hey kev ,

i think it might be after market cover as i see nuts and bolts ..

trying to spray both rims and spokes black :)

before u do that, mk sure the spokes are clean of rust, otherwise, it'll be wasted coat of paint.

my suggestion is that, if got mula, bring it go powder coat, rim, spokes & hub.

Just to share.

My vlx felt hot at junctions or when idling. I did a coolant check and it was still full. Mech said it was normal. I knew better.

Great thing i found this forum and read that the fan may be faulty and that tap water cannot be used. This mech used tap water. I thought so because after topping mine up, he emptied the rest to the drain. Colour was brown. I had it flushed and filled with maxima cool aide. Although im sure engine ice would have given better. I'm satisfied for its price. Bike runs much cooler now.

This happened to my bike. Brown indicates rust from the water belt fan. Water belt fan churns the coolant in the coolant tank.

If you other fan (on the outside) turns on frequently, regardless of whether you make short or long trips, then it's time to check if that water fan belt is working.

My mech waited for the bike to cool, open the coolant cap and throttle hard. This should churn the coolant and it should spill, indicating that it's working.

go look out for avg diesel helmet, it has black color. I bought it for around $170 @ LAB. :)

Dear all,

I got a prob with my bike. It all started after up and down a MSCP from most bottom lvl to most top 3 times with a pillion. Then I go shopping, after which the bike cant start. I return the next morning and I manged to start it. However I experience at time the bike lost power for a pretty long distance, then regain, and then lose power again. this repeats. I went Chong and Amir, both say got water. Both attend to my bike. BUt problem still there. Now is worse, it lose power till stall. I suspect is something to do with cooling. Becoz the losing of power start after a distance. I really dunnoe whats wrong, anyone as similiar experience?

Thank you in advance!

armani123sg: Amir says he clean my tank and replace my fuel filter. Chong says got water and he fix it. Tat is all I know, I was busy last week so i left it to them. But none solve it. Bad. My steed had a history of electric prob, which cause it to die on me a few times. Amir solve it by connecting a relay from my magnetic coil straight to my rectifier(if this make sense), so it will directly charge my battery. He was saying the wire harness is old and might have problem, so he did the relay. Thank you for your reply. really appreciate. i been refreshing tis page for reply..lol...

1. Is there a possibility it has been parked outdoors to let water seep in again?

2. Starting is one issue

3. Engine stalling on the move could be another.

1. I dont understand what amir did but bypassing things sure doesnt sound good. It usually results in premature battery failure.

2. Starting up may be electrical, coil or water in tank issues. Can you describe what happens when you try to start your ride? was the sidestand tucked in? kekeke..

3. Your engine stall could be electrical, water in tank or engine issues. I believe heating is precautionary.

From what i have been reading from the previous post in this thread, high revving to get rid of water or do not put your fuel cock to to reserve mayb help. I do however, have my doubts.

my 2 cents. I'm no guru.

By the way ariess, i remember now from my phantom days. If you pillion, your chain will stretch. So freeplay should be more.

just to check , anyone tried adjusting the rear shock before ?

need instructions in doing so :)

1)wondering if adjusting the tension to "harder" will bring the bike lower ?

2) if no possible for the above , any lobang to "cut ' the spring and costs ? Car workshops might be out as i doubt they will entertain or have knowledge to remove the shock

thanks

"1. I dont understand what amir did but bypassing things sure doesnt sound good. It usually results in premature battery failure."...bo pian to replace harness is exp...400+++..

Ariess: from my experience from adjusting tension... it has a gauge 1-7... 1 softest, 7 hardest... 1 lowest, 7 highest... if i dun remember wrongly...

IIRC, it can be adjusted, provided you still have the C-spanner or if you can find one.

Hv to remove seat and stuff to adjust also..

& I thought if adjust harder, it means to push the spring lower(or downwards) hence = longer instead of shorter?

There's aftermarket lowering kit, no need to "cut" the spring if Im nt wrong.

But my advice is not to do so, cos the rear is already low, if lowered, be prepared that the rear swingarm & spare coolant tank to be hit upon impact.

actually, for an old bike, it is best if the wirings can be replaced.

as wires may "harden", and the socket couplings may deteriorate over the years.

and jus for infos, for Steed, if park @ open cp, without cover, there's a tendency of water seepage thru the tank cap.

Kev's:

- Yea. I heard bros here tok abt water going into tank thru the cap. Maybe I will try get rubber to blk see help anot.

- I got the C-spanner. but dunnoe how it works. End up use metal pole and hammer LOL!! Lower softer, that is what I experience. I also tot lower harder but i m wrong.. LOL!

The lowering kit look like http://www.scootworks.com/swcart/shop/vlx_top.jpg

Its better to change the tank cap.

A phantom one will do, cheap also..

okok... gota rephrase...

the actual meaning of "lowering" is to lower the rear end so as to mk it machiam "chopped"

&, when doing so, the rear suspensions are either changed to rigid or hard type or for some, make it solid aka w/o suspension for the nostalgic look.

if just mentioning of "lowering", it could also be meaning, by just adjusting the spring load setting, higher to hard or lower to soft..

erm.. can understand my rantings?

if so.. wana do which one? :?
