What you say is true in case of people who love bikes, but thats just 10% of all bike riders. Most riders are Pt A to Pt B kind of people who dont even know when to change engine oil and what quantity. Trust me most people are like that. They just want to take their bike to the bike shop at regular intervals and then its upto the bike shops to fix it and ensure a tension free ride.

Its like an Aircon maintainance. Do you know exactly what is in an aircon and what needs to be changed how often? No rite? Thats because we are not into aircons. We expect the service guy to come and inspect it at regular intervals and ensure that it keeps working fine. Same thing with bikes why should it be any different?

I get your point. I disagree that only 10% of riders are passionate about their bikes. I'd say the stats are probably the other way around. I think a bike is a more personal tool than say AC or a computer, but I do get your point.

I suppose my point was that you have a responsibility in your bike's maintenance. Even for an AC you have a small responsibility in how you use it, the AC servicing guy isn't gonna do any miracles if your use of the AC is not taking care of it and helping damages happen to it. But yeah, in theory, you shouldn't need to know anything and the mech should be able to help nonetheless. But like any other hardware that needs servicing, no on will ever take care of it better than its owner..!

For a bike, because it has a more personal and safety link to you, it makes sense to me to be involved in its maintenance and to get to know it better than say your AC or your fridge :)

Today I noticed that after I ride above 80 km/hr the noise in the 5th gear dies down, just like how bro dejaxx said. So the noise that sound like a roar of wind is only audible from speeds 40-80 in the 5th gear. After that the engine noise is so high that it drowns the gear whine.

Being passionate about the bike is one thing and wanting to know the internals and actually knowing the internals are 3 different things. For example most people like to jazz up their bike with accessories for the looks or performance and dont really want to know about how stuff works. Another set of people want to know but dont really have the technical inclination to learn stuff and get bored of it soon. The 3rd category are people like MJ who truely successfully get to know the internals. :) Stuff like AFR etc.

erm do you know the estimated price?

no idea on the exact price...

for a guide,a pair of h&b side panniers w/o racks cost in the range of $800+-$1k+...

chances are the rack need to buy from them then customise...

Good point. I agree. It all boils down to money .I know most people wont be able to afford it and that is reason why bike shops operate that way.So to have a safe ride you need to learn about your bike.

i think the point at the end of the day is that no matter you are 100% into knowing how your bike works or you don't care how the internal works, when you bring you bike down to the mech, you have to tell them what are the symptoms or problems you face when riding

then they can help you diagnose and solve it...

even with the symptoms and problems they will still have to trace and find out where is the fault...

some faults can be easily traced, some needs to change some items to find(cause some items are linked in the set up)...

lets face it,the mechs are not super humans...they also sometimes need to change and try out some of the parts to find the actual fault...

i believe it is good for riders to know some basic maintenance like eo change, spark plug change/checking,idling rpm adjustment...

For people who rely on their rides for work, its a must to have an understanding of your bike.

It reduces downtime when you can detect and rectify problems before it causes a breakdown.

It retards degradation of performance. Parts will wear out later, and you spend less money doing repairs and replacing parts.

It builds up appreciation of the bike. I love the engine. I hate the electricals, but i love the engine. Good torque and good fuel consumption combined.

For normal people riding from point to point, i understand there is little need for you to delve deeply into the bike.

For enthusiasts, its in their passion to know.

For those who rely on the vehicles for their livelihood, its essential.

To each, their own.

i'm not sure whether this is an issue or not...

pls allow me to explain...

when I engage the signal light by pressing the switch left or right, the signal light some times blinks twice n goes off.. this is even before I change lane or do a left or right turn... so i have this habit of checking my signal indicator a few times whether its blinking continuously before i do the change or turn, i find it a lil dangerous cuz when i do that i'm losing concentration of front and the rear... any idea whats wrong or whether this is normal?

chances are you tilted your head cowling slightly to the direction and turn it back straight...

the auto cancelling is very sensitive...once it detects slight movement to the left or right and you tilt a bit back straight,it will take it as you have already made the turn and cancel your signal...

if you want can d/c the sensor...its just behind the number plate bracket...
