whoops

eh..mesh in centre?

possible to post pic when u get a new one or not huh

sounds interesting.....

currently undertaking project to add some mesh/grille to my bike

anyone can confirm whether material close to plastic type will melt if i add to the front of the radiator grille?

cause i notice the grille is actually ard 0.5CM away frm the radiator itself....so wondering if there's chance that not as much heat would spread to the front grille frm the radiator....

What's the different between distilled water and coolant? Where can i get distilled water and how much does it cost? Puting distilled water meaning dun need to do a coolant flush?

Btw is changing the black brakelight legal in Singapore?

:help:

I would flush the entire coolant system then fill with distilled water only.

Black brakelights? Even with red/clear brakelights, the guilty party can and will tell you he didn't see you brake. What if you installed dark brakelights, he has a valid case to counter you...

Where have you heard this from? And what does a "coolant" really do?

Had an argument with a TP before. This is what he said..."Technically speaking, anything that is dissimilar to the original, through addition, removal or replacement is against the law and will face appropriate legal action. In short, even if your tire size is different from those that comes originally with the vehicle, you can be charged accordingly."

Still keen to proceed?

water cannot

distill water can

becoz its has no corrosion properties

and water cooling properties is double of coolant

some extract frm the site

http://www.angelfire.com/ia2/vmax/coolantnotes.htm

The main purpose of mixing glycol with water is to lower the freezing point and to raise the boiling point of the coolant mixture. Glycol also improves

the anti-corrosion properties of the water. But glycol affects the heat transfer characteristics adversely, to a small extent.

and finally the website proceed to conclude

The general trends seem to be:

1. Use good quality ethylene glycol coolant, but study the "orange stuff" controversy carefully.

2. Complete flushing and replacing coolant every year is mandatory to avoid chemical changes toward the acidic range.

3. Use a 50-50 mixture of coolant and distilled, then soft water but never tap water.

4. Red Line Water Wetter has no significant function when used with a 50-50 mixture.

5. Installation of a manual fan switch gives the best control of the fan in hot weather.

THE FINAL WORD IS 50-50 RATIO AND CHANGE EVERY YEAR.

i personally find it incredible that manufacturers would geh zhua and add coolant to water when actually pure water itself would satisfy the purpose

:cheeky:

anyway i dint solely rely on the website...i learnt that the stuff in radiator should be mixture of coolant and distilled water while im a small time mech in army...juz went to looked for websites over search engine to double confirm

i tink i need some real life examples to convince myself

It's nice to know that you know what you're talking about. Like your link suggests, there are hot debates over the Internet overcoolant mix or water.

My views in this (As stated in your comments)...

(1) Glycol is used to lower freezing point. We are living in the Tropics, what freezing are we talking about?

(2) Distilled water has adequate anti corrosive properties by my standards. Look at our "well-informed" local mechanics. What do they use when filling up with coolant? Bloody tap water.... It's no wonder why coolant is being used now. It's used so with the overview that idiot mechanics would fill our radiator with tap water/coolant mix so that it negates or reduces corrosion. I could remember the sniggering of my mechanic very clearly when he couldn't believe his eyes that my bike was "drinking mineral water"(In his words). If he knew any better, I am having the last laugh as he insists his & his customers' bikes drink OK with tap water.

(3) Distilled water only system runs cooler (Temp taken before radiator thermostat) than a coolant mix.

(4) Another personal point of view, how would you feel if bikes bought in the tropics came with "Only water" in your coolant system when bikes from other parts of the world(Esp those with 4 seasons) came with coolant mix (Esp necessary if the country has winter as it prevents freezure)? There would be an uproar!!

Lastly, well if you wanted an example, I'm one who uses only distilled water (ALMOST!) in my system. I'm using it with Red Line Water Wetter though....
