:giddy:

Yo Royster and those who really wishes to quit (or cut down), here's just a few tips that worked for me but not guaranteed works for you but no harm in trying rite?

Mind over Matter or Mind doesn't Matter?

A lot of smokers who tried to quit but failed several times are left wondering if there is ever hope for them. In my opinion, smoking is a lot similar to eating(although I might have a prob with that). A regular smoker will subconsciously take that stick out and light it. Why do I say subconscious? Try mingling in a crowd that smokes, you will instantaneously flip that hardpack out and toss out the stick without even working a single brain cell. Okay I am exaggerating, you need to at least think where'd you put your lighter.

The point over here is this. Most smokers failed because they tried too hard or they suddenly go cold turkey. How is this related to eating? Simple. Imagine yourself starving for the whole day from morning till evening. What happens when you are finally greeted by food? The hunger pang makes you eat like there's no tomorrow. What if you had enough to fill yourself for breakfast and lunch and a light afternoon tea? Would you be that hungry by the same evening and gorge at watever that's put down in front of you? I don't think so.

See the relation? The key here is to slowly and progressively cut down. Yes, progressively. Estimate the regular number of sticks you smoke per day, OR estimate how long can a 20 stick pack last you? If you smoke 20 sticks per day, that is like 1 and a half sticks per hour for the 12 hours you are awake. Whatever the number of sticks you smoke per day, try to HALVE it for 3 days. Get yourself a separate cigarette box and limit your sticks to only THAT amount per day for the next 3 days.

Why three days? It is scientifically proven that the body adapts and changes to the surroundings and stabilize if the change is constant for 3 days. After 3 days, the body will now be adapted to THAT amount of sticks you had per day.

If you'd have achieved that for 3 days, try and go for the WHOLE WEEK. By the end of the whole week, your subconscious mind will too adapt that your body only consumes that amount of sticks per day. Gone were the first 3 days where you are controlling your number of sticks, instead, your subconscious mind will take control of your habits and bodyclock on when to take that stick out and you will subconcsiously be taking note of the number of sticks you have left for the day and ration them.

Now, if you are ABLE to and CAN achieve this by the first week, go on for a second week. By the end of the second week, you will get so used to THAT number of sticks until you forgot the fact that actually 2 weeks backs, you had TWICE the number of sticks you had now.

After two weeks of success, give yourself a treat. Take a day off and grab that Hardpack, hold it in your hands again and smoke without a care and concern how many sticks you would be having that day. End of the day, you MUST get rid of the pack and start over your THAT amount of sticks again the next day.

A day off is important. Same as any regiments, the body must ease itself from any boundaries or rules. The same physics apply to those homes with water heaters. If you notice, there is a valve that says, "Release pressure at least once every 3 mths." Same applies to our body. If we dun ease that pressure once in a while, we'd be so pressured up, we might blow up anytime and that's when smoker's actually FAILED. Cos they tried too hard.

Now where were we? OKay we are at end of two weeks and after that day off(prefereably a weekend with friends). The next day to come, you must regroup yourself and think, "Can I progress further? Am I ready to move on to the next level?"

Come on. Be honest with yourself. If you are not ready, say you are not and carry on with THAT number of sticks. But if you are, well, you are in for a treat.

The start of the third week, instead of HALVE the number of sticks, reduce the current one till about 2/3. Eg; If you originally smoked 20, you'd be smoking 10 for first 2 weeks and now third week, you cut that down to about 7.

Try THIS new number of sticks for the next three days. You will experience the same effect you had when you first cut down your sticks to HALVE during the first three days before. At first you'll find it quite hard. But think that if you can succeed before, you can succeed this one too.

*Just a side note: Instead of letting your subconscious mind let you take control of the drawing of the stick, ACTIVATE your conscious mind and think before you draw that cigarette, "Do I really need this now? Or shall I keep this for later?" - Keep on stalling if you can.*

At the end of three days, assess yourself. Are you comfortable with THIS number of sticks per day. If you are, continue for the whole week.

Well, I am sure you know that I will go on and on with the same thing. The cycle repeats itself. If you can stick with the above guideline, one day you will wake up and find that you do not depend on the cigarettes anymore. You will only smoke once or twice with friends and good company. And you can finally label yourself as a Social Smoker.. which is good in a way though..

So good luck and all the best those who WANTS to quit or cut down. I wish you the best!

obviously u din read the above guidelines..

well, all i can tell you is that cold turkey will eventually lead you to be out of control for that craving, and when you can't tahan anymore, you will burst like a balloon and continue on smoking with a mindset that quitting was a failure for you, so why quit?

To go cold turkey is to go against something that your body is used to. And the only means and ways to be successful in cold turkey is NOT to think of anything that associates with the stick at all.

Posting here about how hard it is that you are tahaning not to smoke really doesn't help. YOu are only reminding yourself that the option of smoking is there. To go cold turkey is not to even discuss abt it, lest write abt it. So if you wish to succeed in your cold turkey, I suggest you not discuss nor talk abt your cold turkey at all. This will at switch off your subconscious mind abt the option to take that puff.

I like to be a bit more negative.....u are quitting for someone or for yourself? this is the real question, if it's for yourself....i salute you...u are the man

BUT

if you are doing it for someone, then what if.......(sorry if it offended u)

This is the question that only you yourself will know.....and from the thread that u are posting, similar to what Manzz had said, you are just trying to prove something....and that only u will know yourself :p

I long time ago want to quit smoking liao... Just never took it up seriously enough... Now I am attached to someone I really like very much and that she also support me in quitting, so why not do it now???

Actually the plan is to reduce to 5 sticks per day, the cold turkey thingy is a spur of the moment act, now I am holding it up ok so far since Tuesday 8pm... It's been more than 48 hrs liao...

It is all in the mind, I believe.... Mind over body...

More updates about how I am coping soon...

Hopefully by this year end, I can finally be sure and announce I am not going to touch another hoon kee again ever...

Now still struggling and craving for it whenever the mind is on idling...

Hehehe!

Ask any smokers who have smoked for 15 years and above... It is really difficult to quit... But here I am doing it for myself, for her and our future...

Cheers!
