5) DL650...i guess it's more hightech which is comparable to the Vara. as of now kinda fit my bill...in price, tax and pwr...but i think need to get used to the looks...i guess diff taste bah...another thing is that suzuki support in spore is not very good...

Not good.

Hey Bro, my EXACT sentiments! But not too keen on a beemer($$,$$$). . .

The GS is overpriced in Singapore, IMO.

To my experience the V-Strom is the bike which is closest to the GS, especially in terms of ergonomics and long distance comfort. I had a DL1000 for five years. The DL650 is physically layout just about the same. As I said, I was surprised about its lively engine.

Meng Tong had serviced my DL1000, what he did he did well. I could see how he was stumbling over the modern technology a little in the beginning. But later he did everything easy, "with one hand in his pocket". One negative exception occurred in all the years, once he forgot a sealing. I was angry but I could not be angry about him.

The DL650 follows generally similar construction principles. It is actually easier to service, because this model was trouble free from the very beginning.

IMO, you can only compare one feature at a time, eg. pick-up speed, then u can say bike A is best. once you have more than 1 factor involved, then it will not be possible...you will have to put a weightage to the diff factors. diff people will assign diff weightages since we are not clones.

anyway, i got myself a tdm...what is not appealing to another is appealing to me. it's old fashioned - i like that. when i park at the basement of novena sq, straight away my eyes will be drawn to the big flashy BMW, vara, fazer and a couple of colourful sportbikes parked there. from a distance, my black tdm merges with the other black smaller bikes. hence it doesnt attracted unwarranted attention. i'm not an exhibitionist...

it's also slimmer and lighter than the rest. a great advantage in sg roads. other than that, i cant tell since it's so new to me...sometimes it's the luck of the draw to end up with a machine that gives perpetual problems that cant be solved, esp when getting a second hand one.

from what i know, bike & car technology (except for those powered by alternative energy) has peaked long ago, so you wont see drastic improvements in new models (pls correct me if i'm wrong). changes are mainly in the cosmetic dept. more power equals higher fuel consumption, simple as that. same applies to fairings and special features.

There are significant differences in between these bike. Tell me how would you know, if you never tried? Logically, if you never did, differences appear to be merely design differences.

I drove them all.

riding a G4 for the past year reinforced my desire to purchase an adventure bike. the damn thing is so freaking tiring to ride long distance. and its faired no less. so much plastic to watch over. :|

I would like to purchase a TDM900, because what i gathered it has one of the better fuel consumption among the quartet. one of the cheaper ones as well. problems might come from its speed. can it hit 200kph? maybe not maintain a speed of 200, but can it hit 200kph? it would be rather annoying for this bike to be slower than a CB400. The parallel twin engine should be more comfortable than a v-twin strom.

good sized tank, good fuel consumption for its class, comfortable riding posture. Slap on a wingrack and a pair of Monokey E45 + Maxia E50 and slap a E90 rack on the E50 and i can probably live on my bike.

Bajaj Pulsar 180 - UG3 (2007 - )

Suzuki GSXR-400 (2008 - 2009)

Piaggio Vespa GT 200L (2009 - 2011)

Yamaha YBX 125 (2010 - )

Yamaha FZ S1 '05 (2011 - )
