Car engine oil can use, except that some car EO's contain friction modifiers to reduce the friction in cars engines. In our bike, like most low CC bikes the engine oil also serves the purpose of lubricating the clutch.

Friction modifiers is good for the engine but bad for the clutch hence car EO's that contain friction modifiers can cause clutch slippage in our bikes.

There is some discussion going on about using Heavy Duty Engine Oils, that are used in trucks for our bikes. It seems they work well on bikes. More info on the discussion here :

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/78993-Product-Engine-Oil-Discussion/page28

Talk about engine oil. I have use industrial grade oil SAE30 and also SAE40.

SAE30 -very smooth gear shift even better than fully synthetic oil

SAE40- so so not much different.

But both oil normally I use only for 500~1000km. Then flush out use back motorbike engine oil.

I use then as for engine flushing oil. Because is cheap. Is quite OK to change more regular.

There a lot of petroleum base oil grade SAE30 out there cost about $5/litre.

From my own testing petroleum base oil is very good performance for the 1st 500km~1000km after that performance drop. Due to the oil deform faster because of the heat. If those also ride slow maybe is OK.

Ic Ic. But Instead of using a cheap 5$ oil for 1k kms, better to use a Fully Synthetic EO for 3k kms isn't it? Thats what I am doing rite now. I used chex, costs 16$, last time and found it superb compared to Motul 5100 which cost 20$. I am planning to change my EO this Saturday to Chex again. @Lucky21 want to join :) ?

All depend on the user. Synthetic oil can last longer due to it more heat resistant.

But petroleum base oil is more smooth from my own testing. But will wear faster due to the heat.

Pulsar bike don't have oil filter. So all the particle will circulate in the engine oil. Changing oil more often meaning drain out the particle more often indirectly cleaner engine.

What I do is use one time normal oil SAE30(1000)km and 2nd time 20w40 engine oil(2000km). Rotate it using it.

But using SAE30 engine is really smooth but have to change the oil more regular that the disadvantage.

Actually, from what I read the smoothness is related to the viscosity of the oil. The lower the viscosity the noisier the engine better heat transfer and low resistance so more power and more FC but less protection at very high RPMs.

Higher viscosity means the opposite. Less noisier engine and smoother gear shift but higher resistance and so lower power and FC but better proctection at very high RPMs.

SAE 30 is same viscosity as 10W30 which I think is too low for the pulsar as the recommended weight is 50. I personally prefer only the 50 weight although I feel its not that revhappy but I am sure that it will protect the engine at continuous rides of 8k RPM :)
