Hi,

I'm a despatch rider seeking advice from you nice people.. My dilemma is that for work, I clock up between 160 to 180 km a day~!! (talking to my boss to cut that down a bit)

I'm currently riding a Pulsar 180 and it's FC is great but it gets tiring when I have to ride from Tuas West to Changi Airfreight Centre, which is near changi beach for those who don't know, and back.(even after I get off the bike I can still feel my skin tingling from the vibrations) And also, I feel like i'm straining the engine at 8k rpm just to go 95km/h. I'm usually on the expressways so that happens a lot..

Now I'm thinking of getting a 2A bike. Most prob, GSR 400.. So, do you guys think its a good idea? I don't mind the extra maintenence and petrol.. Need a comfortable and fast ride.. Thanks in advance for all opinions!

P.S.: Anyone knows the FC for GSR 400?

GSR 400 will be a very comfortable and smooth ride.

my good friend is getting around 24-26km/l after run-in, he travels around alot too, need to go different sites. IT engineer.

If you got any friend who rides it, ask him to let you try out the bike. (in a safe/private compound please.)

i am sure you will like it.

for me, ever since i had a EFI bike, i never want to go back to carburetor.

no need for carb washing/tuning.

easy start everytime.

no worn needles, float valve, gaskets etc to change.

bike won't feel totally powerless or "lack of air" riding at high altitude.

anyway cars have been using EFI for donkey years.

I saw an s4 revo before i think.. it had a ferring right? is there a version with no ferring? I would actually try a friend's bike but all my friends have upgraded to class 2.. one blackbird and one st11.. and the rest using 2b bikes.. lol.. no one stuck in the middle with me..

Does EFI help with fuel efficiency?

GSR400 doing 24-26 km/l is ok to me.. A big difference from Pulsar, but going to be worth it for long expressway rides..

faster and more comfort.

EFI will have better fuel efficiency.

my previous R6 '05 was giving me better consumption than my '02 model.

there is always a optimum "mix" ratio of air and fuel, so no fuel will be wasted in the process.

I dun think GSR can do that much 24-26km / liter. I am riding one , The best that I had was 23km/litre and that was constant 80km/h. Do note that if you travel faster, FC will be affected. Now I am getting around 21km/liter, travelling at average 90-100km/h at a milage of 56km per day. The best that I can get on a GSR400 is 300km till reserve.

GSR also has the tendency of handlebar vibrations, stcok will start to vibrate quite alot at 80km/h. I am telling this so that you do not make a bad choice which you might regret in the end.

You may wanna get S4 Revo or Spec III, since got Vtec, you can save quite a lot. From what I can see, better stick to class 2B bikes, coz you will be pumping petrol every 2 days and your maintenance for 400cc bike will be quite often. Dun forget the maintenance cost is almost 3-4 times more than a class 2b bike.

BUT if company sponsor, go ahead.

Hi TS, i agree with the IvikaRazI that the maintenace for a 2A bike is a big jump compare to a 2B single cylinder 4-stroke bike. If u were to switch to S4 or GSR400, be prepared to nearly double your petrol expenditure per month which do not make sense economically for a dispatch rider like yourself. That's why u seldom see dispatch guys on big bikes! But to choose between S4 and GSR400, i will choose S4 as it is a tested and proven bike. And u r rite that riding a bigger bike for longer distance is a breeze, it shiok on your body but detrimental to your wallet, so u decided ;)

frankly speaking... theres no difficult decision in this scenario...

despatch riders just stick to your current bike...

you upgrade bigger bike... 2 months later you'll probably post.. "anyone using 2A bike for despatch and regretted it?"

2 cents.

I agree totally. The thrill of having that extra oomph when doing despatch will quickly degenerate into a desperate regret of burning your $$ unnecessarily.

thanks to everybody for your views and opinions..

I've been doing the calculations for a while now (amazing, the things you can do while riding from Tuas to town).. gonna have to spend AT LEAST twice as much on petrol and more than that for maintenance if I go through with..

to buttbutt8 - It's seldom to see big bikes but you'll be suprised when you do.. I've personally seen a new cb600 Hornet, GSR400s, Spec IIIs like nobody's business (unique tail lights) and a couple of 400cc motards.. Making my butt itch to sit on a bigger bike.. :cheeky: lol!

from my observations, the bigger bikes usually go islandwide.. while most of the smaller bikes play around town or have their own area of operations..

any comments on the fact that i feel i'm straining the bike at 8000rpm to go 95km/h?
