Did it happen one off or it happens everytime? Sounds scary to me. Maybe time for an Overhaul. Make sure EO level is above minimum.

Maybe you should go early for your servicing and not wait any longer ?

Did you change anything recently ? Installed anything new or changed anything in your riding style?

Your chain is properly oiled ?

What's the mileage of the bike?

Feedback on Protec Coils and Air Filter :

I changed both coils and as Alvin told us, this has greatly improved the lower speed torque and smoothness of the ride. The downside when you change both coils is that you loose a bit of comfort at higher speeds.

I used to reach 100-103km/h at 7 RPM, now it's a bit lower, 97km/h. Above 100 I really feel a difference in the engine's noise and stress. It's still going above but more reluctantly.

I chose this set up because I doubt I'll be riding above 90 very often on my trip. Except for the MY highway and maybe a few roads in Thailand. But even then, I intend to go max to 100km/h. Being loaded as the bike will be, with 2 people and about 12-14kg in the saddle bags, I am choosing not to go too fast.

The ride at 60-80 and below even, is much better, smoother pick up and faster.

But for SG use, I think it's best to only change one coil, especially if you ride alone and light, and do a lot of expressway.

I can't really tell what the new air filter is bringing to the table, so I suppose I'll see next servicing how it worked out.

yes u r right about the coils..

i'm not sure of my speed cuz my speedo has been down for a while.. but RPM wise, on xpressway.. usually 7-7.5 where the engine is 'still' smooth.. but its recently that i'm very reluctant to go over 6 or 6.5 cuz it screams alot than before.. so yeh need to drop by n check at UM.. in the mean time will be changing to SINNOB..

How old is the EO and which EO have you been using? If you are using 40 weight then you can try changing to 50 weight EO as it is thicker and should be smoother but it will feel heavier and less revhappy :)

Bro I did post regarding the rpm after changing to protec coils..mine was @ 6-7k when cruising @ 90kph..but now its about 7-8k @90kph...now i'm slowly troubleshooting the problem....already change new spark plugs (platinum) , done servicing...not much improvement...

Next I intend to swap back to stock coils for the left side....will update again if there's any improvement..

Yeah, definitely an impact on the RPM with 2 new protec coils.

I think someone here got Protec on one side, and a Yamaha on the other side, what's the verdict ?

It definitely has nothing to do with the spark plugs, I didn't change mine. And it's not the Engine oil neither, I'm riding on a brand new oil.

But me, I wasn't surprised or worried: Alvin informed me, so i was expecting it, and like I said, let's not forget it brings a positive and benefit in terms of pick up and torque. I definitely saw a clear improvement in that area, specially with pillionette on board.

So dejaxx, maybe that could be just it, try to go back to one stock one protec and see how it goes. Because your bike has more mileage than mine (almost 4 times more), it's possible than the impact is more obvious on the RPM.

MFK, let us know if you saw any difference ok ? Oh, and why do you pick the left coil to change back to stock instead of the right ? I know that the left spark plug is more used is that linked ? Can someone explain a bit more, I don;t really understand why both sides of spark plug and coil would be different, are they used for different purpuses ?

I did try riding with right side coil disconnected like Alvin suggested....no improvement on RPM...but u can't ride with left side disconnected...

thats why i will swap left with stock first to see whether the protec coil is faulty or not..

it was all good after changing to Protec, so not complaining about it...

the prob that I mentioned is something new... so not sure the cause.. but lets see..
