Hello people.

I have owned my pulsar since 2 weeks ago, the mileage when boughtwas 29000km.

Heres the pros and cons, and something is changing my mind about the quality of the bike.

i overheard the prevous rider used it for dispatch :(

BAD...

After the problem with the knocking conrod. i realise another problem, just now i went off for 20 km morning ride and when parked, i just realise theres a fresh leak below my engine , leaking around 2 tablespoons on the floor. and when i check the engine oil when this late afternoon . it has drop to 1/3 of the indicated level. when riding i dont see any weird exhaust fumes whiting or visable and no drop in engine power.

the way i ride is that i always cruise at 6k rpm bringing me to speed around 80-88km like that as im a very patient drive with no ramming or whatsoever. and dont usually engine brake much. and always riding at night 90% of the time with engine not so hot (:

GOOD....

BUT one thing i realise good about this bike is that. i top full tank days ago. i have clock in at 300km and the meter is still FULL BAR yes FULL FULL FULL FULL FULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL . its too good to be true.

my parents and brothers we always stick to the mech. he said to overhaul and it will cost $600.

i dont mind about the money but i overhear here the overhaul can cost up to $1.4 k? is the mech wrong or it is a different type of overhaul.

Posted

Price of overhaul depends on the parts which are bad. Some costed 800 mine costed 1000 some more. It depends. Just need to open up engine and let them have a look.

Change engine oil when needed.

Lubricate chain 1 week once.

Warm up bike for about 1 minute before riding every morning.

If engine oil used is mineral; change every 3000km.

If engine oil used is fully synthetic(mobil); change every 5000km.

Pump tires whenever necessary.

Yeah, the best part about pulsar is no matter what condition, it still gives the best FC :)

Like Speedaddict said overhaul cost depends on the parts being replaced. Also depends on the location of the parts. If it is top overhaul, then it can be done without downing the engine, they just remove the tank open the engine head and then fix stuff. Most of the abuse is normally taken by the components in the top, including piston, cylinder, cam chain, valves, tensioner etc. The cost of this top overhaul, worst case is ~500$ I guess, i.e. if you need to change the block piston everything.

The lower part of the engine is mainly the gear box, bearings etc. This type of overhaul need to totally dismantle the engine and can cost about 1k+ in the worst case. Both Speedaddict and Gaban had issues with the gear box/bearings and hence their overhaul cost was that high.

If your bike's mileage is genuinely 29k, it shouldn't really need to do a major overhaul, unless the previous owner really whack the bike like crazy with bad EO.

Good luck mate!

guys just got my pulsar! anyone can help me out? what are the basics to know when to service? bike noob here

1st and foremost keep an eye on the eo level and the change eo every 2k kms. That keeps out 80% of the issues and headaches. The rest is just general servicing, you will learn it with time and welcome to the club :)

important to get the fluids to be serviceable:

good quality engine oil with the correct weight and viscosity for ur style or riding

make sure the brake fluid aint sludgy or spongy

fork oil replacement for greater damping(like sports handling) or a more plush ride

cant do much with the stock rear suspension unless u go for better options like showa or the like if u want it to be more firm

no coolant involved. its either air cooled or oil cooled.

other stuff comes naturally like wear and tear.

About the fuel gauge, do keep in mind that it's not accurate. It will drop to half suddenly but that will not mean it will give you double mileage from that point. At your speed, you should be able to get at least 650km on a full tank if riding light and alone.

As for the leak, are you sure it was EO ? Where was it leaking from ? Locate it, as it could be from your chain lubricant. If it's indeed EO, have it checked asap. Could be just a simple rubber ring that needs replacement or the gasket, no biggie and normal wear and tear at that mileage.

Today I was riding behind another 2B bike, one of those small sportsbike, was a bit captivated by the rider as he was riding with tiny mirrors and always checked his blind spot. Anyway, he stops in front of me, and I notice something like capuccino cream and oil leaking under the bike pretty heavily. Immediately gestured to him so he can stop and check it. We were about to enter PIE, can't imagine with that stuff all over his rear tyre what could have happened.. Keep an eye on fellow riders on the road please, let;s help each other stay safe.

And always remember to do a FULL check of your bike before EVERY ride. Especially if second hand and you just got it. You never know.. you might notice a leak or faulty lights or something..

@Strawberrydonut, welcome to our group ! :cheer:

Congrats on your buy, you just got yourself the best 2B bike out here, anyone telling you different doesn't own one :p

My advice is take it for servicing to UM and chat with the mechanic, ask all your questions, observe and bit by bit you will learn more.

If you have any questions, do ask us. Sometimes we don't answer right away but there will always be someone to reply.

There are no stupid questions so ask ahead, but if you could do a search with keywords in the thread first, that can bring up lots of answers too.

Finally, join us next Wednesday evening for our weekly meetup around drinks and food, and we'll share more things with you about the bike and you can ask everything you want :thumb:

Enjoy the bike, gear up for each ride and ride slow :)

Yesterday, got my vehicle inspection done at Vicom, Changi. Previous times, I used to always do it at Vicom Kaki Bukit.

Vicom, Changi is best ever inspection experience I had. The guy just sat on the bike and put the long wire, into exhaust pipe and then checked the tyre grip/braking over the rollers and thats it! He didn't check the lights, horn or anything else. I went really early at 8AM and the whole thing finished in less than 5 mins. :thumb:

This place is highly recommended, especially if you have any suspect stuff on your bike :cheeky:
