re-sprayed box no problem. other than the hinge part the paint crack a bit due to spraying too thick i think.

i'm thinking of trying glossy black next.. lol.. wait till i have time again..

have a read at this webby Wiki Syn Oil

heres another link to better explain single and multi-grade oils single/multi grade oils

the answer u are looking for is here:

The temperature range the oil is exposed to in most vehicles can be wide, ranging from cold ambient temperatures in the winter before the vehicle is started up to hot operating temperatures when the vehicle is fully warmed up in hot summer weather. A specific oil will have high viscosity when cold and a low viscosity at the engine's operating temperature. The difference in viscosities for any single-grade oil is too large between the extremes of temperature. To bring the difference in viscosities closer together, special polymer additives called viscosity index improvers, or VIIs are added to the oil. These additives make the oil a multi-grade motor oil. The idea is to cause the multi-grade oil to have the viscosity of the base number when cold and the viscosity of second number when hot. This enables one type of oil to be generally used all year, and when multi-grades were initially developed, they were frequently described as all-season oil. The viscosity of a multi-grade oil still varies logarithmically with temperature, but the slope representing the change is lessened. This slope representing the change with temperature depends on the nature and amount of the additives to the base oil.

The SAE designation for multi-grade oils includes two grade numbers; for example, 10W-30 designates a common multi-grade oil. Historically, the first number associated with the W (again 'W' is for Winter, not Weight) is not rated at any single temperature. The "10W" means that this oil can be pumped by your engine as well as a single-grade SAE 10 oil can be pumped. "5W" can be pumped at a lower temperature than "10W" and "0W" can be pumped at a lower temperature than "5W". The second number, 30, means that the viscosity of this multi-grade oil at 100°C (212°F) operating temperature corresponds to the viscosity of a single-grade 30 oil at same temperature. The governing SAE standard is called SAE J300. This "classic" method of defining the "W" rating has since been replaced with a more technical test where a "cold crank simulator" is used at increasingly lowered temps. A 0W oil is tested at −35 °C (−31 °F), a 5W at −30 °C (−22 °F) and a 10W is tested at −25 °C (−13 °F). The real-world ability of an oil to crank in the cold is diminished soon after put into service. The motor oil grade and viscosity to be used in a given vehicle is specified by the manufacturer of the vehicle (although some modern European cars now make no viscosity requirement), but can vary from country to country when climatic or mpg constraints come into play.

hope this helps

I went to UM to rectify my engine oil leak and the mechanic recommend me to change engine oil b4 2000km, around 1800km. Actually think about it, 200km different also not too much. Since I am using the $10 one. :cheeky:

ok just changed my engine oil today to 15w50 fully syn. i was trying out the 10w40 maxima fully synthetic previously.

i must say its better to use xxW50. xxW40 is too thin.. the oil is not sticky at all.. i don't think it will be as effective as xxW50. will update again on the performance of 15w50.

sorta delayed my engine oil change this time, changed at about 3.5k km. no clumps or anything. maybe its better becos its fully syn.

bro.. dangerous leh.. if engine oil level drop.. block could risk overheating and pistons jam.

if not.. sludge could form inside due to overdeposit of by-product. also harmful to the engine.

or, condensation could accumulate and harm engine as well.

so many reasons to change engine oil regularly. a $10 change of oil can potentially save you a $400+ overhaul.

speaking of oil changes n such.

anyone any idea of the exact way for checking oil for our pulsar, namely the UG2? Cuz i've read on some indian forum that due to some retarded reason, it's meant to be checked with the dipstick screwed in, e.g. take out, wipe clean, screw in lightly, then unscrew n check.

then the mechs will say that it's meant to be checked by just unscrewing, wiping then dipping in WITHOUT screwing it in.

I'm confused, cuz my freshly changes EO, with approx 100km travel on it, is just barely at the bottom part of the dipstick

===XXXXX=====

assume that's the pic of the dipstick, the left side goes into the tank, it'll be only at the 2nd =.

However when i screw in n check, it comes up nicely to the top of the XXXX.

so, which is it? Anyone any idea?

can't be that the EO 100km already disappear until almost gone.

btw, EO using Maxima Extra 15W50 full synth. try try. before that was using Maxima Synblend 20W50 semi-synth. also the same oil problems.

and yes, i always check when engine cold in the morning on level ground with bike off mainstand, supported by my legs. even try using bubble level to check ground is level n tank as level as possible. of course got a little operator error for sure, but cannot be that much diff on the dipstick.

anyone any idea? should i top up? or just f*** it? heard overfilling also bad cuz clutch will be swimming in the oil, and engine not enough air space to breathe.

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.
