The best place to ride on an expressway is on lane 1 on the left part of it or lane 2 on the right part of it. I have been riding on TPE day in and day out for the last 1 year and never ever had any problems.

 

If I was in this situation, initially I would be on the lane 1 left part or lane 2 right part and then seeing the SUV zipping, I wouldn't care I would continue to ride at my speed of and let the SUV slow down or move to lane 2.

i think that is a very dangerous position to ride...

the rider will "merge into 1" with the lane markings in the eyes of drivers...

and its easier to be in the blind spots of drivers...

best is stay in the middle of the lane(there is a reason why driving centres teach you to ride in the middle)...only move to the markings or side of your lane when you intend to lane split...

maybe let me suggest a mentality that we should take...

Riders/when you are riding: Think as a driver...then you will be able to better predict what and how they will act...

 

Drivers/when you are driving: Think as a rider...then you will be able to better predict what and how they will act...

 

Riders/Drivers: Think and watch out for pedestrians...then MAYBE you can predict when they will pop out of nowhere...

Well, not exactly road hogging as O'Ren mentioned that there were slower cars in the front and the SUV in any case would have had to slow down or move to Lane 2. I would just ride and stay behind the slow cars in front or if they are too slow I would overtake them all from lane 2. Still not caring about the SUV

 

2 more reasons why it is not road hogging:

 

1)If you are travelling at 90 kms/hr you are already at the top speed and anyone who wants to go faster than you is breaking the law and so you are not road hogging.

 

2)If you are riding a 2b bike on the side of a lane, how can you road hog? Unless you have those huge sideboxes

IMHO, the best place to ride on the express way is 2nd lane or the center lane, this b'cuz the left most lane is usually occupied by those heavy and slow moving vehicles and if i'm not wrong these commercial/industrial vehicles have a speed limit of 60km/h.. also all those vehicles merging or leaving the express way eventually join the left most lane.. and for some one traveling on the left most is quite troublesome as the traffic keeps on changing every now and then...

as for the right most last which is theoretically known as the over taking lane or for emergency vehicles is usually used by fast moving vehicles which usually travel faster than 90km/h and i personally keep away from this lane as i find drivers quite impatient while u travel @ 90km/h and they wana move faster...i use it only for a quick over taking or the road is kinda free like on a weekday midnight,

 

so this leads to the center lane or the 2nd most lane from the right... just my 2c..

bro don't worry, eventually things will fall in place.. i had the same anxiety every time i hop on my bike.. still do @ times... so this is quite normal... its ok to get lost..

 

lemme share u a small incident which happened on the 2nd day of getting my bike....

i was supposed to go Clementi for classes but ended up going Bedok reservoir! all because missing the exit to the next xpressway! but as soon as i missed it i realized that i'm going in the wrong direction but didn't know where to take the next exit to fall back to the correct course.. topping this up was it was super peak hour traffic and no confidence to squeeze through traffic i just simply had to follow vehicles clutching in on 1st gear, by the time i reached Bedok my left had was quite numb by clutching... wait its not over yet...

good this i had a smart phone so now i was looking at the route from Bedok to Clementi and hopped on the bike for the next trip.. was on the expressway again.. right direction.. i missed the exit again!! and to make things worst it started to rain.. but I have no idea but i managed to fall on to Clementi road and then headed to my destination

 

just sharing this to make u feel ok and its alright to get lost..

what is the specs of the lights

they should put how much amp the lights draw at 12v

i suspect is somewhere your +ve and -ve touched

even slightly your circuit will short

it shorts only when you turn on your switch right?

 

Yes, only when the switch goes ON.

The specs are confirming what I thought, it's not the lights or how much they draw: they only draw 0.75A each !

 

Later this afternoon, I'll strip off the bike, the tank and all that and will check the wiring thoroughly..

Thanks guys for the comments on where to ride on the expressway.

 

My personal favorite is the out-most right lane, the fastest one.

If there's no traffic however, because I'm not riding above 100-105, i would go the the next lane on the left. Which is what happened yesterday evening.

I had 2 other lanes on my right, and the huge truck should've been on the first lane, not the one next to me.

 

I never ride on the side of lanes as a habit. If I'm lane splitting, which I only do when all other vehicles are SLOWER than me, and usually really slow for the highway like 60km/h and below, then yes, i ride between lanes.

 

I always position myself to the center of my lane, it gives me a good visibility on both my rear mirrors. And it allows me to have options to move to a side if something happens.

 

I find that riding between lanes is disturbing for some drivers. It also invites people to cut into your lane or to drive close to you.

 

In the end, I'm very comfortable in the fastest lane because usually the traffic makes it impossible to be faster than 100-110km/h, and if there is a Shumacher coming at me from behind, I signal to change lane to the right one, and they wait for me to do so as they understand I want to let them pass. On the out-most left lane the pace and traffic flow are much more predictable than the other lanes: the more you go to the right lanes, the more unpredictable it becomes with vehicles changing lane, exiting, entering etc..

The only spot where I can think of Neg and Pos touching is a the switch. But I changed switch the second time, and it happened again - so unless both switches are not wired properly i don't think it comes from the switch box.

Elsewhere, neg and pos are separate wires going complete opposite direction, each on one side of the bike frame..

But Ill check again. I am looking for where pos and neg might touch, outside of the battery yeah ?

 

Insulation: all connectors are covered with plastic and I insulated the connectors with fuse tape. I'll check other places where I have wires connected to the fuse box and the battery but they seem fine at first look.

 

the physical wire may be going in different direction but when u draw the circuit on a paper, if the positive and negative wire touches at some point without any load(component) in between them, then that's called a short..

 

yeh look out wires out side the battery or from where you have tapped the power from.. trace them (follow them literally) to find whether they are meeting at some point before going in to a component,

 

next is see whether any component has been attached in a reverse manner, meaning to say that +ve with -ve and -ve with +ve rather than +ve of the wire to the +ve of the component and the -ve of the wire with the -ve side of the component... this logic is just like you reverse the polarity of a battery in a battery operated equipment and it would not work.

 

next best way to tell whether a circuit is short is.. the moment u switch on the the power if any component turns really hot in a very very short period of time (say 5-15 sec) then its definitely shortened n switch off immediately.. do touch them momentarily at your own risk... but if it takes some time to get heat up then it shouldn't be an issue as it is a normal heating up of a circuit...

I feel kind of disappointed at the news above about corruption in msia.

Being a malaysian myself. Sighhh. When will MAJORITY of the malays start to wake up and realise they are actually leeching the country dry? My dad is an accountant and he says if a person of the malay race chose not to pay taxes, nothing will happen to him. No fines no charges, nothing!

Yet. They get all the subsidies, all the priority at important places. Eg, slots for malaysia university. Few of my chinese friends with excellent results can't even get into uni as they see people of the malay race getting into university with less than average results. Sighhh.

 

Everything above applies just to majority. I know there are still gd ppl out there.

 

If u guys really think malaysia belongs to you malays. I would like to see what happens when all the other races leaves the country.

however, theres alot of cases happened locally here, lots of folks who are born singaporean9regardless of race) and had good grades have the rights to get better jobs. but they were replaced with some foreigners with low grades by some companies due to their own interests and were paid even better than d locals. logically its not fair. comment closed for now.

Frm my view is they are at wrong when they just dashing trough without proper clearance and another thing it's a trap by the other side and in a way to teach this travelers a lesson that not to come to their country so late at night....
