Dear Fellow Bikers,

I have decided to get the Honda STX1300 and rite now only available in White & Black (shld i say metallic dark grey). New colour for 2008 is Candy Red which is not my choice anyway Boon Siew got not stock for the bike and need to wait for shipment.

I'm now somehow caught between the white STX or Black STX. Any kind soul with comments & suggestion to help me make up my mind.....

Buy white ST13!! And get a white helmet! Install blue and red neon lights too!

No one will ever tailgate you anymore! Cars wont anyhow eat into your lane!

Ok, honestly, white will turn yellowish after prolong exposure to the sun. As for black, it will be very obvious if you are the type who is lazy to wash bike.

just offering my views.... go with a colour that makes you delighted seeing.

btw i've seen a STsomething having 2-tone gunmetal grey.

i think that colour is nice for your STX.

but you're choosing between white and black, its black for me.

Go for dark colors , white is hard to maintain n its harder for other rd users to notice ur bike .

Black is harder to maintain. Every small scratch from washing your bike becomes very obvious. And a dirty black bike looks bad. When the black paintwork becomes dull from lack of waxing etc, also look bad. For white, you don't have to worry much about scratches and polishing. A quick rinse and it looks good again.

But a beautifully maintained black bike will always look gorgeous. I love black on bikes.

Another thing to consider is safety.... not only when running, but when the bike is parked at a dark place.

I second cgl--black is the most difficult colour to maintain clean, in my opinion.

Most people would think white is hardest to maintain clean because--it is white. Actually, black is even more difficult. The disadvantage of grossy black (in your case dark grossy grey) is that it is very obvious when there is smudge on the paintwork. Such as when you just rode through a light drizzle; or there is no rain, but you rode over a wet road, there will be splashes. You will see stained dirty water marks on your bike.

Also, you can't leave dirty water on your black bike to dry after washing your bike as this too will leave behind water marks.

Having said all these, the advantage of grossy black is that it reflects light very well. So after a clean bike wash, the bike will shine and look almost showroom condition (much more so than any other colour). Waxing effect is also most obvious on black. Black is also a great colour for vehicles (bikes and cars) which have large bodies, and/or well-contoured lines. Black will show off the lines very well. This is why one of the best colour for Ferrari is black to show off its curves. The STX will look very nice in black because it has big surfaces and has some great curves.

I know about black because I had 3 black cars (one white car); one black-and-red bike. Also I ride a STX (but grey because 04 model).

STX will also look very nice in white. But I wouldn't want the car travelling in front of me suddenly jam brake because the driver looked into his rear view mirror and thought there was a TP bike behind him. He jam brake, I also need to jam brake. If driver didn't realise you are not TP, he will continue to drive slow slow, then you will get stuck behind for a while. So you create problem for yourself by being white right? :)

great analysis endlessloop, i do agree with you having drove red, white, gold, blue and silver cars. Black is nice but hard to maintain with swirl marks if the cloth is dirty when cleaning but after a polish wow, shiny as brand new. My last car was a jet black and now metallic silver grey maintaining is a breeze.

I believe your silver STX is very easy to keep it clean rite. Dun actually see the dust until you touch your bike. Thanks for your views Bro

You lucky devil. I was thinking of getting a black one because sick of cars slowing down infront of me when they see my white ST. For some stupid reason cars don't get out of the way in Singapore when they see police vehicle (real or pretend).

Hee Thanks Bro, so you are riding a white ST now? color aside how's this bike? I have no previous experience nor do I have buddies riding this bike.

Congrats bro.iPerhaps thats the common glossy gun/grey colour. In any case, bikers are always a minority among other road users. Depend on how you make yourself and your bike more visible. Go with the colours you prefer and more appealing to you. Dont ask my colour...its in my avatar.HEehehe
