Guys was at UM in the evening when the new 200NS just arrived.

The bike is bigger, alot like the Honda 250CC tiger size, sound of the bike idling is like a 250cc bike haha.

Awaiting for the VERY FIRST owner to test the vehicle haha!

Hi guys. I'm a newb to all things bike-related. Trying to take everything with an open mind. Since you guys believe in Pulsar, I'd like to know your side of the story. I believe the Bajaj Pulsar has this label of it being a bike with expensive parts. Can someone explain to me why there is this label and if it is actually not true?

Along with lots of other people around the world, I was captivated by the beauty of the upcoming Pulsar 200 NS. Very interested in the bike.

Just to tell you guys a bit more about myself. I'm still in the process of getting a license so I have quite a bit of time to think of what my first bike will be. My dad has given me terms and conditions that I should abide to before I embark on my riding journey. One of it is no 2nd hand bikes. Haha. Initially I was thinking the FZ16 would be a good bike but one just can't ignore the 200 NS.

Please do share with me the pros and cons (as unbiased as possible) of owning a Pulsar... Thanks guys.

Price so far quoted from UM is 7--8k.

Base on remarks by both Ah Teck and Ah Jiak this bike is not easy to service.

Awaiting for the VERY FIRST owner to test the vehicle haha!

7-8k machine price or OTR without insurance?

Even if 7-8k otr...it will b more ex than wat the initial estimates were. Cos i believe fz16 costs ard 7k otr...n 200ns shouldnt b more than that. I was expecting 6+k

1.) check the teeth of the front/rear sprockets to see if there is uneven wearing

2.) check if the chain is wearing evenly (eg. even slacking thru-out the whole chain)

3.) take a torch light to check between the teeth of the sprockets (the grooves) to see if there is any cracking

whats ur mileage on this set of sinoob?

Firstly everyone here knows I change bikes faster than some of you change underwear.

I have owned and loved many a bike. 35 now to be exact. Out of which 4 were Bajaj.

The ownership of any bike comes with some responsibility. One of the most important being, maintenance.

Now this goes without saying, you love your bike, it will love you back. Any brand any model is the same. Some might claim other wise and say they can trash their bikes without servicing and it still rides fine (God help those who buy their bikes later).

Now with the prices of parts, I must say that prices for most parts for most brands are overpriced if you compare it with neighbouring countries. This is likely due to higher operating cost and also the need to have a higher margin to remain sustainable and a viable business. So if you say a $0.50 part in India costs $5.00 here, then you have every opportunity to buy it from elsewhere where it is cheaper.

But the bottom line is of course that you mount the seat, grab the handlebars and take a short spin on it. If you think the bike is for you, then buy it. Be it a Bajaj, Yamaha, Honda or Kymco. It will likely not be your last bike as once you get the hang of riding, you will want to explore other models.

Bajaj is mainly handled by UM but there are some other bike shops which will be able to handle non-critical maintenance. So don't fret, get on the bike, and try it.

since you got from WY .. wise you go back there to check wif them .. WY are Sinnob 'sole distributor' so they should check ur case thoroughly and rectify ur issues ....

chain got sound normally from too loose , too tight, alignment, rear sproc bolts not tighten enough, front sproc wear, rear sproc wobbling, broken teeth, insufficient lubing, broken or wear damper couplings ...

hope this helps ... :)

Are you 100% sure it is chain/sprocket issue? Is yes then dont cry chain sprockets are cheap. My biggest worry would be if the sound is gear or bearing sound. Put the bike on main stand and change gears and see if the sound comes on all gears, if it happens on only 1 gear(usually the top) then confirm gear issue.

The reason I think it could be gear issue is because you mentioned it was used by dispatch rider before and needed overhaul.

Sorry I am scaring you, but I hope its only chain/sprocket issue.

Hi mobilenerd, I really appreciate your reply. With those things said, would you actually advice me for or against getting a 200 NS as my first bike? Bearing in mind that I'm still a student working part time to earn a little more so that I'm able to ride in the future when I get my 2B license. Would you expect the 200NS to be hard on a working student's wallet or would it be the same with other bike models be it new or old?

Thanks guys for the friendly advice and tips that have been shared so far. :)

It is always relative, lah bro. When you say parts expensive, then compared to what? If you compare with kups like wave and spark, prolly yes may be expensive. But if you compare similar bikes like FZ16 and Phantom then not expensive.

But the question of parts expensive or not is secondary. 1st question should be how often need to change parts. That decides your TCO or total cost of ownership and Bajaj like any other bikes if taken care well, your TCO should be as cheap as a Kup. So just buy the bike and enjoy :)

Its all back to ur wallet bro ... since your parent wants you to get a first hand bike but looking at u still a student, ... tink hard wats is the purpose of you to hv a bike in the first place ...

there r no such thing as a PERFECT BIKE .. all bike has pros n cons and even luck ... if ur budget is ok for a new bike n long run maintanance .. than go for it .. does not matter wat bike u aim for ... once u got ur bike do remember and always remember .. YOU ARE A STUDENT!!

To have ur budget keep maintain .. DONT MESS WITH THE BIKE !! .. keep it as STOCK as much as possible !! ...

Now on Biase side ... 200NS is a new bike so in reality we dont know how our mech can handled the bike well, but on the brighter side considering the time frame delayed to ship the bike here, i believe they UM mechs will do their best to learn from now till sep/oct to familiar with the bike, they have to keep updating from India bajaj Forum on what the reality they will be facing ... there views has statrted coming in there!

Parts price yes if from any local agents does not matter what bikes , the price here will be slightly expensive ... but that does not mean there is no other alternatives ...

.. hmmmm tired lah to write long long ... have a cup of teh tarik and we can talk long long ok .... hehehehehe

yuh, becase as stated, it sounds when theres tension on the upper side of the chain, it will be noisy, it will sound everytime its PULLING. like moving off, expressway cruising, but when let go throttle, it will be butter smoooooooooooooooooooth :D
