once the 1st lane clear i overtook him and just zoom away.Dunno what was he thinking.
