All 3 are possible. Third Part, TPFT (2nd party) and comprehensive.

Rest assured that comprehensive for P plate's gonna be very steep.

I'm paying close to 1.4k for my TPFT now.

11 mths shld be quite a big sum, i guess shld be able to have some money back

i got the answer, mitsui sumitomo ins will refund 100% of the remainder if u or ur buyer are buying another insurance concurrently, and 80% in any other scenario. This applies only if u have at least two months of the policy remaining.

since the bike belong to yr friend

u need to purchase the insurance policy using his name as main rider and yr name as subrider

i dont think its possible to purchase policy for less than a year (unless its for the purpose of extending the policy so that it coincides w/ the road tax renewal date)

so what u can do is to purchase a year's coverage & when u stop riding the bike then refund the unused portion of the premium

but like mentioned in previous posts...this refund is subjected to terms & conditions according to different insurance company regulations

I just renew my vtec 1 insurance and notice that the max NCD now is 20%.

The merit cert from traffic police no longer gave an addition 5%.

My insurance is from AIG

Is everyone encountering the same?

Hi everyone, got a situation here that need some advice.

my bike is currently on hire purchase from a bikeshop and it's insured by AIG for comprehensive insurance aka 1st party. I'm intending to switch to NTUC, TPTF aka 3rd party with fire and theft protection aka "2nd party". Can i do so by myself? Do i need to inform the bike shop? Thanks!

technically speaking, u can do it yourself without informing ur bike shop, as long as u have the insurance cert with u.

take note that u shd BUY THE NEW INSURANCE FIRST then cancel the old one. This is to cover ur ass should u meet with an accident while on your way from AIG to NTUC.

u probably piss the shop for doing that, and likely the next renewal, they're not going to help u do for free.

hi guys i need a bit of help here.

juz got a letter frm mitsui to renew my insurance. stated on paper there's 30% loading(cos of my accident). i did a bit of calculation and found that there's no much difference frm ntuc in terms of premium price paid.

here comes the tricky part. will there be a loading period? does mean that if loading period's 3 yrs, my 30% loading gonna be carried forward for next 2 yrs on top of my NCD? so if that's true, will it be better to sign up with a co. with min. yrs of loading?

if so how long will it be for various insurance company?

thx a lot guys!

i'm surprised that they'll do it for free? i'm not sure whether would they or not.. but i have gotten myself a good deal with NTUC which is why i want to switch. I haven't spoke to the bike shop and the salesman who sold me the bike no longer works at that branch .

Should i speak to them before i make the change or should i just go ahead and piss them off? afterall it's a different salesman i'm approaching when i pay monthly instalments.

i'm quite pissed with the AIG broker though.. ask them for a quote for TPTF coverage, they ask me to let the bike shop do everything. i need to know the figure to save up for the money at least give a figure of like around $600-700 plus so i know roughly how much i need. bad customer service! :nono:

lastly just wanna double confirm something. i'm turning 24 before the commencement date of the insurance and my licence is 2++ years old. However, this is my first bike that i bought in sg. (it's about 6 months old) when i buy isurance, am i getting 10% NCD or 15% NCD? i've interpreted that my first renewal will only grant me a 10%.

my insurance expires 20th june 2006. my road tax is expiring this month. (31st january 2006)

since there has to be insurance coverage before renewing the road tax, as i wanna renew road tax to 31st january 2007, is it possible for me to renew my insurance for just 8 months to cover up till road tax expires?

some shops will renew your rd tax and insurance for free if u are on good terms with them. afterall, its just dumping your documents with the courier and getting them back two days later. for free means they don't charge u service charge for renewing, not they pay the rd tax and insurance for u.

the shop, as would any ordinary person, would convince u not to switch becos u will lose a certain amount of $ in the portion of pro-rated (unused) premium refund as refunds are never done at 100%. Also, u will have to, in due time, purchase additional short term cover so that your insurance will expire in sync with your road tax (unless u chun chun on the 1/2yr date change insurance).

for ur NCD case, its better u speak to the NTUC agent cos its there that u are carrying ur NCD over to. hope it helps.

Thanks for the enlightenment. I'm not quite sure about the pro-rated (unused) premium refund. the idea is that i want to do the renewal on my insurance when it expires. if i change insurance co. i will not be able to choose commencement date?

currently my insurance have not expired yet. so i will be doing it when it's going to expire.. say 2 weeks before expiry.. i supposed that should give the insurance company enough lead time to perform the paperwork. if not, i'll go 1 month before it expires.
