Perhaps the best solution is simply to tag it at $2k for class 2B, $4k for class 2A and $6k for class2 bikes

 

all this stupid bidding is senseless and does not help.

 

settle it once and for all.

I prefer to see a solid hand on this.

 

Scondly and most importantly for cars and bikes, loan should not be allowed for COEs.

COEs to be paid in cash upfront. loan should only be for the vehicle.

 

no money? Can afford? Then dont buy.

go public, nothing shameful.

dont be a wuss.

There are too many driver that can't afford to drive, the number of illegal parking just to avoid paying by going into the gantry shows it all.

 

If they were asked to pay the COE using cash, I think COE for bike will sky rocket again. And this time is really due to market demand. Hahaha

If there are more demand than supply who decides who gets the COE if there's no bidding?

This can be done and HDB and MOE had proven it. We do not bid for our HDB although the demand is always higher than the supply. We do not need to bid for our children's entry into school where there are not enough slot in the primary school beside us.

 

All these can be done using the balloting method. But of cos, if the ballot method is to be used, there will be rules on the sales of the bike as the owner should not profit from it in the near future.

Never too late to just bloody implement it now.

 

I don't care if balloting system means I kenna skipped one or 2 months. As long as eventually will get it for reasonable price i'm fine with it.

 

6k is bloody unreasonable especially for 2B bikes. For the price of the machine and the COE combined, I can fly to America and buy 4 125cc bikes and still got enough money left over to build a wooden shed to store them.

Apparently there are a lot of "rich attas" people buying premium bikes for leisure rides nowadays. Just like these few years suddenly got alot of sports cyclist ride on the roads.

Among the premium brands, only BMW has increased sales in recent years. U can check out the stats in LTA website.

 

The only 2 reasons for the spike in bike COE prices is due to leakage of COE quota to open category n reduction of COE quota across all categories a couple of years back.

with COE so high premium bikes look more worth it. so people tend to get more ex bikes.

I think should have 2 COE classes for bikes. below 200cc and above 200cc. actually HP is better than using CC.

 

yeah, I agree but unfortunately the likely outcome for this is that the below 200cc COE might be more expensive cos of higher demand and the typical demography that goes for loan meaning that don't feel the impact of $500 change in COE prices. Maybe can tweak it a bit to below 200cc & open category for any class of bike.

 

so, how do we move on with these suggestions?

tough lah all the workshop, bike shop are all monitoring and bidding the COEs. They are also keeping to COEs for standby to transfer.

There are so many of them. then I noticed more foreigners going for class 2b lessons and once passed go for brand new 200cc bikes...
