A wise man said (me) "experience teaches fools" - Last time I had an accident was 1970 when a car shot a red light and I hit the side while trying to stop the bike. As it not only hurt it cost a lot of money so I decided not to do it again :) So that's 45+ years of safe riding in different part of the world since.

Dropped bikes 3 times.

First time, driving to a workshop, super oily, about to stop bike skipped a little and fell. Not hurt because bike speed is very low, less than 10 km/h.

Second time, in car park after heavy downpour, super slippery, skidded a little but didn't fall nor drop bike, managed to stabilized the bike.

Third time, in front of Raffles Hotel, drive way is made if pebbles, while driving off bike the bike sank into the pebbles, the more I twisted the throttle, the more the bike sank, hotel for attendant came over and helped me pull my bike out of pebbles.

Had ridden bike everyday for 13 years, no traffic accident so far, touch wood.

I think this is a good thread as it advise bikers to avoid certain road surfaces and conditions and to know certain hazards.

People ask me, "Why ride bike?" I ask them back :"Why drive car?"

Last Saturday I dropped my bike 3 times in a row on a slope slanting to the right.

Experience gained not to stop and try to balance on a slope slanting either way now..

It really pains my heart and thankfully, the bike is equipped with the engine crash bar on both side so only the slider is damaged.. even exhaust protector is scratched...First dropped the bike to right.. I knew I am going to drop as can't stepped on the slope right.

Managed to lift up bike but forgot to put side stand and there you go dropped on left...Then also in my mind so embarrassed... then finally try to lift up no strength to hold and it drop on the other side. some nice indian fellow really ran towards me then to help me lift my bike. this time I remember to put out side stand on left and stable. apparently the nice guy is a rider too and tell me not to stop at slope or slanting. I thanked him profusely..

Parked on slope before too. Previous bike only got side stand. Parked and walked away but somehow felt something was not right. Turned to look at bike a few times and saw the bike dropping slowly. Managed to run and grab the bike and stopped it from falling.

Am sure many have done that. Have seen and indicated to some while on the roads too. Some were just puzzled what was said to them till they leaned to turn then they know.

Rode a TA150 for total 4 years. total falls is 2. both instances skid on road: 1 was during a turn on a white arrow, and second was oil patch. extremely sudden no-warning "eh why am I on the floor" kind of fall on both counts.

Lesson learnt: ditch the useless IRC tyres!!! no falls since. 3 years ago i bought my current ninja300 which came with IRC tyres stock; on collection day i pushed the bike out of dealer into my regular workshop next door and demanded a change of tyres :p

after TA150, got straight on a CBR600RR, no 2a.

First fall (within months of ownership): i parked on a pavement and wanted to get back on road. it was a raised kerb. doing it like i was still on my TA150 (a light lowrider and extremely different from high and heavy class 2 sports), i got on and used feet to pedal-push bike forward gently till front tyre off the kerb onto road below. then gently continued pushing forward with feet.

except when my feet got off kerb, with front tyre on road and rear tyre on raised kerb, the bike was too high for my feet to reach ground, and so i was pedaling empty air, no support and slow motion fall onto my side :giddy:

Lesson 1: a class 2 sportsbike is too high to use feet to pedal-push off a raised a kerb.

Lesson 2: when going on/off a raised kerb, make engine on, engage first gear clutch-in and then use feet. in the event you think you going to fall, THROTTLE!!! this would have saved me.

second fall, parked my CBR and without getting off, used left foot to put side stand down. normal. except my left pant leg somehow got caught on the left foot pedal and wouldn get free, and while trying to shake the foot off i was losing balance and bike started gradually leaning to the left. with no left foot to support, the bike continued into a dwonward fall on the floor with me still on it.

Lesson learnt: not sure really. no cure for stupidity maybe.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

i know the public HDB carpark opposite Queensway Shopping Center has such bike lots. the carpark is a steep slope up at entrance, and thats where they painted bike lots. except that instead of making the bike lots parallel to the slope, they are all perpendicular. it is extremely stupid for the designer to have painted the lots that way and i strongly discourage any biker from attempting to use such lots. slope parking with bike strictly parallel to slope only.

Just yesterday at Toa Payoh North car park 203, while meeting someone, I saw uncle motorcyclist doing something funny at the gantry of exit. He is either trying to get out illegally by the side but failed or somehow. He then try to U-turn but there is a hump before the gantry and he fell...He tried lifting up but fail and I ran over to help him out.. Luckily is a smaller 2b bike if not I don't know whether got strength to help him. Gosh he was wearing shorts, and I guess that fall must be painful....

The mscp opposite Tampines 1 always got J plated motorcycle squeeze from the side. Either that or quickly squeeze beside cars or SG plated bikes that are exiting. Lost count how many times I seen it.

I've fallen twice on my old bikes. They say it's always twice and then you learn :)

I agree. I've dropped or fallen off my previous bikes but I haven't dropped or fallen off my current bike yet. I've made an oath to the seller of my current bike that I won't crash this one.

I've been riding for more than 10 years now.
