Our road are very urban..I wont deny the fact that we r a city country, tats y is far more easier to maintain the rds ard.

But due to the lack of space/land, we dun hav different riding terrains to satisfy our riding needs..I tink tats y we need to travel up to Thailand.Different rd conditions tests ur skills...so to me..there isnt much difference cox its boring to ride in S'pore...but on the other hand, its safer..

it will be better if they do away with all those metal drain cover. i still dun understand why they have to have this drain cover. so difficult to access. creating a big bump on the road. even if they wanna put the drain cover can`t they flatten out the whole things instead of having something like a hump or a small mountain. and there are so many of them around.

Singapore roads most of the time okay, but some smaller roads are kinda bumpy (i sit in bus already bouncing up and down at Old Tampines Road, imagine if 2 wheeler). Some times got weird hump in the road too (not speed bump, middle of nowhere suddenly got one bump/small pothole)

I want to be a rider!

Hope to get 'free' 2b in NS!

Old tampines road very dusty cos alot heavy vehicles moving around there to open up the industrial area. But quite nice to ride through there provided you cover your face with a visor or else be prepared to 'eat' dust

u're right when u say our roads are one of the best roads but unfortunately we have retarded drivers here that cannot be compared to those of our asian neigbhours

but i have to disagree when it comes to design: can improve ... i have been riding in malaysia/thailand/indo... i prefer malaysia's motorcyle lane ...

I think our roads are comparable to the Deutsche autobahn. Excellent condition. If anyone feel that our roads are bad, he ought to see the ones in philippines. An eye opener of roads built with corruption.

I think Singapore roads now are worse than they were in the mid to late 80s. Why compare with others, when we cannot even maintain standards that we achieved before?

When the MRT started, train frequency was every 3 minutes, now it is 6-9 minutes in non-peak periods.

Posted

what to do? our population back in 80s was about 2 million plus. Now it's around 4.8million. How much space can you regain from reclaiming? and land reclaiming takes time. it's all about the rate of change of people's wants and needs....versus......development, or simply put...time.

every newly qualified driver wants to buy a car.even several poly students drive to school nowadays. so much so that just 1 accident on an expressway...can cause a long jam. if we call cars a luxury last time, now a lot of people say they "need" one.

as for public transport like MRT, demand climbs up and still goes up. but who wants to be the train controller? the same loyal people who served our trains last time probably are retiring or have retired. their replacements a.k.a. new blood may not be as many now. younger people who are highly educated (i.e dip & above) want executive jobs, high paying jobs etc. so the train operators are probably facing shortage of staff....who knows right? you can always say that you intend to increase trains & frequency etc, but what if hardly anybody responds to their job adverts?

if you say road condition in terms of quality of the trains, quality of road lightings & road maintenance we'd probably win hands down. but if you are talking about train frequency, ERP, traffic jams etc guess it's not that easy to solve them if you view at these not just as road users.

so how? at the end of the day...riding bike is still the best :thumb:

I realize this thread is already very old and cold. However, this gives me the oppportunity to write down what I personally feel while riding around.

1. I personally feel the road conditions in Singapore are terrible. Surfaces are very uneven and bumpy and most manholes make yopu jumping.

2. Singapore roads are in fact painted with road markings which get ****ing slipery and therefore dangerous for us bikers when it is raining.

Luckily it rains very seldom in this part of this world.

3. The number of traffic signs is unbelievable and this is most probably the reason why nobody cares.

4. Many Traffic lights are hiding behind trees or the Singapore National Day flag. Others are are simply totally wrong.

Resumee: There is a lot room for improvement.

Take care and have always a save ride!
