All the best on your trip bro :)

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

One concern I can think of is fuel range. Have you tried touring and know for sure how far your 1 full tank can hit? This is impt cos you don't wanna miss a RR and run out of petrol!

And also, it's a Ducati...what level of self repair can you do? Just curious.

Bring parts that tend to spoil and unavailable in Thailand. That include spark plugs...

Hi fellow riders, just got back from rolling. But didn't go alone, brother came along. My first attempt was thursday, set out at 6am, cross malaysia border and realized the sole of my boots came off, too long never wear. So, stop by macap town to buy some super glue and try to repair it. Parked bike and do my magic for about 20min. Went back to bike and start, kick to first gear and gear shift lever got stuck with side stand. Don't know how it happened...

So i panic a bit then decide to come back. Got the bike fixed and wait for the next day. My brother saw me home and decided to come along, first time for both of us.

This is how it looks like.

Friday

cross border(malaysia) - 6am, top up

macap - 7am

pagor - 8.15am, food, top up, left at 9am

ayer keroh - 9.40am

seremban - 10.35am, top up

rawang - 12.20pm, top up

pehrang - 1.20pm

tapah - 2.20pm, top up, food, left at 3.15pm

sg perak - 4.15pm

g semonggol - 4.50pm, top up

gurun - 6.30pm, top up

thai border - 7.50pm, got stuck at customs for 3 hours, brought log card, sg no more log card idiot! i actually brought the last owners log card, when i bought over the bike, LTA gave me a letter, that's it. downloaded a page from onemotoring to verify with thai officers.

check in hatyai rama hotel - 12~1am

We had a lot of stops here because we wanna play safe, maybe too safe, anyways, my bike can only take me around 250 on a full tank, brother's steed also around the same. One thing for sure ducati not very fuel efficient, mine isn't. Top up at the same place, roll for the same time and distance, he top up less than me everytime. Rolling speed is around 100-120km/h, hit 130 once a while.

There was a major jam before thai border, some fire broke out, so everybody wait and stare. It was raining just a bit before that too.

Thai border was a long delay because I brought the old log card. My bad, but the officers there were kind enough to let me through with just the captured page from onemotoring. Not from the computers in the internet cafes there, I actually called home to get my sister to email the captured page to me. The computers there are so ****ed up, they don’t have java script, so need to download, then need to figure out how to enable it, that’s a *****. So I called home in the end.

Border to hatyai is around 60km, night riding isn’t that bad, it was a straight road anyway. I suggest riding behind some truck/car at night, so at least they provide you with some light to see what’s ahead.

Saturday

leave for krabi - 11.30am

pass by krabi - 5.10pm. press for phuket

phuket - 8.30pm, look for accommodation untill around 11pm, hit a beer, slept at around 2am.

Hatyai to phuket is just a little less than 500km, woke up late that day so reached late. One advise is to go to krabi first, as in go to krabi town, then go to phuket from there. Because when we passed by krabi, it was around 5pm, and there was around 200km left to phuket, and another 50-60km to patong, so when pressed on from there.

Why go krabi first? Well, if you go straight from there, you’ll hit a mountain area with super zig zag road, that’s a *****, plus it’s dark already, for us. Good thing about riding at night in that area is you’ll see on coming vehicles, flip side, it’s a little freaky there, you know what I mean……

One thing about thai road signs is: don’t follow the green sign boards. Just follow the white ones. Stay on route 4, then go into krabi, from there, to phuket, that way, you should skip the mountain area.

Oh, the tour buses there are ****ers, they are constantly trying to kill you, so don’t get in their way. Besides that, everybody else is humble and nice, except for papa cow, mama cow, daughter cow and baby cow trying to cross the road. You can only wait there and cow bey, cow bu……

Sunday

check out and leave for hatyai again - 9am

krabi - 1.15pm, lunch, look around, left at 2.15pm

hatyai - 7.45pm

This time we missed the mountain area because we went to krabi, that’s why I think you should skip that son of a ***** area.

Monday

easy day - went to some waterfall

Tuesday

check out - 5.10am(sg time), head for border

thai border - 6.20am, snack

gurun - 8.30am

g semenggol - 9.55am, top up

sg perak - 11am

tapah - 12.05pm

ulu bernam - 1.20pm, lunch, top up, left at 2.25pm

don't know what location - 50km before seremban

seremban - 4.10pm

ayer keroh - 5.15pm, top up

pagoh - 6.30pm

macap - 7.30pm, top up

sg border - 9.20pm (mission complete)

Well, if you noticed, we had less stops on the way back, speed was between 100-120km/h again, 130 once a while. I think the scenic area around tapah, lots of mountains, nice view.

And if you noticed also, after that ‘don’t know what location’ we sorta slowed down a little, why? This is what happened.

I was rolling at around 120, taking it easy. Then, some piece of cargo wrapping plastic came out of no where and found it’s way straight into my face. Bam! Mother ****ing sons of *****es scared the **** out of me. Can’t remember whether I could still see what’s ahead or not, my first reaction was to pull the ******* out of my face with my right hand. Split second wobble and jerking because throttle was off, change hands to maintain speed, not because I was afraid someone was tailing me, it was just instinct, I was ****ing in shock. Clear my visor but the damn thing was still stuck on the back of my helmet, could feel the drag, least now I can see what’s in front. Pulled off that ******* and realize it was still on my side mirror, cause it slammed on me from the side.

That was the scariest **** throughout the journey, other than those ****ing tour buses.

After that, went straight to the next rest point to calm down. Man I was scared shitless. All the way from there, average speed was 90. that’s why the delay.

I swear to god, if that son of a ***** was black/dark piece of plastic, you wouldn’t be reading this now. ****ing thank my lucky stars, maybe somebody there likes me. Close call that was man…..

Essentials to bring:

Map

Compass

Torch light

Water proof everything with zip lock bag

Weather gear

Shades

Gloves

Sun screen(optional)

Nicotine and caffeine

**** loads of water

Round up, Honda steed 400, ducati monster 400, tried and tested, no problem.

Ok fellow riders, did my part on the update. Thanks to the guys for the valuable information, the trip was a success. But seriously, next time, I’ll take the bus…..

Cheers!

Hi guys,

sorry for starting a new thread as i cant really find any relevant or specific information on this. i hoped to be able to do as many touring trips in this coming 2 months and most probably would be either alone or with my gf. thus i hoped to get some help in order to prepare myself for the trips.

1. are there any emergency numbers to call if say i got injured?

2. i will keep my bike to the utmost tip top condition but say suay suay my bike gave up on me? are numbers to call for a tow truck to bring me back to singapore?

3. other than money, passport, tyre fix, tool set and a duct tape as mentioned in some of the threads, any particular thing i have to take note. less those common items such as phone, charger etc and those listed in the touring preps threads.

4. i will be hoping to ride up to thailand one day if i can make it till then but not sure which part of thailand is the most common trip? i cant possibly cover all the way to northern thailand right haha. (possible for lao jiao but i not experienced enough). cause i read some threads and realised hatyai is the more common part of thailand

5. i am looking for malaysia street directory. something look like the one from singapore? are there any for purchase. prefer this kinda compared to those maps kind

welcome more advices though

cheers
