Question:

And by the way, whats this thread all about?

Answer:

if we were to purchase a gas station's particular brand of lubricant, are they obliged to change it for us or is there a service charge? do they even offer such a service ?

Side note: I plan to use shell advance 4t and most bike shops carry other brands. i don't intend to contain and carry 350ml of used engine oil to a bikeshop for disposal if i were to do it myself.

maybe try asking those that have service centres within the stations like the one along Tampines or Telok Blangah?

Enfant, i think you have mistaken the meaning of a Poll.

Your thread almost seems senseless.

I also dont understand your point, as with MiCmAsTa.

Anyway as a perspective, when someone buys a pair of pants, is the sales person expected to help him put it on? Or perhaps when someone orders sushi, the waiter is expected to feed him?

Even for cars, getting engine oil from a gas station does not include labor in changing. Unless, there is a package service provided by the usually independant car workshop at the station. In that case it would be a package for changing engine oil using a particular brand, not a package for getting free service when buying engine oil.

The solution to your "problem" is simple. Buy the oil that you want and bring it to your bike workshop to use. Buy the oil filter and spark plugs from the bike workshop then pass them the oil to use. Most good shops wont mind and wont charge for labor.

please reread my post and quote me on the sentence whereby i demanded free service for engine oil change. i was asking a question, i got my answer, apparently not every one is sure but i do get some worthless opinions from small minded individuals. cheers

enfant, if I recall correctly, no they dun.

From what I observe, the workshops you see at those petrol stations are operated somewhat independently from the petrol station itself.

Take Tuas SPC. From the signboards I read and to my understanding, the petrol station sell the EO but do not do oil change. Not even an oil change service (they hire petrol attendants, not mechanics). The workshop there, on the other hand, offers a package to change oil for you if you purchase EO from the workshop itself.

So unless you buy EO from the workshop itself and they do service motorbikes, I seriously doubt the petrol kiosk does oil changes for you, even if you offer to pay for it.

But there are a few petrol kiosk that have workshops that service motorbikes.

I know at Old Woodlands road and the Esso at Lavender Street does.So you may have better luck with them.

Workshop & gas station have very different legal requirement, although they can be in same location, or even have same operator (since gas stations are franchise). Only places that have registered as vehicle workshop with BCA, FSB, LTA, MOM, & NEA can change engine oil (EO).

All workshops must complie to NEA requlations concerning used EO oil disposal, but this is not applicable to petrol station. Some workshops were fined by NEA not disposed used EO properly.

As such, any1 can sell EO. You can buy EO at Carrefour, but you can not change EO there. Likewise, petrol stations can sell EO, but can not change EO unless it is done within a registered workshop. The furthest that you can do with your EO within petrol station is just to top up EO, and not dipping on the floor.

So if you want to change EO at HDB carpark or void deck, make sure you are willing to donate money to town council or HDB or ENV first.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. - John 3:16
