Kev's right. The holes are for water drainage purpose. Knocking holes to make it louder is to knock from the exhaust outlet holes, to break a hole in the silencers.

How time flies...

Big is certainly a warning but small can be downright scary! Never underestimate the effectiveness of small.

Musha, if we knock holes in the silencers, can still pass inspection?

Also, how much louder will it be per pipe I knock (stock steed has 2 exhaust pipes). i.e. sound increase by 30% if I knock 1 pipe?

1 mech claims no steed will fail inspection one. ?? dunno on what basis he makes this claim.

Maybe he's thinking of those 'special contacts' in lta inspection centres. Normal person like me has no such contacts..

But seriously, if you wanna go for sound and not noise, my advise is to upgrade. The engine is too small to give you a nice sound.

Ya kinda agree with this. Cos it will sound more like farting den thumping. Since removing the baffle and changing pipe will both result in $500 fine, might as well change pipe right? I saw one Steed springer with a 2-1 pipe, sound really bassy.

oh ya, I think you will need to rejet if you knock off the baffle. if not will be too lean.

Abt the water seeping into fuel cap problem, I used 'hard foam' that I cut out from a gift packaging + 3M doublesided tape.

I did it more for hiding the paintwork that wasn't well done at the fuel cap area, but I hope can also block out some rain water from seeping in.

yeah..i tried that...wawawa...air lock man..spend a couple of days trying to figure out my bike problem after doing that..

take note of this..if anyone attempting to do this...

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time:dot:

Hey mepkoh, when you say you faced air lock problems, what sort were they?

Or do you mean that cos the gas cannot escape from the fuel tank, it caused your fuel inlet tube to be blocked. And petrol can't flow through the tube to the engine? Hence bike can't move?

I recently added this last mth =x since 1 mth liao no probs.. should mean my seal not as power-packed as yours =)

yeah ..maybe the cap something wrong with it..unable to breathe properly..

so in the end...reduce the circular add on water seal to a semi circle and it it work..

Knock sure will have to knock both pipes, knock 1 pipe, the sound will be funny.

Steed are ok to have this chopper "sound".

How time flies...

If the increase in sound output volume is not too high, you should not have a problem passing the inspection. I have ever witness a foreign guy who bought his steed with baffles less pipe to inspection and obtain a 'pass' during the inspection.

Yes, Nights is right bro...Anyway, just look at our Harley friends...Most of them have pipes which are quite a screamer but yet they do pass the inspections...It's not the saying, "But they are Harleys...", it's just that if it's not too loud while it's only idling, the inspection centre will definitely pass it through...Cheers...

You will find that nearly all harley owners put back the stock pipes to pass inspection.

This, I have to agreed! :D In any case, a baffles-less Steed's pipes is not as loud as the aftermarket pipe meant for a Harley Davidson's bike. The level of DB is still slightly under the range. :)

I went to ubi to get my license plates changed & chanced upon this motordiam, First World. The 'modified' sound from a shadow slasher got my attention.

One of the bosses advised me that they will 're-make' the inner part of the exhuast. Quoted near $200. Sounds reasonable to me. Good thing is that they will lend you an exhuast so you can continue riding while they fix it up.

I'm looking to up my 'exhuast volume' from 80 to 95 range in 2 weeks' time. Will update when it's done.

Well to save the trouble, i usually ask my bike shop to settle for me at a small extra fee. No need to bring the bike to n fro again.

Ya ya...That's right too bro...At least get it done right by the pros...

Well, ya you are right bro, not all harleys change back to their stock pipes...

The point is you cannot just roll up to inspection with non stock pipes and expect to pass like you are suggesting.

If I may say so, take a closer look at the outer 2 pair of forks. Near the bottom, there is a 'movable' joint.

These two outer forks do not absorb suspension impact. It's the middle spring that does so, hence the outer 2 have the 'movable' joints at the bottom end.

Heheh.. backside itchy mah. I was quoted $180. I think possible to do elsewhere more cheaply and I believe this place quotes at a 'premium'.

What attracted me was the number of steeds & shadows that they were selling. The boss also has a steed & shadow himself that are exhaust 'zhng-ed'. Sounded nice, so I was backside itchy & willing to fork out that amt.

Next mth eat grass liao..

This reminds me. News Alert: First Motor (Ubi Ind Park) has a steed springer parked outside along its line of bikes for sale. Also have a handful of steeds. Looks like it is for sale, call to confirm if interested.
