For the running in, I would do things by the book, it requires a bit of attention and discipline, but it's peace of mind.

If I remember correctly, during the running you're supposed to stick to this gear / speed ratios :

1st gear : max 15km/h

2nd gear: max 25km/h

3rd gear: max 40km/h

4th gear: max 50 km/h

5th gear: max 65km/h

I used to have a piece of paper with this taped to my tank so I could remember to respect the running in limits.

The running in if i remember correctly must be done during the first 800-1000km.

I don't think you have to change the oil every 250km..but I can't honestly remember how often I changed the oil during the running in sorry.. All I know is that during the running in you don't use the oil you''ll be using when the bike is ready post-runnin in.

The first 250 is the most essential. It generates the most side wall shavings from the engine cylinders. Need to clean that out as soon as possible.

Also, following the rpm limit is more reliable than following speed.

think you can print this and paste in on your tank again ...... kekekekeekkekekekeke

Oh? First 1k km?

Well, i am not going to argue with the user manual, but i do think that leaving the shavings inside for 1k km sounds dangerous to me.

hahaha .. what I posted basically for beginers first time ride bike ....

as for me since day 1 ... I based on the feels of the bike rather than checking my rpm or speedo ...

similar to during my driving clasess too .. my lady instructor taught me of using FEEL to move the car rather than looking at the dispaly unit like most male instructor who taught me ....

so when most people comment about lady driver this and that ... me .. that lady driver instructor was the best among all male instructor in the school!!!! ...

That's why when people asked me what is my changing gear rpm or speed .. I will always tell them to use by FEEL .. co the more you understand the feel of your bike the more comfortable you will be in handling your bike on the road ....

like I always said ... the more you expose on the road .. the more confidence you will be and more experience you will gain and understand on the hazard of the road.

Cheers!!!! .....

Sorry guys, typed up a whole post with map and everything and it didn't go through after that go busy with work.

I was thinking we could do the following :

Meet a Tuas at 9 am, stop after the customs to have breakfast , then go to the Recreational Forest a bit up north and ride there in nice environement, pit stop to enjoy adn take group photos, then ride back to A&W at bukit Indah for lunch.

After that, come back to SG through Woodlands. ETA 3pm max.

It's to get people to discover Tuas second link, and to go somewhere else that the usual spots in JB.

We can avoid the highway, since all riders will not be experienced at the same level and so new riders are comfortable.

I made a quick itinerary with Google maps, to show to suggested route from TUAS to A&W, and then the rest I suppose most of us know how to get back to woodlands :

http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/921/screenshot20110412at184.png

If this is OK and the group is keen on trying something new, I'll post a proper BTMO announcement.

As for who leads , I don't mind doing it if yall are ok with that - unless someone wants to lead or co-lead. I'll study the route before hand and I'll have my GPS. I'll just need the usual bike to close the convoy and 2-3 bikes to take care of the newbies depending how many we have, but we usually do that without planning it so I'm not worried about that.

there's a place call 777 from tuas, if u manage to find it, there's good food, not sure if they open in the afternoon, but we went there was at night.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

i only remember the 1st time i saw O'ren, she had her season parking RF disc stuck on her tanks using scotch tape

Ok what's up with everyone picking on me ! MJ, you're just giving everyone the idea they can anyhow make fun ! :D

I didn't have the plastic disk to put the season parking in it, and i was fined the first day I parked because I didn't have the disc, it's only after that, that I learned they can see your season parking status by looking up your plate :cheeky:

Haha, but Alvin, you have a great memory .. or maybe at the time you were so shocked by my stupidity you never forgot lol !

Oh? First 1k km?

Well, i am not going to argue with the user manual, but i do think that leaving the shavings inside for 1k km sounds dangerous to me.

hahahahha .. have you heard of "new engine breaking" ? ...

"Any rebuilt or new engine has to go through a break in process. Each piece of moving metal must get to know and fit with the piece of metal it is moving against. Usually, the manufacturers put a sticker on the speedometer or tachometer telling you to take it easy for 600 miles or so. Your buddy says "If you want to run it hard, break it in hard." As you might expect, the truth is not on the right hand or the left but, in the center

The problem is this. All this rubbing produces heat, which can cause oil to fail, which can cause a piston to seize to a cylinder wall. On the other hand, if there is not enough rubbing, the piston rings will not seat right with the cylinder walls. If this happens the engine will not reach it's full power potential. If the only new parts are piston and rings, as in an engine rebuild, we only have to worry about heat build up from the new parts. If the entire engine is new, the heat built up is even greater, because all the parts are new.

Yes, it is true that we have much better machining and quality control on new motorcycle engines, then we did in the past but, moving parts still have to wear in. If you have better, harder metal, it will take longer then if you have poorer, softer metal.

On one hand, if you run the bike too easy, you run the risk of the cylinder walls glazing over and then, maybe, never seating properly. On the other hand, if you run the bike too hard, you run the risk of engine seizure. I suspect, that even if you do glaze the cylinder walls over, if your run the engine hard enough and long enough, the rings will seat. However, this may take a thousand miles, or more, to do.

I would continue to do this during the entire break-in period. If you are doing any freeway riding. That is, running long periods of time at a steady throttle setting. I would also add this. Shut the throttle off and then on again, very quickly, every three or four miles. This tends to draw more oil up on the bottom of the pistons, lubing and cooling them. On a freshly rebuilt engine, I like to change the oil and filter at about two hundred miles and then every thousand miles thereafter. On a totally new engine, I change the oil and filter at one hundred fifty miles, three hundred miles, six hundred miles and twelve hundred miles. After that, change the oil and filter every one thousand miles. "

(Dan's Motorcycle)

Fyi .. I did this on my P200 Splitfire during my running in but with my own ways ..

cos I still refer to my manual book as guideline to when I need to clean or repair to have my ride in good condition...

I have yet to have any engine problems at present ...

and I hope it stays that way but as time goes along .. I'm prepared for it!! ....

I will open the engine soon to have it check and see also whether all the racuns I've fed on my ride do the magic or the opposite!!!! ...... hehehehehe

Like always mentioned by our bros ...... "Ït's Bike problems or Rider problems???

Cheers!!

some facts 4 u guys.

under 3 days mc no need police report, which would mean TP might not investigate. so if the accident is in ur favour, die die go hospital A&E, if it's not, go GP n settle ur own self. A&E no matter what at least 3 days MC, even if u have headache only.

if ur vehicle is in police compound, take out ASAP. 1 day $20.
