@revhappy: According to the mech at UM, my bike has no choke installed. I don't know how is that supposed to work but yea, basically I don't exactly have a choke.

 

Bro, then that could be the problem. Its an issue of cold start. If you use the choke then it would have started. Although some bikes no need to use choke, but few bikes need to use choke on cold days.

Morning Pulsarians ! Please avoid riding in the rain if it's too heavy and you can afford to stop for 15-20min, or ride slow, high beams and carefully !

 

@muzzyfuzzy, the weather thing Speed and others are talking about is mainly about parking the bike in the sun. I suspect issues arise then because it makes the air and the fuel change volume which affect the bike start.

It looks from what you described that the problem doesn't come from the battery, but do me a favor and check it with a multimeter before starting the bike in the morning/after work ok ? Just to make sure !

From what you described about the bike dying off, I would look at the petrol. I know it's silly but check the fuel tank lever, make sure it's not on reserve or something, and maybe it would be worth it to have it opened to check if there's no problem with seals or with the filter / line. Removing the tank will also confirm that the air line is free and not blocked.

 

I am not too sure how to interpret the fact that when the bike rides long distances it has no problem starting the next day - but that is exactly what I meant when I was suggesting a battery recharge problem. I don't know what else can be influenced by the duration of the engine running..

I know it's annoying to say the least but keep investigating and you'll find a solution.

 

Oh, how old is the bike ? Any prior issues ? How often do you service it ? Sometimes the answer comes after trying to wander a bit outside the box

In my previous bike cold start problems starting cropping up occasionally. Its wasn't there before. So I had to use the choke on those occasions. Then I changed my spark plugs and the cold start problems disappeared.

 

So get fresh spark plugs for your bike and I am sure it should start.
